This is great. CCP had too much going on (in relation to number of employees), and the management took the right decision. Wow.
Too bad about people losing their jobs, but hey, that is business as usual these days (unfortunately the employees suffer due to bad management decisions way too often).
Now, blow our minds with awesome new features for Dust 514 at fanfest, and all the bad decisionmaking for the game might be quickly forgotten :) |

Besides there's about 100 decent mmorpgs, some of which are over 17 years old. It begs the question, what exactly did they expect when the whole fantasy mmorpg thing is a totally worn out and done clich+¬.
Just look at destiny, there will be nothing amazing or new there, its just going to be a pve heroes wet dream with some re hashed cliche crap BUT with really good graphics.

CCP Falcon wrote:Hey guys, As some of you may already be aware from the press release on www.ccpgames.com, the World of Darkness MMO project has been cancelled, effective today, April 14, 2014. While this is a sad moment for those affected, this puts us in a far stronger position to devote more time and resources to the EVE Universe and our projects therein. You can read the full press release on our website here, and if you want to discuss it, please do so in this thread to keep discussion focused. We'll also be answering questions here as and when we can, so please feel free to ask if you have any queries. Thanks.

It's sad and perhaps hopeful news. WoD is a beautiful IP, i hope it gets its opportunity to be a living world someday.
This being DUST it's hard not to look at developments in a military light. Once again, our commanders have put themselves in a position where they've had to leave soldiers and equipment in the field. Classic overextension, same old tragedy.
I support SP rollover.

Remember that CCP bought White Wolf entirely.

I don't think this is actually true. Last I read White Wolf still operates as its own company, they just report to CCP every so often with CCP taking a portion of the profits. I would expect P&P material to keep coming. As far as a video game based on White Wolf IP, that depends if CCP wants to sell the rights to that or sit on it until they've developed the broader New Eden experience and grown their company more. They could even simply get another dev shop to build such a game in exchange for a portion of the profits, while retaining ownership of the IP.

Welcome, you must be new to Earth. You'll find that all corporations are 100% committed to all of their projects right up until the moment they are completed or cancelled. A whiff of uncertainty can cause a project that could potentially fail to actually fail due to employees jumping ship prematurely. In terms of their internal management a corporation owes you no information unless you're a shareholder, and even then your access to information may be limited. |

Indeed. I suspect that regardless of his justifications, Falcon knows he could and should have handled that situation in a more considerate and deft manner than he did, and he'll have to live with the fallout.
The flip side is that trust will have to be earned back. Fanfest is already a touchy time of the year, what with the upcoming event spurring reflection on what was promised at the last Fanfest...

Yes, I know plenty first hand and second hand about firing and being fired. The way CCP handled it was wholly unprofessional.
You are advocating that I feel more sorry for Falcon for having the "tough job" of damage control than the fired employees who were attacked for "starting rumors" when they were right on the money. Sorry but no way.

Please explain how ccp was being unprofessional. I agree the whole WoD situation was mishandled but its not their fault some idiotouted them on reddit.. But they run a business and the final dession was most likely only made days ago. And u dont tell your staff these types as things as it kills moral and might even cause employees ti cut and run when a project could be saved.
And its clear you just dont understand ccp's position. Hope u never have to face the stress of worrying about your job because of roSome idot came up with rubish.
Ccp is going the extra mile by keeping some staff on and helping others find new work in the industry. Other companys have been far harsher.

Good riddance.
Their development was a perfect example of how not to run a production studio. A classic example of CCP's inefficacy and wastefulness. And the fact the company is posting losses will spur them to cut even more of their ****** excuses for projects. See CCP's financials that where posted a earlier this year.
You might tell me to feel sorry for the staff that lost their jobs, but these staff where enablers to their poor management and direction the project had taken and thus rather then go out fighting just came in every day did the minimum and collected a paycheck.
Dust is the same way. None of the staff goes above and beyond, they are active to the most minimum amount in the community. And they ran a total of 1 or 2 Dev observed games with the playerbase in the entire history of dust.
I could go on but why bother, They are snobs who will give the most PC if excuses for their lackluster performance, some sort of Bs about turning it around or how things will be better in the future. Fanboi's would would never give up on dust no matter what the results where will come to its defense and hopefully Dust will be disbanded after a year or 2 more of floundering around accomplishing little of tangible validity. You who are so fierce with words, you with poison coming out of your mouth. You are a scum. You play a game, FOR FREE, and insult the hand that gives you the toy. What a stupid little kid you are. I hope someday, when you give something to someone, that person will just spit at you and destroy what you gave. Then you will remember this post and how what you throw in the air, comes right back at your face.
F2P ain't free their chief, I would rather pay cash upfront then support the free to wait system f2p has become thanks to companies like CCP. Companies driven by their marketing departments who are so greedy that they need systems with no limit on the amount of money they can try to suck from their consumers while providing a substandard experience for all. I hope someday if i chose to support poor leadership who clearly did not have consumer interest in mind with providing best value for the customer that I too was fired and left out in the cold, a deserving fate for turning a blind eye to ethical conscience and a deserving fate for supporting being greedy to the maximum. Funny part is these devs for all there support of such a terrible system run by terrible leaders influence by a no nothing marketing department, receive nothing but scraps from the table and yet are more then willing to grovel to their own bitter demise for a company that will throw them out at a moments notice, regardless of merit or ethic.
If my words wound you so, it is because they have hit their mark and you spend your days toiling and struggling under similar leadership at your own work place or have in the past, for that I feel nothing but pity for you, however your pain is deserved and self inflicted. Your own cowardice lead you down that path and your fear kept you there. |

Free to play means "financed by microtransactions". For the record, I paid about 10Gé¼ in total for this game by now. This is the price that I normally pay for full PC games.
I guess it's better than free services. Because at least you aren't the product in an F2P game. Well, technically you are the product - A rather sophisticated bot - but everyone else also is, even the paying customers.
Calling free to play free is a blatant lie and absolute idiocy. Nothing is free. If you don't pay, someone else does. If no one pays, you get open-source GUIs. And I don't think anyone would want to torture themselves like that. |

I mean some of it should be allready made code and graphic wise, so just use that as a start up or an expansion for PVE here. Then just add some drones and finally we get another mode to play. |
