Immortal mercenaries,
For five years a wall of Caldari steel has sat in orbit of the besieged planet of Caldari Prime. The Gallente who still reside there cower in its shadow, held to ransom on the whim of Caldari State Executor, Tibus Heth.
Soon, it will be time for you to show your worth, and display your prowess on the battlefield. You've all come so far, and the time draws closer when you will truly begin to assist your immortal brethren in the skies, capsuleers, in shaping the political landscape of New Eden.
A storm is coming, and when it arrives your actions could either assist in maintaining a fragile stability, or usher in a new era in politics that will resonate across every world in New Eden.
You can read more about the storm that is brewing here.
Lock and load.

heading toward launch doesn't make it not a beta. Many things were complained about, it was said "still beta" and have been fixed.
CCP has also said the next build seems like a different game. So even if the next build is the launch, it is improved from now, making comment still valid. It was also said multiple builds would be in open beta, so I doubt next build will be launch. At least one more beta build, probably 2-3.
If game launches in another year, it is still moving toward launch now. Moving toward doesn't equal now or even SOONGäó just means they are going in right direction and can see eventual end of beta. |

As a Caldari, you should still believe that we, Caldari, should rightfully control our ancestral homeworld of Caldari Prime; however, should Heth slip up and either lose this planet, or order the Shiigeru to attack the homeworld, it will be reason enough for a full-on coup by the megacorporations, citizens, and anti-Heth Capsuleers and Mercs. At the end of the day, we still want to control Caldari Prime.

I would like to see what ccp uses to have the players take part in the plot. What info they use to get the outcome or is it all ready written and we don't really influence anything?

IIUC, they have Devs and/or GMs monitoring the battle outcomes and watch the forums to decide the next step based on a flow chart-like system that the storyline people have mapped out. However, weird stuff often happens.
The UFO sighted by some mercs the other day was probably one possibility that they had expected could happen. There could be others.
It is worth noting, though, that when they did storyline events for The Empyrean Age, they actually blew up an existing station and some people actually lost in-game assets that were in it when it blew.
This event is possibly that epic and historical. |

Where the idea is cool and i appreciate the events that are going live...
Im still stuck in the "Why do I care exactly?" mode after playing a merc game to get free stuff.
And the answer is basically that I dont care. Because I cant pick sides, Im just randomly assigned to a team. What if i happen to have a personal grudge against the Caldari? why am I helping them? (considering the Gallente would pay me just as much and its unprofessional to throw a match)
I know its coming (and im looking forward to it), but until then the events are simply cool in theory, and i certainly appreciate free stuff that can sit in some storage locker somewhere.. but for the most part ill just go and play normal games instead.

one would hope that for such an historical event, it would span an entire week, allowing all who play dust to take part of which have (heaven forbid) real life commitments on a friday and weekend in all time zones.
It is not as if something like this would be.. okay peeps of caldari prime, we are going to throw you down there to shoot each other for 12 hours and then those who have done so get a drop suit for altering their life.
In terms of the last event I was part of for the black eagle drop suit - those of us in New Zealand had a window between 3am on saturday morning to 11am give or take - which for those with no life or dependent children is not prime time so i guess it is fine but man did I take **** for participating.
Just consider ALL the people spending "their" time playing your currently free game and very beta game of which passively are giving you performance metrics and real live information to base your decisions moving forward on and then reward those people for that time by allowing EVERYONE to participate in pre-release special events which shape the game for the future.
Just a thought.

With current game build (possibilities) it is impossible to make it (choose sides) for such mass event. So when you chose battle in merc tab, it randomly throws you for one or another side, and you randomly may play like 4-6 times in a row for Caldari or Gallente.
And galletians have only light assault dropsuits ("scouts") :))) it's a discrimination! |

Little bit of history
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXWf-l71MY4
Caldari Prime was invaded by the Gallente more than a hundred years ago, and 5 years ago the Caldari got it back and put a Titan to watch over it.
Today, we have civil unrest, we have our fights to desestabilize the Caldari on the planet, and it seems things are escalating quickly and we-¦ll have a huge fight with all the parties that have an interest on the planet.
As a Minmatar, i know what is like to have your home taken away from you, and i will do whatever it takes so that people don-¦t have to suffer it a second time.
Me and my friends, fellow mercs and capsuleers, are going to help the Caldari to maintain their rightfully control of their homeplanet.
Let-¦s hope we don-¦t get another sacrifice like the one Admiral Yakiya Tovil-Toba did to secure the safety of his population, for should a supercarrier or a titan do something to the planet, there will be no planet left do something about. |

Not exactly. The Caldari people were duped by the megacorporations into surrendering their place in the Federation so that their rich oligarchs could keep getting richer.
The Gallente gave the Caldari space technology (as they also did with the Intaki, Mannar, and Jin Mei). The Caldari megacorps chose to abuse that gift in secret and then threw a fit when the Federation that they supposedly supported tried to get them to act responsibly.
The "invasion" of Caldari Prime was undertaken to protect civilians after Caldari rebels killed nearly a million people by flooding an underwater city.
The Federation did not start the outbreak of violence. That was all the doing of Caldari extremists. |

There is plenty of room for the Caldari Will, just not for rich oligarchs who rewrite the laws to suit themselves and then threaten violence when somebody stands up to them.
The Caldari are a strong, proud, and capable people. They do deserve a peaceful homeworld in Luminaire.
Unfortunately, the Caldari State will never allow that to happen. It is too much in the interests of the megacorp CEOs to keep us all at war. The State was born to permit them free reign to oppress their own people, and they will lie, cheat, and steal to maintain the illusion that obedience to the State is somehow an expression of Freedom.
I long for the day when the Caldari rejoin us in the Federation (and when Intaki is hisec...).
Then maybe I can eat fast food in peace without getting called a traitor. |

Entrerpeneurship and economic expansion got the Caldari in a place where the Federation wouldn-¦t be beneficial to them.
Protect by bombarding the planet? I think our definitions are a little discrepant.
And yes, the attack on Nouvelle Rouvenor was indeed an atrocity.

I would love to see choosing sides with different rewards as an outcome, which I imagine will happen with contracts. For game events like this one, it would be as simple as choosing a side and then getting the suits associated with that side (which would require you to get locked out of choosing the other side, otherwise people would have to play at least once for each side to get all the rewards). But for other instances, you might have the option of getting more ISK, or getting items (not necessarily rare items), or more faction points, e.g., Caldari are offering 100 faction points and 250k ISK, Gallente are offering 250 faction points and 150k ISK. |

Before you sounded like you were telling other people they aren't allowed to think for themselves and have a preference, and that because we're mercenaries, we shouldn't care. But then you said you're looking forward to having the option everyone else is wishing we already had.
Saying "it's coming, and until it does, just enjoy what you have" is a very different argument to "but you shouldn't care about that".

More 'Mercenary Battles' for the Euro crowd i see. 18:00 - 22:00 GMT surely is not aimed at the North American based players.
I'd like to know if this will continue to be the trend. I'm already one 'Merc Pack' in on this game, and im considering buying another one. But seriously this Euro-centric skewed timing of Merc Battles is really grating to the teeth!
Edit: i appreciate CCP is Europe based, but at least hire a few server managers in North America so we can enjoy some of these events, if staying up is beyond the staff compliment in Europe. |

I would like to be able to choose sides as I plan on Rping my character and dont want past conflicts coming up in my bio that may make me look bad to future allies and contacts. If I am given the opportunity to choose I can only blame myself for the choices that I make or have made.If the choices we make will effect the landscape I simply put to you. What choice?
In the future I would like to see a que for side A or side B then when a match comes up the server would join me to that side. Some dont care which side they fight for but you say choices I see none other than quitting match after match until I get the side I want to play for. Please reply if I should be using the a fore mentioned method top establish this "choice" that I have, and if this is the method you would like us to use please state that to the community so we can see how you can go about changing that.Lets get those Ideas flowing in this thread.
P.S some of the other ps players may not know the significance of some of these matches or dont care but some of us do.Ive been reading Evelopidia for the past month like its my job.Fighting against the State and Tiberious Heth is a rather significant battle one that I would think that should have a little more lead up time to.
I mean for example "Hey guys this weekend the Minmitar set there sights on Amarr Prime.....Lock and load" .huh what? |

Point me in the right direction that states that there will NOT be region specific merc battles. Because as far as I see unless a merc battle is open to the global community (as was the case with Caldari prime) then it is only offered at the convenience of the European players.
I fail to see why the game being in beta (damn good game tho it may be) affects the times that these merc battles are offered. If anything I'm pissed when I'm at work and being a good soldier, checking the forum periodically for updates, I see that a mercbattle will be offered, and will END just 1hr b4 I get home. #sucks! |

There won't be region specific times for battles. Instead, there will be battles around the clock. If another corp wants to fight at 4am GMT, then there'll be a fight at 4am GMT. If they want a fight at 6pm GMT, there'll be a fight at 6pm. Kay? |

Ok.I Get that corp battles are more time flexible, I was more grousing about the sheduled times for merc battles. I however was unaware of the 4am gmt battles, so thanks for that. I suspect that this game is big in asia also, considering the number of japanese squads I played yesterday (late morning admittedly). So they should be considered too. |

Jamstar, there's an asian region. A battle cluster dedicated solely for China, as they have their own dedicated EVE server. I'm not so sure about the Japanese. |

CCP, could we please have the results from yesterday's event(2013.03.36)? Seeing as it appeared to be an extension of the weekend event, a lot of people would like to know who now holds control. |

Wait what? So the Caldari won the ground fight (HELLS TO THE YEAH) but what is happening in space? Are we being blockaded? Are Caldari Fleets en route to secure the system once again? Are the Gallente bringing in weapons of mass destruction to end the possibility of Caldari returning to their homeland?

That's right mercs, the Caldari State holds the ground on Caldari prime (Glory for the State!) but the Caldari Navy fleet above has been wiped out. Remember the Shiigeru! |
