If you're complaining about getting scanned, maybe you should get good at this game. I'm being serious.
On one of my alts with around 3.5 mil SP, I don't run dampeners. Instead I run an Amarr Logi with RS-90 CR, basic SMG, 3x basic shield extenders, 2x basic plates, 1x basic armor repairer, A-45 Scanner, basic REs, and K-2 nanohives. Not a very "tanky" suit by any means, but I still manage 3.0+ KDR in most games while lone wolfing, even against proto squads who keep scanning me.
How? Because I use proper cover and good positioning, scan them back, set RE traps for them, etc. Just because you get scanned doesn't mean your tactics go out the window; it just means you lose the element of surprise. If the element of surprise were the only way to win this game, then we'd see a whole lot more scout shotties on the field. |

The active scanner is killing the fittings variety in this game. If you're not constantly running, AT LEAST, a suit that is below 36 dB odds are you're going to get rolled, or at the very least go ISK negative for the match, unless you are running in fittings that are 20k ISK or less.
So, outside of running junk std fitting, pretty much your only other option is to dampen. Well what's wrong with that you say. Well I'm glad you asked:
In order to get a medium suit to beat the adv scanner requires complex skills and a complex mod, which will put a med suit at 33.75 dB. So, first off, we are asking noobs to, before they do anything else skill wise, skill dampening to Lv5 and imediately start using complex dampeners on ever suit they fit if they don't want to keep getting rolled. But it doesn't stop there. In order, to counter the active scanner one must give up a vital low slot, thus drastically decreasing ones overal ability to survive. On the other hand the active scanner user must make no such sacrifices. With a minamal skill investment (Lv3 to get the adv scanner) you are easily on your way. All you have to give up to use the AS is one equipment slot. Easy enough if your a logi, you won't even notice. If you are an assault, so you'll have to look for a nanohive in order to rearm in the field - no big deal.
Scanners have no real draw back for the user. And to beat the scanner costs you the abillity to survive well. And not beating the scanner is even worse.
So there you have it scanner 514.

You're saying that new players are going to get stomped by proto squads who use scanners, because new players shouldn't be expected to immediately skill into profile dampeners all the way to proto when so many other things take priority, and use less SP.
New players will get stomped by proto squads regardless. It happened during shared team vision and it's happening during shared squad vision with scanners. Sometimes vet players also get stomped by proto squads, even if they have dampening up.
In some games, you just CAN'T win, due to how the teams are stacked. As a lone wolfer you know this. So instead of throwing your body at the enemy and losing tons of suits, you have to play smart, hang back, and engage only on your terms. You can do this even if you get scanned. |

No man, it was never this bad. Shutting off the radar, and making a way to counter it only accessable to highly skilled players is just tearing the the noob apart. I'm currently tracking about 400 random noobs, through my contacts, and let me tell you it's pretty bad. You know all those player at the bottom of the score board EVERY game, going 0/8, 1/15 etc. yup you guessed it all noobs. They are getting utterly slaughtered.

If they're getting stomped even more than pre-1.4, it's because they aren't scanning back.
If you don't know where the enemy is and they know where you are, you're pretty much screwed.
Newberries need to band together in squads and make sure they have people scanning, if only to have everyone pointed in the direction of the oncoming enemy. |

If not already mentioned, drawback for the scanner... YOU CAN'T PUT AWAY WHILE IN USE!!!! As soon as you pull that trigger your a sitting duck scanned or not. There's no melee to interrupt there's no arming up when you find that person around the corner.
There's also the option to upgrade you suit scanner which also comes in handy and is largely overlooked.
As for upgrading to LVL 5, it doesn't take very much SP if i remember correctly so it's easy to upgrade.
And if you find that you are being scanned a whole lot, then build not to be scanned. ;) |

It actually is a drawback, and it happens to the best of us. For instance when you scan and someone decloaks from an uplink you didn't see, or when a dampened enemy catches you with your scanner out.
But my point from before still stands; if you can't dodge scans, the next best thing is to scan people back. Scanners are the single most important piece of equipment you can have, and every squad needs to use one, preferably more than one.
If you are lone wolfing, especially without dampeners, you definitely need a scanner. |

The answer to the new player problem is to keep them in academy for WAY longer. Like 5x as long. If you have 20 mil plus skill points and you're still getting scanned after 3 months of these things being on the field, that's your own bad choices and you should have to live with them. This is New Eden.

350 eHP? You might as well go full scout if your so concerned about scanners. As a scout I rarely get scanned, & when I do I just throw on a basic dampener & keep it moving. If you want to avoid scanners you should be weak just like us scouts. Seems to be working as intended. |
