Actually, I disagree completely with the OP. Weapon sounds is one thing CCP got right. Due to the distinct sounds for all weapons, it's easy to identify them by sound which is very useful.

Only thing I think REALLY needs to be fixed is the ability to shoot while cloaked.... There has to be a delay in changing from the cloak to a weapon in order to ensure you are visible before you can shoot.
