Flanking would absolutely still be useful. If you have one guy, lone wolfing it, the maps are large and open enough to snipe him. If you are actually organized and holding your area as a coordinated group, a lone wolf wont get you.

For those of you that want a Xbox controller for your PS3, this is probably the closest you will get without an adapter. Some reviews note deadzones, some say it's great; I have never used it so I can't say. Just throwing out an option.
