Nova knives should only be used by scouts. I'd get an assault rifle. Pistols are a lot of fun, but require more skill to use (you have to aim, you can't be spammy the clown).

I like to call in an LAV and place it so it protects my back or one side. On some maps there's a spot where people come from and can throw a grenade on you, but a well placed LAV can correct that.
