Well AAA could mean multiple things- AAA for the quality of the models ingame, level design, etc etc. This shooter is clearly an AAA shooter reason why-
Its clearly better then most games out there offering custimization, FPS killing, vehicles, persistants, a reason to kill others. Not some basic shitfuck Call of duty. Its connected with Eve universe so thats a bonus.

One thing about CCP is that they will "aspire" to do something, and then do it really slowly, and then stops at 10%.
This is not something I made up. The history of EVE is full of unfinished ideas. There is simply too many of them.
One example would be "walking in station". Several years ago they started the project, and then worked very slowly.
They finally settled with a character creation, a room to walk in, and nothing else.
The way CCP works: inject hopes and dreams into the player, do a little bit to keep them hooked over a long period of time, and then never finish the idea and leave the player "hoping for more". CCP essentially tell lies to make money. This is an essential part of their business model and they simply don't have the right people to launch an "AAA" title.
I mean look at proper PS4 titles here. These are what REAL games look like. Dust is just a gimmicky FPS that will probably survive by leaching a small amount of loyal player base for a very long time. But it probably won't become mainstream in any sort of way. |

pretty much what I would like to call a "franchise shooter" COD is the most noticeable one, BF is an upcoming one. I think it comes down to how much the game is hpyed up though. Once CCP's marketing program starts getting to work on Air and what not the game will hopefully see a spike in popularity. Truly I feel like a AAA shooter is a shooter that on day 1 has hundreds of thousands playing it. However its hard to say what Day 1 for this game will be (or was). Its a numbers game though and with that.... all we can do is hope CCP makes the game attractive enough to lure in the playerbase it'll need to function properly.
I mean think about it, 7000 + temperate planets with 5 to 24 districts on each one, how many people is needed to fill that much space up?? a lot I would hope..... |

Honestly, from what I've seen of Destiny, it looks like a pretty MMORPG with FPS as its primary fight mechanic.
That's not a bad thing, just different.
On the other hand, Destiny is being created from whole cloth and it shows. For instance, The Hive looks like the most generic space zombie I can think of. I don't yet get the feel of a well-developed world and backstory, i.e.- they don't have a ten-year history and they didn't hire me to do the worldbuilding.
It is also worth noting that Dust can be wildly successful with a tenth of the userbase that Destiny will need to break even. Bungie's bloated a bit since the days of Myth. |

This is the real world and CCP are thriving. Their subscription numbers have never been as high as WOW or SWTOR, but this 1 fact should tell you all you need to know, EVE online is the only MMO out there to have increased it's subscribers every year. And CCP takes things slowly because they want to make things the best they can, would you rather wait 3 weeks to get a feature which is horribly buggy, imbalanced and generally terrible, which then acquires such a stigma that no one will touch it or wait 3 months for a feature that works well had a few problems but nothing horribly bad, and requires a couple of tweaks before becoming one of the most used feature? you know the story of the tortoise and the hare, that's how CCP seem to approach things. |

Many of us are well aware of CCP's history.
Many of use are also aware of the history of those "proper" games' developers.
- Bungie- WTF was Myth III farmed out?! What happened with the promised awesome of ONI? Why did the "AAA" shooter Halo have so many issues as an MMOFPS?
- EA- 'Nuff said about them
- Ad nauseum.
Game companies, like most companies, disappoint.
What is remarkable is that CCP manages to do so much with so little. The graphics shown for Uprising really push the boundaries of the PS3's abysmal hardware limitations. Everyone knows that they are also "secretly" making sure that things like art assets are ready for Unreal Engine 4 and PS4 deployment.
So, really what it comes down to is that Bungie likely heard rumblings of EVE getting a persistent-world FPS when it was first floated years ago and said, "Hey, we could do that!".
The difference is that CCP is already doing it and Destiny can't do crap for real players until the PS4 comes out.
