Seriously, it's an incredible difference. I feel like I've been missing out on some of the best parts of this game so far.
Probably sounds even better with proper surround sound cranked up.

I'm using Sony Pulse elites which should work on the PS4. If anyone has been considering getting a decent headset I strongly recommend you go for it.

Sound is often neglected. I hook mine up to my PC speaks via the Composite cable, you can push the Audio out in the PS3 settings.

Btw, I personally think CCP did a great job on the sound- this is the only game where I feel that having your volume up matters. I can see with my ears as well as my eyes.

I got the same impression. I cant play TV loud because of my family, so I figured I'd get a pair of head phones. I figured I'd go with Sony Pulse since it's exactly for PS3. And yes, what a difference. I feel like I am playing a different game. I remember reading some dev posts on sound engineering and I thought they were smoking something because the game used to sound like some sonic pollution. Now using the headphones I actually do appreciate unique sound signatures of weapons and vehicles. Also the background music is that much more immersive. To ppl who are playing w/o good sound - turns out you are missing out on a huge part of the game.

The sound makes a huge difference, saved myself from many a misfortune by being able to hear someone trying to sneak up on me. Also is nice to be able to figure out where a vehicle is coming in from. It does make the random silent vehicle bug a bit obnoxious, but yeah, the sound is very well done and I love my headset for it.

The audio is very clean overall and pans the room very good. As in its engineered well. Except it on ocassion bugs mute certain aspects randomly. I was just on a cannon and it made no noise at all. The ambient sounds were muffled to. Still blasted 3 nubs tho. I mostly use T Beaches for comms and they sound great, able to hear subtle sounds well.
When theres no one home I can crank 7.2 channel stereo and it truly is amazing with a Denon Avr 5800(170x7 per channel). I was thumping to some serious bass this game has. Its involving with 8 10 inch drivers + 2 12 inch subs, Fully Loaded horns scream as laser shots rip the air. Also tanks and dropships come alive with high volume. They sound way cool and realistic. The intro music was really awesome in surround mode, circling the room, quite trippy! And yes, waaaaay to loud!

Weird, I completely disagree. I too am using the official Sony surround sound headset, and I find the sound design to be particularly underwhelming and immersion breaking.

The sound is not bad, but Dust has nothing on bf3 when it comes to the headphone department. Bf3's sound is by far the best I have heard in a shooter. CCP should aim at one day getting it to that level. I do have to say the sound is much better on Dust than it used to be.

I'd be lying if the sound wasn't one of my draws to this game. I have 5.1 surround sound in my living room, and calling in an RDV is a mind blowing experience.

I do not recommend the Pulse headset.
I am a very careful user, I never drop my stuff, and yet the headset still gave me a problems only a month after I bought it.
It's still working, but my left ear cup started having a higher volume than my right ear cup.
I don't know what did it, but it's fixed now.
And I know it wasn't my ears because I asked a lot of friends and they all told me they hear the difference.

It also stopped connecting to the wireless dongle, so I had to download some software from the American PS STORE (Why they don't have it for the UK, I have no idea) which allows me to tweak the headset and restore it to factory defaults.
I restored it to factory defaults and so far so good.

Just don't buy it, it's not worth the headache at this price point.

I love mine and can not play with out them. I use the 5.1 turtle beach headsets and they help keep me alive and make me points by knowing what direction dropships, tanks and RDV are.

It just sounds really canned. A lot of generic shooter from the 90s choices, coupled with a bit too much compression.

Use the same headset and yes, it's wonderful to use. The headset really helps with the wee tiny sounds. Only big deal for me is that I have very rowdy squads as a squad leader. So half of the time I'm hearing more swears and other gibberish than actual gunfire!

I absolutely agree - I never play FPSs without a headset, the situational awareness is just so much better with them than without. This is particularly valuable when I'm playing a fragile scout, which is 99.7% of the time.

As for Dust in particular, I think the sound is overall good. There are some bugs with disappearing audio that still needs fixing, and I could wish for slightly louder footsteps. Or other movement noises, like rustling of armor (obviously louder the heavier the suit). Perhaps even introduce a skill for silencing armor/footsteps.

See those movement noises I can hear in spite of my tiny bluetooth, I think it's cool that you can hear them climbing up the ladders, even if they think they're being sneaky

I'd have to agree with baal here. I to use the Sony Pulse and find the Audio to be somewhat "cartoony" and occasionally off direction.

Not using this as an opportunity to bash the game but in comparison to other Top FPS titles the fidelity is lacking, I'd almost go as far as to say severely lacking. One thing I notice is the volume of gunfire, vehicles etc does not scale well with distance. It's almost as though you either hear it or you don't. While there is some variation in volume based on range it's not nearly as clearly defined as in BF3 for example. Also I find the indoor echo effects to be....well TBH...Disgusting. Like somebody put a cheap cell phone speaker in a tin can disgusting. On top of that every enclosed space in the game that produces an echo effect does so at the exact same volume and frequency of reverberation.

To the OP, Is this the first and only game you've used a headset with? If so, that could be why it seems so impressive. I would encourage you to try out BF3, or really anyone looking for a truly immersive auditory experience.
