what the hell?
what are the clans supposed to do:
stand still and not shoot you?
then you guys will be ok and will stay but if you lose, you'e gonna quit?
y'know what:
i take it all back.
this game ONLY needs players who know what they are doing. it doesn't need casuals.
it'll be fine without them.
and the real players will be even finer.

This is the one topic I am not a fan of the "qq more" answer since it is a legitimate fault with the game design. Yeah, a no pre-formed squad option is a must, especially since 6 man squads are coming soon. Even when I run solo and there is 2 or 3 other decent players on my side, we dominate the heck out of the other team most of the time, and none of us are even communicating with eachother. We all do our own thing, and before you know it, steamroll. So with pre-formed squads of decent players that are communicating and trying to work as a team, it is even more devastating. Coupled with the new ambush spawning, it is even worse now. I say let those who squad up, play against other squads of players. Matches are much more fun that way anyway. Also they still need to work out the kinks in matchmaking regarding balancing out teams. I still see too many lopsided matches. It's either me and a bunch of name-brand players going up against a full team of newberries, or I am on the team of newberries vs all the experienced players.
Why does everyone seek to create "balance" by limiting the sandbox??
Input type SP limit Gear restriction
Solo vs squad
These thing divide the player base which is small enough as is and makes the game harder and longer to find apporpriate matches.
The clear answer is to improve the matchmaking algorithm so rather that when it creates a lobby, it takes one squad and then the next squad on opposite teams. Thats the base it should then compare relative SP of each squad and add the next 2 squads based on that ratio. It then needs to compare individual players and smaller than 4 man groups and wait to place them on a side until it compares the SP's of either side.
This creates a slower matchmaking process but it will create a better balance without restriciton.
Point is you can have a rapid fast matchmaking system and still hope the matches will be balanced.
Thats the part people cant seem to wrap their heads around.
Unless you go the way of KZ2 and create server lists. (personally i prefer this) give the option to the user where they play and let them see what the filters are on the match. Combine that with a instant placement option where the game will select a game in progress for you at random based on room. |

This is way off topic, but being an older guy and seeing what they teach my kids now...there's a lot of "You're all special, unique winners! YOU get a trophy, YOU get a trophy, EVERYONE GETS A TROPHY!"
Guess what? No, you're not special. You're probably not a winner. Not everyone gets a trophy.
For there to be winners, there have to be losers. My kids know this, but it looks like some people never got this message that they so desperately need.
Stop whining, get better. If it was easy and everyone was equal, people would get bored fast and just leave.
I don't know when people went from "wow that guy's good...maybe if I work at it I can be as good as him" to "f that guy, I need to tear him down to make this playing field level!"
Success is about hard work a perseverance, not having it handed to you. HTFU! |

I remember in college they had shirts from a company called "No Fear" that said "Second place is the first loser". What happened to that attitude? Exactly im in my 30"s i was good at math and science, not so good at sports. I never expected mercy or asked for it i just kept working at and got better.
Fact is you learn from failure not from success. Success and "validation" creates complacency and a false sense of accomplishment and unneeded ego.
Failure either cause people to quit out of frustration and give up. Personally i can care less for those people and hope that in time they are selected out of the population through lack of reproduction. The others view failure as a learning opportunity to improve and get better and "EVOLVE".
Its not justa a problem in video games its a global societal problem that is making us all weaker as a species.
Sigh altruism has its limits, a little selfish gene theory needs to take over.

In order for the game to survive it needs to expand beyond a niche market that hones in on a core group of players it needs to appeal to much wider audience. With such a small player base already the attitude needs to improve that while in life people win and people lose, I've taught my daughters that as well. In the video game world it is not like that if you want to be a profitable company.
Case in point Halo 4 went from a even arena based shooter to borrowing elements from other FPS games. The original core niche group hates the game but it is constantly 4th on XBL. It diverged from its original model to survive in such a competitive market. If Dust is to have any good population size that justifies keeping the servers open it will need to compete against games like Destiny, Halo 5/6, Defiance and whatever else is coming down the pipe.
If it cannot compete it cannot survive. I for one love the game and won't stop playing, but I am intelligent and reasonable enough to understand that the game needs to appeal to a wider audience. |

And it will once they get high low and nullsec territories to entice vets into more profitable pub games while leaving newbies and solo players to play in more secure areas.
It will get here who knows when. It needs to get here sooner than later i agree. But for now this is what we have. Any other fixes to try create the balance simply is nonsensical and the wrong approach.
You cant make decisions out of desperation you have to attack the problem correctly.
The highsec/lowsec/nullsec zones are the correct and best method for this type of balance while still maintaining the sandbox. |

The point is CCP is a business, how does a business survive? By maintaining profitability and that cannot happen when much of your player base abandons the game you worked so hard on a lot quicker than expected because of the mentality of experienced players. "It happened to us and we learned" "We are not stomping you, we're helping you get better" "QQ more" That will not help Dust survive. Personally coming from EVE I don't mind so much, it does have its frustrating moments but it also as its rewarding moments. Again though I fall into the small niche of gamers that will play anyway, but it is to small a niche for Dust to remain viable.
Hmmm.....don't mean to generate hate or anything but you should just really stop. You're making the Imperfects look like a bunch of snotty kids who got nothing else to do.
From a beginner's viewpoint (I'm not a beginner, just to clarify), if I saw the very first couple of matches that I come into with a lot of players on the other side wearing proto gear, I know I personally wouldn't play the game very long due to the fact emptying a whole magazine into them did nothing while 2 bullets killed the new person. It is extremely difficult for "noobs" to "get guud" when they keep dying in a couple of bullets while they themselves can barely dish out damage. How do you expect them to get better if they can't accumulate a good amount of SP without them getting curb stomped by pro corps and players all the time?
Skill is skill. However, there is limits to skill and going militia against proto gear is near suicide. (Well there are rare instances where militia does beat proto-wearing players. I.E. militia sniper, shotgun, etc.) |

And everyone QQed and the devs flattened the weapons and made them closer together and took away the heatlh bumps you got for going into higher level suits.
Its not our fault that the games lack of content is killing the pubstomp arena. So we should just play the game in regular gear to make everyone else feel better. Sorry but im not going use anything less than advanced. It just not how i like to play pubs. I play them that way specifically to test the limits of my fittings for CB. so it has a purpose for me. I used to use lower gear thinking it was like training with weightbands, it really isnt if anything im more careful in expensive gear because i dont want to lose it.
But you're right CCP's lack of content and ability to attract Vets away from the pubstomp arena is the same issue that every shooter thats has failed in the last year or so has had.
At this point im just keeping up my SP and playing to hang with my buddies. If Defiance has any bit of content and a polished shooter im gone and will let my character collect dust on the shelf.
So as much as newbies are likely to quit us "vets" already have one foot out the door at this point soooo..... |
