Thats all the op was saying, people realise your gonna use harsh language, It can be quite distressing sometimes, all thats really needed is for people to consider the feelings of others before they open their mouths! Not to mention their are plenty of derogatory terms that aren't a slur.
Political correctness is a different matter, political correctness is like removing words from song deslite it having a different meaning. The ones who scream for political correctness are the opposite side to some of the people here. There is a middle ground easily achievable by having a little forethought. |

This world has gotten too politcally correct, no wonder the work place is becoming ******. you can blame the liberals for that bullshit I do, liberals are awful. I also forgot to mention the state of the economy and how weak America has become. Makes me glad im not american but I feel bad for them, how far they have fallen since the 20's **** the '20s. The late '40s until the late '60s were the U.S.'s best years. All we had in the '20s was prohibition, and crime caused by prohibition. The '30s were even worse though, with the Great Depression and whatnot. |

It has its place and derogatory remarks is one of those places. Words are offensive and hurtful when the meaning and the vitriol behind it is obvious. As a gay man myself I would rather have people stand with me if I have to call out a dickhead (calling a person a *** or a situation gay is a dickish thing to do.) Than do it on my own which is hard, upsetting and can be very lonely if no one else stands with you. I hope that more stand with me and others who are openly gay than don't. I hope that we, the community as a whole, can look past the idea of 'its only trolling' and block and report people like this for bullying to CCP. by saying that people SHOULD be sensitive because of political correctness will get hardly anyone to stand with you. political correctness is a ******* joke, hands down. regardless of background, if your weak and appear weak, in the real world, your going to be kicked to the curve. being gay doesn't entitle you to special treatment, regardless of your views. It's so sad that our society (well, maybe "society" is not the best term, since I would say this actaully extends to the whole planet) is so used to refer to sexuality or race as an insult.
It's so... withering.
However, I have an idea of the ****storm that a gamer woman runs into when playing online games. Personally (as a woman), I don't really want to get a microphone to talk with people. I know it would be helpful for some games (like this one) to coordinate with my team, but I really don't feel motiveted to use a mic when I play.
In the end, I would use it just a few times, because there is no way I would talk in a mic during a public game, knowing of what generally happens to my friends.
If people don't insult you or tell you to STFU, it's because the whole thing is getting very creepy.
Sometimes I feel so disgusted because of what happens in the voice chat (DUST is not the case, but there are quite enough women on Call of Duty and some other game) that I feel so bad and I can't have fun any longer. I just turn my PS3 off. |

i will only bring it up again once, of your too ignorant to actually read it and look into it more, then oh ******* well.
since Obama was 1st elected, our taxes have gone up 10 fold, our debt was increased by him alone by more than 3 trillion $ in his 1st term, something no president has done in history.
if the corporations and higher ups didnt have to pay so many taxes, they would be laying people off in order to avoid bankruptcy.
the government should never be the place the people go for safety or financial security, the government should be the ones serving the citizens, not the citizens serving the government.
in the end, were in the declining of the american country because the people in power both liberal and conservative have gotten power hungry and are sucking more money from the corporations we need to give us jobs. resulting in another depression.
if you wont bother to look into any of what i just said are too ignorant to read it clearly and carefully then your truly a liberal and i have nothing else to say to you. |

oh, i thought you were blaming everything on republicans and saying the demwits are the deliverers.
neither American party represents the original ideals that the country was founded on. they have been here for far too long for that to be possible, both sides have twisted and made their ideals based on the amrican ideals deformed.
but facts to show that Obama has put us more debt than any other presidents combined single handedly. |

I would speak with your Uncle then and ask him how he would react if someone in the street shouts F*G! at him or his partner. Someone shouting that in a game is a similar situation, when you are trying to live your life and someone says horrible things about you in a blatantly nasty manner its a jarring horrible experience.
I have had it a few times in the street, I have even been attacked for holding a boyfriends hand in the street so sometimes if I ask reasonably that people try to understand what it can be like for a gay person to live openly I would hope they would. I am glad that the majority in this thread understand and have stood with me either in giving tacit support to the sentiment of the thread or even liking mine and others posts.
I like to think of playing games as a fun pastime, but if I come in for abuse from someone for being myself, I am who I am after all ;-) then meh I'll mute them and mock them in open channel and report them if they send me hateful messages, then move on to the next round.
Maybe you are correct about the term 'political correctness' though its too loaded a term for knuckle dragging numptys who read and listen to too much right wing media. I'll call it something else then...
How about 'not being a prick'?
Good luck in college, may it open your mind a bit more.

Admittedly, I drop the F-bomb in-game? Is it wrong? Definitely. I've been trying to remove it from my vocabulary, but it's just reaction now. Jacked up, I know. The thing is, I'm friends with several LGB members of the community, so I'm more careful when I'm with them. If one slips, I'll immediately apologize.
The only way to help this issue is to implement a corp policy and play with people you know. Online gaming has its fair share of people who are hateful just because they can hide behind their username.
Remember, if something is said that offends you, put in a support ticket with as many details as possible to include time, date, username, photo/video evidence if possible, etc. |

I could care less about that if you can pull the trigger of your gun to kill the enemy.
I rarely ever think of sexuality when it comes to games, this lifestyle is still new and is going through growing pains, basically going through the stereotypes and sensitive issues.
true gamers don't care what the **** you are; male, female, gay, straight, lesbian, black, white. as long as you can help them to gain victory, youl have the respect you want.
its those little kids that care about what you are.. my advice, either stay away form the kids or kill them in battle and gloat about it. True But say you where in a group, you said this or that. But he came to you saying "can you cut it out while i am around" would you? at least apologize for saying it? The point of the post was that, HE DID ask for it to quit, and was called "An overly sensitive *****" I would never have said it and/or would probably stop, but that's just because I'm a nice guy and it's not in my everyday dictionary. I would also and think to myself "Jezus that douche needs to HTFU". The bedroom scene from Boondock Saints comes to mind... i.e. the term used does not have anything to do with ACTUAL sexuality and it doesn't even always connote homophobia. And if it does, who cares? One can hardly be oppressed in a video game. One can, however, oppress oneself through constantly pulling a victim card.

More or less with you, OP, though I would also say a certain thickness of skin is something of a requirement. Asking folks to be more conscious of some of their language is not unreasonable by any stretch, even if they don't want to compromise too much they can be civil about it, make it known they mean nothing by it. That's something I guess.
An explosive refusal followed by ostracisation? Not so cool. When meeting such reactions I'm afraid there's nothing for it but cutting ties, it's unfortunate but there's no cure for being a ****.
I'm not sensitive, at least not in the conventional sense, it's just that the most pervasive ****-talkers are either wretched, miserable, edgy or immature more often than not. Not pleasant company. People who swear a lot are fine by me it's just ****-talking which is typically bundled with negative character traits. Sometimes it's just passing frustration but usually the pattern holds. That's my main reason for avoiding them. If the swearing is uncreative doubly so. Most of the people who swear a lot are really bad at swearing.
End of the day I believe in being civil and will try and hold myself to that. Keep it relaxed. Don't be a **** (unless it'd be really, really funny). Be decent to those around you. The standard tenets. While it'd be nice if most people were chill with each other gotta be prepared for that not to be the case. In this game you just gotta keep searching 'til you find those you are cool with. Wish you the best of luck in that. |

I have nothing to say on this subject that hasn't been said already, but its important, and I'm glad it's being discussed. |
