I picked them because they are far more different from and real world establishment we have, and more open to creating unique and interesting characters, not to mention everyone and their grandma seems to want to be "freedom junkies" in this game. I mean really, X thousand years in the future and everyone still wants to play the status quo?

<--- this guy was because I was going to play as heavy sniper and the only heavy is an Amarr... seemed fitting. (quickly realized it wasn't a good build but kept him as forum face)
The char I actually play on is an Achura Caldari and I chose that because I like the look of the caldari equipment, their tactics (keep away and hit them hard), and I liked the Achura bio. |

How so? I'm not at all familiar with EVE lore apart from the very short synopsis I've read in which they are slave-owning jerks.
Actually does anyone have any links or anything that describes the four EVE races in more detail, but at the same time is not a million pages long. Definitely not the EVE wiki pages. More like a more detailed summary.

o that's easy...
amarr are the oG players of new eden, been around forever, and lead civilized peoples.
Minmatar are the maids, butlers, cleaning ladies and bathroom attendents for the Amarr.
Gallente and Caldari, meh who cares, story not interesting.
Now go find me a Minmatar and have him make me a SaMMiCH! |

Ha. People prefer the "freedom junkies" as you've coined them because you don't have to look too far to discover the poisonous results of religious extremism, totalitarianism in governments, or elitist exceptionalism in this, our sad reality. You merely picked the faction that combines all three of those cancerous ideals, making the Amarr the most realistic Empire in New Eden, and thus the easiest to hate. The Mimitar and the Gallente with their defense of the individual and promotion of benevolent egalitarianism are pure escapist fantasy, and thus naturally the most popular.
I picked Gallente because I like Iain Bank's The Culture series, and The Gallente as a culture of free-wheeling, equalist party animals remind me of The Culture.

Well it had a lot of influence from the fact that I read "EVE the Empyrean Age" before I even learned of EVE the game's existence. In it the Minmatar are pretty much portrayed as the (sometimes stupid) victims of fate. They weren't exactly the good guys, but were far from what I considered evil. Also, I always go for the underdog for some reason and my choice was made.
That and at the time my views of the races were as follows:
Gallente- "MURICA, F**K YEAH!," They seemed the obvious good guys, and while I generally am a good guy they just seemed too perfect at the time and I knew a lot of the people who fit the above phrase would join. I wanted no part of that.
Caldari-Tibus Heth, I genuinely hated him at the time and didn't want anything to do with the Caldari because of him alone. I saw him as a racist aggressor who would commit any act, as long as the victims were Gallente (the Gallente female swimming when he walks into his new headquarters as a simple example).
Amarr- Slavery, I am in reality too much of a nice guy to support the concept of slavery, even to digital avatars. They seemed to be THE bad guys, even if they had good intentions. And the most important Amarrians in the book were Karsoth, a power corrupted madman, and Jamyl a woman who killed Millions of the people I supported upon her introduction to the public.
My opinions have long since changed, but you asked why I chose what race I did, not what I currently think of them. |

Way back in EVE when I created my first character I went with Gallente, because I found them the most relateable. From the Gallente I chose Intaki because the description of their personality was similar to my own.
When I created my DUST merc, I went with the same princible, but my character has since then evolved into an Intaki freedom fighter who opposes the Gallente. It's quite interesting. |

Intaki Syndacate is not supported by the Gallente Federation and there have been battles between the Intaki and the rest of the Gallente, so it does make sense |
