As a openly gay gamer for the last 17 years all i can say is you've just gotta get over the little stuff, rarely do ppl say these things with actual malice towards the ppl they might be insulting, sometimes they do, then if you wish you document it and report it.

Your friend seems to have the right idea though, if a quite word doesn't change it just move on these games are huge and there is always welcoming groups that don't care or even openly welcome ppl with diverse backgrounds and ways of life, smart people know there is strength in diversity.

People would be wise to remember that what they say in game is kept in vast logs, in eve a copy of the chat logs is kept on your computer, players would have years of convos, here we don't have them or perhaps we don't have access to them, but rest assured CCP does, and if you cross the line they will if prompted kick you in the butt.

Swearing and the odd competive stuff "w*****r" is generally accepted, but I think that racial, homophobic, or religious slurs are uncalled for and unnecessary.

Unfortunately we live in an odd world and some people lack alot of the better attributes, I think I speak on behalf of the entire community when I extend my deepdst sympathies for your friend and I hope he continues to enjoy the game and the positive side of the community.

Political correctness is there to help people feel comfortable its all too often used as a bad term. It has its place and derogatory remarks is one of those places. Words are offensive and hurtful when the meaning and the vitriol behind it is obvious.

As a gay man myself I would rather have people stand with me if I have to call out a dickhead (calling a person a *** or a situation gay is a dickish thing to do.) Than do it on my own which is hard, upsetting and can be very lonely if no one else stands with you.

I hope that more stand with me and others who are openly gay than don't.

I hope that we, the community as a whole, can look past the idea of 'its only trolling' and block and report people like this for bullying to CCP.

I don't want to sound mean or anything but I honestly don't care enough to be offended by any of those insults. I have a much, much darker view of the world than most people but I also get the bittersweet knowledge that in the scheme of things it's not worth it to to be upset over.

C) Being Gay does not make one weak if anything it makes you stronger and more able to stand up to idiots.

D) I don't want special treatment I wish to be treated like any other person and mocked for my inability to hit someone with a gun not for my preference to have sex with them.

E) Get some Gay friends and talk to them you'll find in general we're very nice people who just want to be able to play our games without being mocked for being who we are, just as you shouldn't call a black person n****r or an asian person "slanty eyed". I promise you we don't want to have sex with you if thats what you're worried about, I guarantee that.

America is a broken country as is our economy but it certainly isnt the liberals fault more like the upper class with their bought out 15% tax bracket. and the war mongering republicans so sad to watch a country that used to be for the middle and lower class go against the very ideas it was founded upon..but America like every other democracy has reached its future destination,and become the corrupt lie that every democracy before turned into. this change has nothing to do with liberal's or the evolution of our culture...useing politically correct terms did not cause america's ruin the people robbing our government of revenue and then making choice to spend what revenue we have on war is why our country is broken. with the upper classes taxes half what the lower and middle classes lol america shares the fate of every democracy collapse and ruin revolution and change it is very sad humans never learn we never change and history continuously repeats itself.

i never said anything about obama i certainly did not vote for him actually i didnt vote for mcain either i opt hen its a choice between 2 evils. and it doesnt matter who is president republican or democrat no one can say the state of our government could be laid on one parties shoulders. certainly not one preseidents soldier america was not ruined by one presidency but by a series of bad coices made by both parties because ultimatley in america what you represent personally does not matter in politics allt hat matter is what side you are on left or right..dems vote for dems just because they are dems and so do republicans..my only point in my statement was that the republicans of today represent the exact oposite of what their party was founded on ..the democrats of today represent the ideal america was founded on thee original republican party the VIRGINIAN REPUBLICAN PARTY (asa virginian i feal the need to point that out) represented the same ideals that the democrats do now and the republicans of today represent the same ideal the original federalists represent. the issue with america didnt begin with the presidency it began with congress one by one our representatives were bought out by mega corps...those congressmen have been holding open loopholes that allow people like obama and anyone in the upper class to LEGALLY PAY half of what any other American citizen pays. on top of that unlike the presidency our congressmen have 0 term limit meaning the same ******* who made assinine choice in world war 2 and vietnam is stil STILL REPRESENTING US ... they're are people in congress who have been voting for their personal taxes to be lowered while ours are raised for over 50 years ...THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH OBAMA..and sadly their is nothing our figurehead of a president can do about that...it is highly unlikely that majority of the congress will ever vote to adjust and fix the tax system as that would cost them money...and it is highly unlikely our economy will ever not be in debt again.

I would speak with your Uncle then and ask him how he would react if someone in the street shouts F*G! at him or his partner. Someone shouting that in a game is a similar situation, when you are trying to live your life and someone says horrible things about you in a blatantly nasty manner its a jarring horrible experience.

I have had it a few times in the street, I have even been attacked for holding a boyfriends hand in the street so sometimes if I ask reasonably that people try to understand what it can be like for a gay person to live openly I would hope they would. I am glad that the majority in this thread understand and have stood with me either in giving tacit support to the sentiment of the thread or even liking mine and others posts.

I like to think of playing games as a fun pastime, but if I come in for abuse from someone for being myself, I am who I am after all ;-) then meh I'll mute them and mock them in open channel and report them if they send me hateful messages, then move on to the next round.

Maybe you are correct about the term 'political correctness' though its too loaded a term for knuckle dragging numptys who read and listen to too much right wing media. I'll call it something else then...
