'Disclaimer: This piece is unlike anything you will normally see on our blog. But in response to a particularly disgusting email we recently received under the guise of news, we felt the need to address the seeking out and publishing of intensely private and personal info by some in the playerbase. This is a form of cyber-stalking and will never be welcome on our blog.
Our blog has often been accused of being a gossip rag and of trying to foster conflict between certain groups. Our response is always the same. 'We report the new of New Eden.' Point of fact, New Eden does not include the personal lives of the people behind the many online avatars. In gaming, there's a line that should not be crossed and it starts with anything that ventures into the real lives of players. Recently we have seen a rash of Dust & EVE conflicts that have spilled over into the real world and we find this both disgusting and unbelievable. Some of you have lost your way.'

The fact that someone had to say something like this shows how absolutely insane some people get about their games. |

I'm glad this was written. There definitely needs to be a line drawn between reality and the game, and it needs to be taboo to cross it. Anyone who goes to far needs to get serious consideration for a permanent ban from the game. |

Not just saying this, great article.
Thank you dustmercs for posting such an important message. Keep Dust and eve contained, if you feel the need to further yourself in a game by finding personal information then you are the scum of the Earth. |

Dusters, thanks for bringing this issue up. Have you reached out to the targets to let them know someone out there has a vendetta against them? If not, I hope you do. It's good to be informed. |

I've tried to read your blogs before but your website layout has always been a put off for me.... this one I read to the end and agree 100% might even look through some of your old blogs and see if there is anything else there.... games are an escape from R/L no one other then your close clan mates/online friends should ever overlap with real life. |

That is just... sad. Those politicians think they can somehow figure out how to raise a parent's kid better than the parent? Morons. I don't care if those politicians have kids of their own. It's still the responsibility of the parent to raise the child properly, not government.
Also, the games that the politicians seem to point at are games like Call of Duty, Halo, Battlefield, etc. where the storylines suggests that the user is shooting for mere survival or saving a country from an oppressive government. Not shooting innocent people just for being on the top of the scoreboard.
Another thing. If the shooter sees innocent children as nothing more than killstreaks to collect, then that shooter is already messed up on the head and no amount of regulation of video games will stop him from just deciding to mimic Columbine. If you look at the shooters, they are typically all crazy guys who suffer from mental illnesses.

lol...General....you must be amiss to the history of these proceedings. The MAG-based community has found this blog funny to read for quite some time, but when they decided to label my blog as a "fake" and a "shame", I thought it was funny...seeing as how we did nothing to provoke it. That, along with some other lame posts, started the drama of them being a "tabloid".

But whatever, you're right....they do have a good point here.....finally. But really...does it really need to be said that the sexual preferences of gamers is not news? I mean...come on...... |

Oh, I was unaware of the history there, didn't know I was stepping into a beef.
Most of their blog is useless, but they made a good post, so +1 to them.
Like I said in my first post, it is a sad state of affairs that something like this even needs to be said, but it does, and I am glad someone said it.
Eve side, people go to crazy lengths about wanting to know who you are, to the point of ridiculous invasions of privacy. Once that mindset gets into Dust, I am out of here. So here is to hoping people remember that games are games, and to keep the playing apart from the real world. |

Actually, the vast majority of Eve players are very strict about keeping gaming and real-life issues separate as they know all too well the dangers of crossing the thin line. As noted during the case of the 'Drunk Mittani' during Fanfest 2012, many players rallied to help the player with the alleged suicidal thoughts to keep him from doing anything rash after being flooded with "kill yourself" messages. |

Well, that is a good piece of news indeed. The last time I was interested in joining up with a well known corp Eve side was before that event, and the amount of information they were requesting was obscene.
Glad to hear some sense is taking hold. |

And this is why you need strong leaders in the corps/alliance. Expect a lot of underhanded tactics from gamers who have nothing better to do themselves. And members need to talk to their leaders if they are being harassed so that their leaders can take appropriate actions. |

Goonswarm does have good leadership. The Mittani, after sobering up and realizing his mistake, posted a public announcement apologizing to the community and to the alleged suicidal person in question for what he did. A clear cut example of why you should avoid getting too drunk at all costs.

As much as I would like to think this is perfect world;- it is not. It would make a good feel good factor for the alliance members if they had someone to talk to. Publicly displaying private information by gamers is not uncommon. Over here is the states its punishable by jail time. Not sure about other countries.
However if someone did post my private information, I wont bother calling the cops. All I need to is call my lawyer and settle this in a civil suit. More money over there
