Grenadier lvl II gives you packed AV grenades, so it's not really a big investment. As for the question how good they are for that kind of shield, I'd say pack few nanohives also.

Interesting. Why do you think it's trash? I used it exclusively last build. Cheap and sturdy was my impressions about it. Of course, if you like it fast, scout suits are the way to go but as Assault, type II is good IMO.
