CCP could say stuff like that as well and also give items away too. But why would they? People know the state of the game we shoudlnt have to be showered with gifts so we say good things. |

I played the beta of defiance, and the amount of bugs on it were ridiculous, it was way worse than dust in my opinion, it doesn't surprise me that trion did that, they had to keep the less faithful members of the playerbase somehow. |

that's only half the point, my complaints on their forums don't get moved and locked. People aren't getting banned for speaking their mind even if the message is negative.

You have it backwards. The guys who made Defiance were giving those rewards out for making mistakes on their part. Not so that people would say nice things.
The bigger point here is that a dev came out, apologized for making errors, and offered two patch dates, as well as a reward for their early adopters who had to suffer through the growing pains.
That is how a dev takes care of their community, in a open, clear fashion.
So yes, CCP could take a hint from them. |

I complained many many times about almost everything. I've never been banned and none of my topics has been locked. Maybe it's just a matter of *how* you complain. |

Both are taking real money right?
If I had to choose which Dev response I would want, the one from the guys at Trion is vastly superiour to the treatment CCP gives us.

Who said anything about a refund?
All I said was that both groups are accepting real money, and the treatment from Trion regarding problems with their product was better, as I see it.
Further, I don't care about refunds, either for my merc packs that they changed the terms on or anything else.
But if we look at this strictly from which developer handled a problem better, compare this situation to the one with the Merc pack refunds.
Trion came out, posted an apology letter and offered consolation gifts.
CCP says nothing, offers some hamfisted replies that only serve to muddle the issue, and then shuts up on it.
So yes, one developer is doing a MUCH better job of interacting with the community base, and keeping those people happy.

How does that have any impact on the developer/customer relationship? How is that even remotely related to what is being discussed here?

Lol wow, you're quite hostile. They don't owe you anything, they don't have some grand failure to apologize and make up for like Trion does; even if Dust is a crappy game by launch, it is still free, and spending money is voluntary. Unless they sell you a defective product, they don't have to apologize for anything, or give you any special gifts. The game is completely free, how is that for a developer/consumer relationship? |

You are correct, they don't owe me anything.
However, what they want is my money.
Trion, if I had any interest in their game, would be doing a better job of convincing me to invest in the long term with those types of actions.
Pointing out that the game is free to play doesn't change the fact that it is a business venture, and Trion is handling dealing with their customers better.
As with any MMO, FPS or otherwise, how you deal with your customers is a huge part of the project. I am starting to think that there are too many CCP fan boys around for them to be a really good developer. They don't get enough constructive feedback because of brown nosers yelling everyone down.
EDIT:
For your edit Horned wolf:
My argument had nothing to do with a refund. It was strictly about the dev communicating well with their community, and being forthright with information and an admittance of problem. And how that response to a problem was better than the typical no response, or soon BS we get from CCP.
I said nothing further, and you insinuations for such belong in the same place you got you mail away hairkeeping certificate. In the trash. |

Me and many others got a bunch of skinweave BPOs, and bunch of other cool special edition stuff from CCP for free. How is Trion handling their customers better? They both give free stuff, but CCP didn't make you endure a terrible bug-filled launch (yet). |

But just for the record....CCP doesn't need to issue a formal apology. We just want results...and I have to say that they have gotten better.
They actually responded to questions and feedback on planetary conquest thread...they got rid of the daily skill point system and allowed the community to choose, etc, etc.
They just need to get rid of cloaking and we'll be straight :) |

Why are you so focused on stuff?
I don't care about items, and given the manner in which CCP gives out crap, I wouldn't be able to use or trade them anyway.
My point was that Trion was being more clear in their communication regarding an issue, and more forthright in their communications with the playerbase.
Both of those issues were brought up in the letter from the CEO from 2011.
So, once again, this is not about the stuff, but rather the manner in which the whole thing was conducted. |

I wrote that before you pointed out that your issue was with communication. Guess you didn't see the edit, so I'll paste it here.
If you don't think CCP communicates, you're clearly mistaken. They post weekly responses to feedback/requests in dedicated threads, and they do it also for bugs. They frequently stop by in the public Dust514 IRC channel to talk to players, and discuss future changes. If Trion's example of communicating when things are desperate is the standard for good dev communication, then that is a very low standard; one that CCP already surpassed since things don't have to go horribly wrong to get answers. Oh, and there are also devblogs they release to explain features that are coming, and corresponding Q&A threads about the features where they answer your question. If you think CCP doesn't communicate well with its consumers, you must not be looking very hard.
Also post 15 has nothing to do with refunds. You brought up the fact that both games are taking money, and I was explaining why that argument is crap.
If you're so blind that you don't notice all the ways CCP communicates with us, then this is pointless. I'm done. Cry some more about a nonexistent communication issue. |

Have you actually seen and played Defiance or seen the commercials to the tv show tie-in? I don't know which one is buggier, has worse graphics, voice actors, and story. The show might outlast the game, but that's only because SyFy was obviously duped...er- convinced into buying two seasons. In the end, they're going to have to do a lot more than apologize. |

Maybe when you look at the fact that DUST is already in a better state than Defiance was on release, it looks like less of an imperative to offer free stuff like they already have and are continuing to do. What is the obsession with items, as if they are the end all?
I think some of you lot are a little too obsessed with stuff. So much so that you turn my comments, which have almost nothing to do with items of any sort, into a give me more stuff rant, which baffles me.
The funny thing is that those items that we are getting for the event are mostly unusable. I have no SP into anything other than my heavy, and even the heavy week is a joke. So all that stuff is just further numbers on a page. That I can't use or sell, or even give to a friend.
The funny thing is, no one on here would be able to give me any idea when we are getting trading, because the devs are not saying. Just like the rest of what is missing from here.

What are the Defiance devs giving their players as "rewards" for putting up with a botched launch? Stuff? Or some variety of magical "not stuff"?
This thread is showing off that the Defiance devs are giving players stuff. We're pointing out that CCP have given THEIR players MORE stuff. I don't see the point in CCP apologising to us that the beta isn't currently in the state it should be by the time we're no longer in beta. With Defiance, which actually IS no longer in beta, it's reasonable to expect an apology when the game isn't in a state fit for release. It's nice to see, but it would be better to see a game released in a ready-for-release state.
I don't own a magic crystal ball, and if I did, I doubt I'd use it (too many risky side effects), but I'm fairly sure DUST will be in better condition on release than Defiance was.
If there's a valid reason for CCP to apologise after release, I'm actualy pretty sure they'll be apologising.
EDIT: Also, what variety of Heavy fits do you run that don't include Armour Repairers, suits, HMGs or Forge Guns? I can understand being confused by Swarm Launchers, and think with how most players run their Heavies that Laser Rifles would have been a better option, but there aren't many options that go without all those things and still fit the title "Heavy"... |

Please point to one instance where I demanded an apology. Since I didn't, I think we can move past that point.
I'm not going to carry this on any further, as obviously, you guys seem content with how CCP is running this boat, so no sense wasting keystrokes. I already covered the items matter, because it has nothing to do with my argument, even if you think that is why the OP posted this.
To the Edit:
Armor Repairers? So I should downgrade from my 5 hp/s to 3? This helps me how? MH-82 Machine Gun? Why? The Boundless is better for tryharding, the standard is better for cost cutting. 9K330 Forge gun? If you think getting this is some sort of prize, you obviously haven't seen enough good forge gunners. Real heavies use Assault Forge Guns, or they suck it up and go for their Gastuns. A-Series Suits? Alright, this one I cannot dispute, I run A series alot, so it is nice to get 12 free.
Maybe CCP thought this event was for the veterans, and then decided to give us garbage gear out of trolling. Or they thought these gifts would be a nice present to new players without realizing that there are almost none of those around. Either way, the whole event is mostly irrelevant to me, as there are only three days rewards that might be appealing to me.
Not that I mind free swag, but I could totally do without it. I really hope that players in other classes get more use out of their rewards.
