I know, it's almost as if some of us are concerned with how this is a very big change in design direction at a time when CCP claims to want to put balancing on the backburner, despite the fact that this further tips balance in the favor of a few particular playstyles.

Strafe speeds are BS and its not going to help new players at all. Players canstill hidebehind gear no problem, look at any ******* using a Caldari Logi and a Flaylock pistol and Contact grenades.
Suffice to say, strafe speed change has further increased the disparity between shields/armor. This change should have only occured after the two were balanced and even then they should have slowly walked it up instead of making such a vast jump. |

Armor tankers got buffed by new strafe, if anything it's the shield energizer that's making shields superior to armor in terms of survivalbility. |

It's not about being good. It may be because you use the AR and have better accuracy. Using the SR and trying to track these erratic motions of these players is completely unnecessary. No one complained about the strafing speed. There was no need to change it.
CCP probably won't change it back. They probably don't realize that no one asked for it so it didn't need to be changed. |

You obviously know what you're talking about, care to explain to me how armor got buffed by strafe speed? Do you think it's because the passive HP regen will be more useful if you're strafing a lot and negating enemy fire? What about the reduced speed, especially when the % penalties are applying properly to armor plates?
It would seem like less speed in a strafe game is just asking to die a painful death, so I'm actually quite curious to hear your point of view on this particular aspect of it. |

I do have to agree on one thing though, Shield tankers are benefiting from this more than they should while armor tankers are not.
Strafing pre 1.2 wasn't viable and pretty sluggish. 1.2 has finally fixed that and has made for fine and face paced movement. |

Before 1.2, the additional plates hit strafing hard.
While I used the Minmatar Logi back then when the proto had 5.3 movement speed, I made a fit with 500 armor and even though I still had much higher MS than the Heavy (stats on fitting screen), strafing was far slower than the heavy's base strafing speed. Now in 1.2 I tested a fit with 516 armor and 4.51 MS (base is 5.0 MS) and I got to still move faster than the heavy. |

In relation to Shields vs Armor though, do you think that the new strafing speed favors armor as equally as it favors shields? Do you use only basic plates on your test fit, or did you use the new plates to get better speed (since apparently they screw with the stacking penalties)
Also, do you feel that being able to quickly hop side to side is fine as is? If so, why do you feel that it's preferable to having say a slight restriction to rapid back and forth strafe through a slight stamina cost to change directions, or a slight acceleration / deceleration when changing directions. |

I hate the generalizations that people make during these disagreements.
"The only people complaining are the people with high sp and no skillz. Get good" Well, I don't like the new strafing. I still do well in battles and still go positive. It's just the new strafing is ruining CQC. Especially since CCP had changed the Scrambler rifle somehow, to the point where it takes longer to kill people now.
It's also great to see 'good' players be excited about the new change and saying "Get good!!! Now it gives us a chance to be good" Doesn't that make it so new players have even a harder time playing against us? Seems like it's making the new player experience worse |

Strafe speed is fine and does seem more fluid. However, my Heavy's turn speed often cannot keep up with strafers in a CQC scenario.
I am not saying to needlessly buff the HMG or anything of the like. I'd just like an increase in turn speed; that is all. |

CCP Wolfman
Two things: One, in third person mode, moving in all directions results in the same speed. Before 1.2, moving backwards made you move at snail's speed, and sideways at a lower speed.
Two, the reticule size doesn't change between forward and sideways. If strafing was at the same speed as before, then the reticule would change in size. But it doesn't, it stays constant from forward movement to sideways movement. I remember for a fact it changed before. If you don't believe me find Dust 514 footage, JonnyPew would be a good source I think.
Do you guys really QA or do you just open Dust 514, load up a game, and if it doesn't crash you say "Good enough"? |

I dunno man, ive not played in a month or so and comming back in an amarr Assault suit with 401 ish Armor i can strafe faster then i can run forward, it feels like i am on ICE! Played a couple of games and i am pretty impossible to hit until they start chucking Fused Nades at me out of frustration, then it was exit que for me really fast :/
I like strafing on Ice :)
You Definatly fixed allot of aiming issues due to low performance and this strafing speed as KBM user benefits my playstyle tremendously, i folded a 6 man squad singlehandly in cqc gunfight using some figure scating inbetween them like a pro combined with 4 Headshots..before this fix placing a headshot aimed in cqc was like moving trough mud, combined with fast drying cement while being shackled to the floor with chains to hold down a planet thats being sucked into a black hole.
Now, its AIM and BAM..headshot, though i still am gonna need a couple of days to get used to this completely.
Time for me to come out of the MCC retirement Home Camp.
PS: did i mention i like strafing on Ice? |

So, GG.
i wish this was true, but even trying to aim using the HMG people are too fast and the game mechanics through off the aim

I'm in a love - hate relationship with the new strafe
On one hand, the game feels different, new almost. Playstyle is very fast paced now and changed how people play. More skill is involved (questionable)
On the other hand, people are moving at rediculous sideway speeds that it just looks plain stupid. I mean seriously, it looks like the guy is faster running sideways. Seriously. Dont even get me started on speed scouts and their increased shotgun range. The gap between armor and shield tanking just got wider.
My verdict, let the new strafing sink in then pop the question.
CCP Wolfman not knowing how different it is, lol :D |

This is exactly how I feel about it. The game feels smooth and connected (Legato). But when I come across a person that is moving sideways, forward, backward, jumping, falling in all directions, It feels a bit silly.
Since I armor tank, it my movement speed is lower. |

How much Armor on that tank ? i am up to 401 Armor on my Assault suit and i can still get a sprint speed of 6.80 without speed boosters, the new changes to armor stacking made Armor pretty useable. |

Wow, so they increase the strafe speed, you die a couple times using your old fits and then complain about it?
Why not, change your fittings to suit the new strafe speed, I love it personally, yeah, I've died alot over the past couple days getting used to it, but I've also had good rounds of 20+ kills. Vault Mechanics and slightly higher jumps wouldn't go amiss ala Brink or Crysis, but maybe I'm just asking for too much. |

Yep, played a few games last night. Ccp is definately going in the right direction with 1.2
I noticed the increased rates, mainly on others, since they now get to move faster. I play heavy, so this isn't really helping me out when taking about strafing and jumping. I am sure some tweaks need to be done tu the heavy turn speed or something. Before about 20% of the people were strafing and evading bullets in cqc, last night it felt more like 60%+. I fell the hmg is now better for mid ranges, but without the damage output at mid range. Under 20m last night, I had a harder time tracking ennemies than ever before.
Back to forge gun, like when Uprising released. Splash dmg work perfectly now with this gun. Also loove then ranges on every weapon, fell more realistic.
Thumbs up for the patch. Keep on the good work! |

CCP Wolfman What did you guys do to the endurance then? Add a delay? Scouts are sucking pretty bad due to this delay or w/e it is but it seems horrible, the movement is nice but everyone moving the same? This endurance has totally hindered jumping as well is there a plan to fix this an stagger movement so scouts to heavies have a difference between them instead of a unnoticeable difference between classes? |

Man, I wish someone could explain this stuff so people can stop getting unnecessarily butthurt. Yeah, because obviously ONLY shield suits got adjusted at all, because CCP has a vendetta against anyone that armor tanks.
That's clearly the only reasonable explanation. |

CCP why do you lie? It is 2x faster than before because you couldn't double speed without using the kb+DS3 before. This is not normal and you should be ashamed a bug like this went into the game unknowingly.
I mean seriously? Strafing goes faster than going forward and people are moving like they are in a swimming pool?

Either you knew about this, and wants to put it into the game anyway so people can have fun going sideways;
or you didn't know about this at all and truly think this is "normal".
If it is the first case, you are ridiculous, my god, I truly cannot fathom your "CCP logic" seriously.
If it is the second case, you need to fire every single one of your QA testers. And possible devs too. Your team's incompetence is truly shining through, blinding every eye looking into this direction. |
