Hello mentors and students alike,
I've noticed that the Training Grounds is too often swept under the rug. That's about to change. I'm announcing Bojo's Grand Bazaar Grants!
Phase I: I will go through the training grounds and find the best, most prolific, and helpful mentors/authors and award them a cash sum for their work.
Phase II: If you demonstrate a good reputation as a mentor/author, I will award grants to finance research that will be used for the purpose of writing a training ground thread. Yes your thread will have to have an official stamp on it somewhere otherwise I'll cut your funding. Why? Is it my ego? No, it's just for the general principle of credit due where credit earned.
This may take a little to generate the deserving sums that some of our great mentors & authors deserve so be patient and let the chi flow.

I already made 10 million for winning the D-Uni slogan contest. At this rate I am going to end up making more ISK on the forums than I make in game.

I am continuing with these payments and grants, but please regard that I am being overly-generous. I am currently donating to both mentors and Condors. It may be a while for me make all these payments, but surely, they will be made. Thank you for your patience.

Well my contribution on this forum in the near future will be mostly advice, although I am sure that my guides continue to provide a useful resources for new players and players changing roles.
I am doing research on an Alt into Heavies and LAVGÇÖs, but I donGÇÖt expect anything to come out of that for a while yet. I want to see how LAVGÇÖs fit into the context of the 1.5 vehicle balance and the 1.4 impact changes. (I understand that LAV damage at low speed was a bug where damage was applied to a clone multiple times as it stuck to the LAV.) In this era of the murder taxi the value of the LAV turret has been overshadowed. So I might do a LAV guide in the fall.
With Fox I am just polishing up some base skills and keeping a lookout for new alternate stratagems to try out. I like to explore the Road Not Taken, but then I write a guide about it and the Road Not Taken becomes an 8 lane highway. |

The Scrambler Rifle Scout? I honestly don't know anyone who has tried and I would feed them money to do so. |

Std gear only but in my experience unless you got the drop with a charged shot you just couldn't stay alive long enough in a firefight. |

I happened to see Chank up on your list of grantees....are all the other spreadsheeters getting some love too? (ie me and hydraslav?)
At the very least hydraslav should be on your list seeing as his fitting tool is beyond impressive and represents multiple days worth of manhours. |

Try out ranging them. I use the TAC AR on my scout. No extra health modules either.

Yes Chankk did do some spreadsheets but he also did The Unified Theory of Scan Profile and General Tactics Overview. I just glanced and I see you did a Scout Guide and I will look into that. I appreciate your spreadsheet wisdom but understand that it was not the first thing I was looking for. Regardless I will look into spreadsheet authors. |

I honestly don't know anyone who has tried and I would feed them money to do so. Funny you should mention it because I just started experimenting with the Assault Scrambler Rifle/SMG combo. Assault Scrambler Rifle gives range, and strips shields, while I use Breach SMG with its increased armour damage to finish them when I get close enough. I picked up the Scrambler Rifle because I was tired of not having enough range to shoot across a street.
Now that said, I must admit that I have been using an Assault suit. I have found the fitting requirements too tight to fit a Drop uplink with the Assault Scrambler Rifle equipped, so if the fitting is that tight on an Assault suit I am unsure if I could make a decent Scout suit fit with the Scout suits that I have access to. I may give it a try, but I will have to delete an existing fit to make room for the new one. |

Well Fox, you know as well as I do that scouts are about the sacrifices. The lost modules, the lost CPU/PG, the lost equipment slots, the lost health.
But it seems like the longer range of Scrambler rifles would really play into the scout-sniper just more medium long range. Also try the normal, the assault is more for those close up deals. |

I am working on my biggest guide yet:
Fox Guide: Frontline, a Medium Infantry manual
Here is my rough outline of section headings, and I am sure there are sections I am not thinking of.
- Using Cover - Not being Sniper bait - Use your Ears
- Communication - Direction, Distance, and Position
- Cover me IGÇÖm Hacking - Kill an Uplink, Stop an Army - Targeting Priorities - How to kill a Heavy - Dealing with Enemy Tanks - Suppression fire, Area denial - Rapid Transport, Have LAV will Travel - Air Transport, Using Dropships (clear LZ, get in, get out when pilot tells you)
- Keeping your Heavy alive - Locating and calling Sniper Positions - Protect your Tank
- When to Rep and when to Shoot. - When to Stick-em, and when to let em die
This will just cover the basics, the rules of thumb when you are starting out. They can read the specialty guides to learn when it is appropriate to break those rules of thumb. |
