A sniper did 60-2 and he lost? HE lost? So, you would consider a sniper to be a worthy asset to a team only if he can solo-win a whole match? Look mate, if a team had a sniper that did 60-2 in a match, then the last person to blame for losing the match would be that sniper. He definitely did his part of the job. It was you and your "real-men-do-it-up-close-and-personal" buddies who failed.
This isn't becoming ridiculous. You are. |

The issue here is that the pay outs for the public matches are ludicrously low now since the 1.4 update. One has to accrue over 2000 WP in order to make over 250k ISK.
People are redline sniping because they are afraid to loose their precious suits, and that is because protogear, in an al together sort of way, is expensive. The expense is as it should be. This display of aversion to loss by people is what has pushed them into sniping.
This is where the arguments for PVE and player trading would come into play in order to diversify the player base through the diversification of the game modes.
Just saying my .02 ISK
True. In order to gain good ISK, you must really earn massive WP. But you fail to realize that snipers are at a huge disadvantage with regard to WP accrual. They get points for kills and assists. That's about it. No hacking, no uplinks/nanos, no repping team mates... I play as a sniper (you probably guessed it). I don't consider myself to be elite, but I know what I'm doing. Due to the nature of my role, I tend to be among the top ranking players with regards to kill count. But I'm very, very rarely the top WP scorer. Situations where I have something like 15 kills, and 3-4 assists are not uncommon. That's cca. 850 WPs. In most matches I play, top WP scorers do 1500+, and I'm rarely in the top 5.
Sniping is hardly an efficient method to earn good ISK. My sniping fit costs me around 80k. Adv. logi suit, charge sniper, 3x complex damage mods... it's not super-expensive, but it's not cheap-fit either. If you want to snipe efficiently, going cheap on your damage output won't get you anywhere. Even if my losses are minimal, if I get killed 1-2 times per match, my earnings are far from spectacular. |

Some of them sure are, but I think you're exaggerating with the 90%.
Jake Diesel wrote:And 90% of the time these snipers will have themselves on top of the leaderboards with their super high body counts.
If by "leaderboards" you mean WP score table displayed at the end of the match, then this is far form true. From my experience, top WP scorers are mostly logibros who spam uplinks/nanos ad nauseam.
Jake Diesel wrote:And yes, a sniper can get 60 kills and still lose a game.
A logibro can score 3000 WP, and still lose a game. So what?
Jake Diesel wrote:You suggest to have us change fits at a supply depot to counter snipe you? How many times do you change fits to do something when your team needs your help other than to feed your KDR? A lot of these players drop in a match to play their favorite roles just as YOU. The difference is that they'll need to come to you and you don't need to come to them. No problem. The PROBLEM is there's this radioactive territory that protects you and kills the health of anyone who dares enters your SAFE ZONE that there's no way for them to reach you. And if there happens to be no supply depot lying around because some redline tanker decides to pop it. Your suggesting for us to commit suicide just to change fits and "ADAPT". That's great. We'll commit suicide for you while you risk nothing sitting pretty shooting targets at a theme park.
With the exception of just a few maps/socket layouts, redline sniping is not efficient unless the sniper's team is dominated and pushed back by the opponent. Redline sniper will not score many kills if he is so loss-averse as to not leave his safe zone no matter what, which in turn means, he won't cause much trouble to you or your team mates.
In the situation where sniper's team is pushed back, redline snipers have plenty of targets, AND people who otherwise don't play snipers switch to snipers so they can do some damage and don't get massacred. But, if your team is dominating the match - controlling all objectives, covering all approach routes, etc. , what on earth is forcing you to climb those redline hills to kill the snipers? You're winning anyway! Simply camp the objectives, take cover from snipers and let them come to you if they have the balls. I can't understand people who try to push the enemy completely off the map, and then whine about redline snipers.
Jake Diesel wrote:If redline counter sniping was SOOOOOO easy to do for everyone, then why is it that SOOOOO many snipers are sniping with an officer grade weapon such as the Thales? I'll tell you why. It's because they know that redline sniping is the safest spot to be and poses very very very.....did I say very? Yes I did....very very little risk.
]In the real world of sniping there are no redlines to protect the sniper. And though this is a game, the intentions was to recreate similar tactics and scenarios as in the real world.
Counter sniping is easy when you have to take out people who otherwise play something else, and have switched to snipers because they're losing. "Pro" snipers won't be easy targets, regardless of them being inside redline or out of it.
Redline was introduced in DUST to prevent one team from completely massacring another. Redline sniping is a drawback of this, but it is far less worse than what would happen if it wasn't there. If it were to be removed, that would unleash a storm of crying, whining and rage of unseen proportions. |
