This argument is so... so...pointless that I don't know where to begin... Almost everything here said can be twisted around back on basic infantry of every type. The only thing snipers cannot do is hack points from a distance. However many people also fail to realize there are plenty of infantry players who never stoop to touching a point, they just kind of hover around it looking for people to shoot. Of course those people are conveniently ignored because they're of the same combat role and they're not as easily singled out for finger pointing when it becomes "convenient".
As for complaining about redline sniping, If you're not willing to learn how to use a sniper rifle to hit people back in the redline (INCREDIBLY EASY TARGETS BTW) then you REALLY DESERVE to get shot every time by those snipers simply because you were too lazy to try and actually get the gear required to deal with the situation.
Again ego-blasters feel it to be somehow blasphemous of their particular weaponistic religion to switch to an alternate weapon scheme as a situation tactically demands. It's laziness at it's highest caliber. You complain on the forums instead of getting a rifle and shooting those sitting ducks right back.[/quote
Sniping is not useless at all, and if you ARE tactical it is a huge help. But the majority of ppl sniping are doing it to get fat on kdr and isk. I have watched someone go 60-2 and lose, just as I'm sure you have gone 30-0 and lost. If that's your thing then fine, but don't act like it sways the battle one way or another. You may be able to pick off 1 or 2 from a squad that's hacking the objective, but you're not gonna stop the hack. And what could be your problem with taking away the red-zone or making it smaller? It's still a big map with plenty of places to hide, you just can't count on someone not being able to get to you, if in fact you do matter in the battle and need to be taken out. Maybe it doesn't have to be as dramatic as changing a core element in the game, give me a bullet trail to follow and I can deal. |

You really think the greater of two evils is that occasionally a group of guys won't get that extra 50 WP for a minute or two after they've played so poorly they've gotten redlined? At that point the game is basically over already anyway, and hopefully that team will learn to plan ahead a bit better in the future.
And sure, if you happen to have spent weeks skilling specifically into sniping you may be able to countersnipe from your own redline, but it's just as easy for a sniper to slip backwards two steps from the edge just like the tanks do when they get hit.
Fixing an obvious problem with "just do it too" isn't good enough, and has led us to the point we are today where every match has multiple head glitching snipers hiding where only the other redline snipers can even attempt to do anything about them. |

Kincats, a scout suit, a scanner and skills in speed and hacking allow me to clear out an objective, hack it, and sprint back to a safer distance. Then it's easy picking for the redberries that think they can reclaim the objective, especially because I don't show on their scanners. It's save to say I hack on average 4 objects during a domination or skirmish match.

I completely agree. Snipers aren't the problem, the redline mechanics are the problem. Why are some of the best sniping spots on each map only accessible by one team? It's just ****-poor map design. |

No, the counter to redline snipers is another sniper rifle placed anywhere it can get a shot. It doesn't have to be in your own redline. And teams can be redlines a whole match, and likely because they aren't doing so hot, yes. But will repeatedly being denied progress help them get better? Are they to flounder in militia fits until they either leave or get lucky?
Funkmaster has the right of it though, it's the map design. If there weren't good positions in the redline, it wouldn't happen. A hill in the redline provides a protected vantage point. The problem however is that we end up needing no hills by any redline, because it will either be within the redline and sniped from, or without the redline and sniped from, into the redline, destroying the redline's purpose.
Of the two, the redline sniper is the lesser of two evils. It's too easy to spawn in the free sniper fit and take them out, or, if they're a heavy suit and drop back like you say, pop 'em in the head a couple of times until they move. |

I disagree, and yes I red line snipe. I know this is not real life but in real life most snipers are so far removed from the battle you will never see them or hear them until the bullet cracks the skull in front of you. Snipers are very vulnerable and have no decent place to hide or snipe from these days. So they snipe from towers or the redline due to how easy it is to be killed. Its a tactic just like an AR or ScR user that hides behind cover and shoots someone from long distance. |

A sniper did 60-2 and he lost? HE lost? So, you would consider a sniper to be a worthy asset to a team only if he can solo-win a whole match? Look mate, if a team had a sniper that did 60-2 in a match, then the last person to blame for losing the match would be that sniper. He definitely did his part of the job. It was you and your "real-men-do-it-up-close-and-personal" buddies who failed.

Actually most snipers sitting in the redline don't do their entire job, which is to no only drop targets of opportunity at extensive distances, but to also provide troop movement intel to the boots on the ground and in the thick of it.
And that cannot be solely done from the redline. |

If you can shoot me, but I can't even get to you, that's a problem with basic game mechanics. b.s.
just get rid of the red line altogether then. Get rid of snipers and forge guns and tanks. Assault suits and rifles will be all this game needs... I swear... Assaults are racking up huge kills, don't complain about a few lousy games. Pub matches will evolve, but its not going to change over night. If you want to get some jollies put on a cheap militia sniper fit and find the redliners,it works for me! |

They really don't help their team at all, just themselves and their kdr. I have seem a 60-2 in a domination before, and he lost. This isn't becoming ridiculous. You are.
IN one regard I see your point in the fact that the hypothetical sniper did their job, but in reality they only did half of it.
The issue here is that the pay outs for the public matches are ludicrously low now since the 1.4 update. One has to accrue over 2000 WP in order to make over 250k ISK.
People are redline sniping because they are afraid to loose their precious suits, and that is because protogear, in an al together sort of way, is expensive. The expense is as it should be. This display of aversion to loss by people is what has pushed them into sniping.
This is where the arguments for PVE and player trading would come into play in order to diversify the player base through the diversification of the game modes.

Of course you don't. Because its the sound of a sniper laughing way out in the redline. Aww, I thought it was inevitability? |

True. In order to gain good ISK, you must really earn massive WP. But you fail to realize that snipers are at a huge disadvantage with regard to WP accrual. They get points for kills and assists. That's about it. No hacking, no uplinks/nanos, no repping team mates... I play as a sniper (you probably guessed it). I don't consider myself to be elite, but I know what I'm doing. Due to the nature of my role, I tend to be among the top ranking players with regards to kill count. But I'm very, very rarely the top WP scorer. Situations where I have something like 15 kills, and 3-4 assists are not uncommon. That's cca. 850 WPs. In most matches I play, top WP scorers do 1500+, and I'm rarely in the top 5.
Sniping is hardly an efficient method to earn good ISK. My sniping fit costs me around 80k. Adv. logi suit, charge sniper, 3x complex damage mods... it's not super-expensive, but it's not cheap-fit either. If you want to snipe efficiently, going cheap on your damage output won't get you anywhere. Even if my losses are minimal, if I get killed 1-2 times per match, my earnings are far from spectacular. |

This argument is so... so...pointless that I don't know where to begin... Almost everything here said can be twisted around back on basic infantry of every type. If a sniper actually got 60 kills there is no way his team would have lost. Even a noob team can steamroll the opponents if one guy is killing that much... "Snipers cannot push on an objective" is an utter crap statement made by someone who knows nothing of actual combat tactics. If the enemy cannot approach an objective, what does it matter if the person shooting is 20 meters or 200 meters away?
"Because they're not playing MY preferred role everyone else is useless!"--- The basic concept behind this ego-centric post. Having no grasp of the flow of battle will tend to do this.
You complain on the forums instead of getting a rifle and shooting those sitting ducks right back.[/quote]
90% of the time, redline snipers are in it for themselves. 90% of the time snipers in DUST are in it for the KDR. And 90% of the time these snipers will have themselves on top of the leaderboards with their super high body counts. And yes, a sniper can get 60 kills and still lose a game.
You suggest to have us change fits at a supply depot to counter snipe you? How many times do you change fits to do something when your team needs your help other than to feed your KDR? A lot of these players drop in a match to play their favorite roles just as YOU. The difference is that they'll need to come to you and you don't need to come to them. No problem. The PROBLEM is there's this radioactive territory that protects you and kills the health of anyone who dares enters your SAFE ZONE that there's no way for them to reach you. And if there happens to be no supply depot lying around because some redline tanker decides to pop it. Your suggesting for us to commit suicide just to change fits and "ADAPT". That's great. We'll commit suicide for you while you risk nothing sitting pretty shooting targets at a theme park.
If redline counter sniping was SOOOOOO easy to do for everyone, then why is it that SOOOOO many snipers are sniping with an officer grade weapon such as the Thales? I'll tell you why. It's because they know that redline sniping is the safest spot to be and poses very very very.....did I say very? Yes I did....very very little risk.
In the real world of sniping there are no redlines to protect the sniper. And though this is a game, the intentions was to recreate similar tactics and scenarios as in the real world.
In the end. 90% of snipers in this game are KDR whores. And there are only a fine few that are true snipers. |
