Lost Planet 2. A third-person shooter where any weapon can hurt anything, and vehicles can't be repaired unless you exit them and do it yourself. Also, there's a gun that you shoot your allies with to heal/give powerups to. I don't mean to be a smart-aleck, but I wanted to say something. :)
On-topic, I agree with the original post about battles being far too easily dominated with team play. Not exaggerating, 70% of the time I'm put on the opposite team of the full squad of members from one of the top 10 corporations. I don't know if I'm really unlucky, or it's based off lifetime SP or WP which team I'm put on, because I know 10 million SP is somewhat up there. Although in these situations, I worsen the problem by not using my best suits in fear of losing them. (I'm quite poor) This is something that can only be fixed by the losing team trying as hard as they can, but it just doesn't happen or can't happen, due to the trend of spawncamping with many HAVs/Prototype suits. |

I chose not to run proto gear all the time and when I find myself facing the uber groups I drop my gear down a notch further and go where ever they aren't or try to support the team by dropping uplinks (which they never have) and wait for a random blue dot to run into an objective to help him out. Invariably the proto team still finds me....why? I'm the only one trying and quite often I'm the last man standing. But that's my choice and one I make knowingly.

IT'S ABOUT THE BLUE DOTS.
They're idiots, they suck, we all know this...but that wasn't the point I was making. The point is that the game HAS TO ACCOUNT FOR IT. It currently DOES NOT.
All FPS games, and most games in general, count on the knuckle dragging, mouth breathing brand of douchebags called the casual gamer to fill their ranks. BF, COD, all of them.
If you make the game so they cannot even feel the slightest bit effective they simply will not play the game. As much as I openly detest them, we need them. Need them buying boosters and starterpacks etc in order for the game to maintain it's longevity. As soon as they figure out it's about gear spam and pay to win, they'll either go the RND route or they'll drop the game completely.
Non-proto gear rooms, however it can be done, need to be made available for ISK. Maybe even at a reduced rate. If the point of the game is not to have fun, but to grind the **** out of the player base, there won't be a playerbase because PSN FPS players don't usually enjoy the grind.
It's game. You're supposed to enjoy it. Doesn't mean it needs to be EZ Mode (KRR cough cough). But it means that there has to be some sense of "I have a chance!" Currently there is none for these guys.
And to the jack ass that keeps harping on "there is no such thing as a negative KDR"...you're not smarter than everybody, you're just a snarky little **** with a keyboard. STFU and GTFO.

Some people will say F this and give up and others will stick it out. I do not run proto nor do I even have them skilld up and if you play smart and not rush in you can survive and win. However, random blueberies are just that random. If I stick with just one other person that can fire while I reload I can hold an objective against most squads. If you rush in you die. Most are used to COD style where you respawn and it is no biggie.
If you have less kills than deaths you are doing something wrong. Play smart. If you do not have the advantage...withdraw a little. If you get redlined, LAV etc.
Any random berry is welcome in our public chat. Type LFS i.e. looking for squad and people will queue up with you.
Good luck.

I'm sorry, are you referring to this link here which shows a steady decrease in activity since the last year? You're talking about 100 more concurrent players when we're picking up 500ish a week....think about this for just one moment....
500 players a week...new...max online in the last 24 hours...4200ish. Yet this game picks up HALF that amount in a week as new guys. Or in other words...4000 new players join every 2 months....and still can't sustain over 5K at peak playing times.
That's what you call a fail, not this post.

I kinda feel bad because I'm one of those proto stompers. Earlier today me and alliance mates were dominating in a skirm. Dropping four orbitals just in our squad and me going 38/5. Enemy score average 1/15. Though it is alot of fun to proto stomp, I agree with you. I would prefer to have more of a challenge as a PC hardcore gamer. channel the anger into something constructive, not this crap. I had a thread in the rookie training grounds about dropship etiquette. it was mildly successful and I think one of the cool mercs who lead a training corp ended up sending it out to all the new bros in his corp. when I typed it I was livid, I was an atom bomb in a volcano about to explode. but rather than calling everyone around me an idiot as I was so, so inclined to do I assumed that they simply didn't know better. I have no idea how many people read it or if any of them listened, but if one, only one person listened it was a success.
I still regard that thread as one of my favorite forum posts. Most of the noobs in this game are idiots. Half of what they need to know is just common FPS knowledge. In what game will shooting a tank or flying vehicle do any damage? In what game will shooting friendlies help you in any way?
Patrick, your posts often make me laugh because of how true they are, so I enjoy reading them; they're also sensible. I cannot believe how stupid some noobs are in some matches I was in today. They did exactly like you said. I was driving around in a rail Sica on AV patrol and several of them surrounded me and were all shooting at me with ARs and SMGs, so I hopped out and gunned them down with my ScR.
Was in FW too this morning with a squad and absolutely no other blueberry on the team outside of our guys deployed any drop uplinks and 1/4 of them only stayed around Charlie and died to Madrugar blasters so we got cloned.

Demon's Souls difficulty used to be in all games before the gaming community cried about it. Hell, even when video games first started making waves, those games would cheat you. That's why you see button icons throughout a campaign (hold X to open) because of the whiners.
Gamers are just finicky and when they don't get their way or get a pat on their backs even when they lost, they get upset. It's a shame really. Gamers affect the game more than they realize but no one wants to talk about that.

Apparently, no one understands the concept of negative ratios in this thread.
Firstly, as stated prior, kdr can never be negative. when comparing the two variables, both are always positve, therefore their quotient will always be positive.
Secondly, mathematically speaking, kills and deaths are not "opposites" of each other. Suppose you have killed 7 players. Does dying 2 times mean you killed 5 people in total? no. The opposite of killing is to revive an enemy teammate. One can only achieve a negative kdr if there were some way to revive enemy teammates. In which case, the ratio would be, for every 3 kills, you revived 4 enemies. In this case, the ratio can be negative.
Thirdly, as someone pointed out, kdr is being refered to as the "net change", as in the total resulting change. In which case, we would be looking at the difference. Kills - Death. In this case, the value can be negative, however, this is not a ratio, but rather the difference. If you wanted to refer to kills versus deaths as negative, please refer to it as a kdd - kill death difference. As a mathematician and teacher, i take great offense to the misuse of the term "ratio". Please use the appropriate terminology.

Give up. CCP Devs are stupid enough to NOT understand such a simple concept in a MMOFPS. This, compared to Planetside 2, is hell (and I though PS2 was a little unbalanced, it's the most balanced thing compared to this). The lag is horrendous, the FPS drop a lot, Proto gear stomping ******* who are abusing a system who is favouring them, clearly.
CCP, **** THE VETERANS! They don't need more help. New players do. The veterans are your costumers, the new guys are your potential costumers. If you don't catter the new ones, with decent NPE, War Academy, PVE and such, they won't stick long. And We know your DUST dev money is drying, and you won't be able to make the jump for the PS4 this way. You are shitting on new players who are trying to enjoy the game. I'm a little more persistent than the average joe, but I WAS going to spend money to buy AUR, and then I though: "Why the **** spend money in a game that is so blalantly unbalanced?"
I played for 3 hours now. 3 ******* HOURS! Got stomped 80% of the time (part on what the OP said, part on your **** ups). I don't like being a WP pi+¦ata. I am NOT going to spend a dime on this thing, specially now if AUR weapons are stronger due to Aim Assist thing. You aren't cattering your potential costumer by doing this, you are cattering veterans. Newer players need to understand the game. They don't simply by playing it.
They don't have fun when being instagibber to hell thanks to something they don't understand why. They need a better enviroment to understand all the basic, and you aren't providing it, mostly because the cannon fodder then wouldn't exist for you paying costumers (that, against, dwindled because of your inaction). There is no incentive for me to pay this, not even to get better. |

If you let 6 proto gods, two of whom are in tanks, join into a pub room with nothing but soloing randoms on the other side it's going to be a redline fest every damned time.
There's a couple of things that have to be taken as fact regarding most PSN FPS players: 1) They are completely inept. No...really. A sorrier lot of worthless douchebags cannot be found under a collective banner. Think of the dumbest blue dot you've ever seen and then figure that there are others even dumber than that. 2) They don't have mics 3) They don't go to message boards 4) The vast majority of them don't know what PC is, and even if they did they have no desire to partake in it since they aren't hardcore gamers. 5) The only EvE they are familiar with is "Summer's" 6) The ones that are from EvE are some of the worst blue dots out there. 7) They can't find even the most simple of objectives. I know this because I've spent all day waiting for them to come along with me to an objective only to watch them meander off in the opposite direction at the point of no return and get slaughtered by guys in ADV gear after they've torn me apart on the button.

I was a newberry once. I didn't even know what eve was when I got the ps3 with a booster pack of gear in it for Father's Day last year. Just kind of fired it up, made a toon and went to town. I don't really play the CoDs and what not and I'm a HUGE fan of the borderlands games. When I saw the mind blowingly complex looking skill tree, I put points where they didn't need to go. Logi Stician is my second character. I googled up the Dust forums, found out how to properly spec into a role, join a corp, get comms, tactics and what have you and the game became a great deal of fun.
Even through injectors missing targets, cal logi slayers, flaylol spam, having nothing but bpos forever, I still had fun running with my corp mates.
It can get discouraging getting pubstomped by very skilled players, but when that happens, on goes the bpo suit and I get to practice flanking, taking cover, shooting and aiming straighter, and making better logi decisions.
I will go solo in doms and tankbushes every so often and do somewhere between good and horrible, but I do so at my own risk. I know what I'm getting into.
Like many, many people who play this game I would love a more refined match making system, but for now, it is what it is, and in my opinion its pretty darn fun.
I'm sorry that you hope the game fails.

I love the game, its player base, sucks (as a majority, not a whole)

Man. Reading that was like reading "Logi Stician: The Unauthorized Biography, by BattleCry1791, forward by Don Rickles".
You compared my work to that of Don Rickles? I......I....I must love you forever and ever now.
They'd ban me, but I'm too funny and more importantly, I'm right.

Today was just horrible...I saw whole teams (not in tanks) go negative 5 or 6 times. And not kind of negative. I mean 1/17.
It is impossible to have a negative kdr. In your example, 1/17 = 1 divided by 17 = 0.0588235294117647 repeated which can never be negative. In the very least aspect, kdr can be 0, but nothing less than that. also, LOL'd "going negative" refers to the K-D spread, not KDR. K-D spread is literally Kills - Deaths = K-D spread, or your contribution to the clone out. Someone who goes 1/17 has a -16 k-d spread. They went negative.
I have an ego?! O.O
The scales have fallen from my eyes.

I never want to be that guy on the killboard with 18 deaths. Feels as if a spotlight is on me.
"What were you doing wrong that brought you 18 deaths???"

You lost me at the list of insults. None of that is true. The real reason? Beer.
And, not giving that big of a sh*t about this game. Why do the work when you little 16 year old hardcore tryhards got it all covered?
Rommel, you magnificent bastard, I read your book!

For the love of all things...
Allow me to settle this debate:
K/D is seen as W/L in sports. If you are sub .500 with your W/L you are considered as having a losing season. Thus, a negative W/L ratio. This is then applied to K/D as well....every Kill is seen as a Win, and every Death is seen as a loss. Thus a 1 to 1 ratio is seen as hitting .500, even though it is technically 1.00
This is how KDR came to be...it was based off of Sports analogies do to the competitive nature of FPS.
It has nothing to d with math and every thing to do with context. Got it? Good.
They'd ban me, but I'm too funny and more importantly, I'm right.

That is why they can't keep a player base maybe? EVE and Dust are still not connected to the level they promised. So how can it not be beta if we are still testing new stuff and getting respecs just like Beta. The patches are still not upgrading the game.. just game mechanics. A finished games updates updates game mechanics and also develops the storyline of the game. The storyline is not updating because we are still just building game mechanics like a BETA. this, but dust is not even not out of alpha, that is why they cant keep playerbase. beta in development is when all basic content is availabe and ready for testing. alot of cool stuff was advertised for dust when it this game was announced LONG TIME AGO but it is still not done yet and it is almost too late... players are starting to get impatient and leaving, if it takes too much time for the devs to sort it out this game will die.
again, beta in development is when all basic content is availabe and ready for testing, basic content is in the eye of the beholder, maybe CCP defined basic content as "p2w lobby shooter to get some money of stupid kids". if it is like that, well congratulations CCP on making a **** game that nets you some money but for me basic content in dust is: -player market connected with eve online -all basic racial weapons and suits -functional objective based gameplay -nonretarded core mechanics only 1 and a half of those 4 points are currently fullfilled, the objective based gameplay can be argued as functional and some gameplay mechanics work good but alot of stuff still needs a look at like tanks ths it counts as half. in short this game is still in alpha phase.
