LOL. Do you even check a players stat before you tell them to get better or stop sucking or kill efficiently? Go check my stats up sonny boy. And as far gaming is concerned I have seen it and done it all. 8080, 8088, XTs, ATs;- seen it all. That however is far far away from why Dust is Eons away from Eve. I checked your stats before hand and still posted it, your KDR only shows me that you don't die allot. It doesn't say if its because you are playing with a dedicated squad, hiding in a tank are redline sniping, or switching of your PS3 if something happens out of your control. Ive not seen you on any battle myself but if we ever do, the only thing i can go by is your QQ about getting behind on the SP curve.
Well Rei, I could easily accuse you of the same thing.

switching of your PS3 if something happens out of your control : Shows you know nothing about competetive gaming. You dont win games by switching off your PS3 LOL!

While I won't tell you that you know nothing about how to build a game like DUST, I will say that you probably don't know as much as the team CCP has assembled to do it.
Your assertion that CCP is using the same team for both EVE and DUST is wrong. They have different people working on EVE than they do on DUST.
Your assertion that because EVE is good, DUST should be just as good from the get-go is just as wrong. You cannot make a world-class bottle of wine, and then be expected to build your own high-performance sports car as well. DUST and EVE, as connected as they are, are both different products. CCP has had a long time to get things right with EVE, and even then they still make mistakes (see: Incarna). Expecting them to be able to transfer their skill with EVE to DUST is dumb. EVE is not an FPS. It is a sandbox space-ship MMO.
It is difficult to produce even a good FPS by itself. For every Battlefield or MW we have, there is a Homefront, Medal of Honor, or Black Ops: Declassified. Yes, you could say the FPS elements of DUST are currently lacking. But when you throw in the vehicles, OBs, the logistical/support roles, the market, fitting customization, and the social metagame of it all, you can see that, as things stand, DUST is already a unique MMO, even for one in early beta.
And then there's the connection with EVE. There's literally been no other game like what DUST 514. There's no one CCP can consult for "how to do things the right way," because they're blazing the trail here. Yes, CCP has/will make mistakes with DUST. I'd expect them to. No one has done this before. Accusing them of not having their act together on Day One is just stupid, because this game is as much a learning process for them as it is a business venture. |

That it will.
Skill up in mining. Now THERE is patience.
To address your initial point, the two games are also based on different engines. EVE is based on Carbon (CCP's in-house engine) and Dust is based on Unreal.
I have heard (not confirmed) that early Dust plans were to use Carbon because it had a lot of the stuff already built in and they knew how it worked. Once they realized that the available consoles couldn't handle it, they switched to Unreal and that set the development of many of the features back.
In order to get around this, CCP opened a completely new development office in Shanghai (so not the same devs) to allow those people to focus on Dust without impacting EVE development. My guess is that a lot of the FPS basics worked just fine in-house, even on PS3 hardware.
Once they connected to Singularity, which was optimized for Carbon- all hell broke loose. Suddenly, things that worked fine in-house lagged, misapplied, etc. They spent most of a year fixing that (and killed Skirmish 1.0 in the process).
Once that seemed pretty stable, they ported it over to the big gun- Tranquility. TQ is a much larger server cluster, so they figured that with things mostly optimized on Sisi, moving to TQ would bring MOAR POWER (sorry, Tim Allen) to the party. Unfortunately, TQ is also a much more complex environment that is tied into things like 3,000 ship space battles.
They can Time Dilate space battles, but not FPS action. That must've created a whole other batch of headaches.
Meanwhile, the accountants are tapping CCP's senior management on the back, glaring at them, and saying "You told us this would be making money six months ago!"
I absolutely feel your pain, Mr. Archon. I really want Dust to be the game that they told us about. Maybe it's all those years of mining Veldspar talking, but I feel like they are doing pretty good for building the most complicated MMOFPSRPG ever attempted. If they had just made an FPS without any of the EVE tie-ins, it would probably be a lot smoother by now.

By this logic then Eve has been around/in development for 15 years as I think I was in beta for Eve back in 2000-2001 and had been watching the game for about a year before that, making Eve and all of its polish older then some of the people playing the big brother to this game. |

Read the post from Vaerana Myshtana. Now thats someone who understands the complexity of developing a game and understands from a gamers perspective too. That was the kind of reply I was looking for because it purely makes sense. Nothing beats cold hard facts and applying your common sense to it. |

Like i said dust stats, SP and even bringing up your PC's stats to run EVE all seem very important to you...what i don't understand is if you have played all those "competitive" FPS on PC all these years, why didn't you have a rig to play EVE with in the first place ?
I mean EVE i could run it 3 times at once on a Nvidia 9600 GT from 5 years ago when i blew up my Crossfire Ati 5970 setup, though i could not run any of my shooter games properly while i was waiting for my 680 GTX. |

Eve online has been out for over 10 yrs and that diamond you see to day was at one time a dull rock only with the undieing love from the Eve players and CCP did it become this diamond you see today ,
in ture dust 514 will be just as good but like Eve it need CCP and player love that can last over the yrs .
players need look at the game and see its not just any FPS but a fps that do,s Everything ! from FPS - MMO-RTS-RPG-SG and FS its a game thats never ends and will never end as long as the players support the game with new ideas and better ways to improve game play . CCP needs not the F up and rush pachs and builds into the game unless its fully tested and THE PLAYERS WANT IT !! (Month of rage ring a bell! ) and work with players to fined out what the hell they want from you ! and what CCP can do to make the game more fun ! |

You, OP, are actually the target market for CCP CCP developed Dust for the PS3 instead of PC, as they wanted New Eden to reach a broader and different market audience.
I won't repeat what others have said more eloquently about development pace etc. but just wanted to state that your PC is way overpowered if it's only for EVE At least it'll last you for the next 3-5 years if you only use it for EVE and basic stuff.
Some stuff about EVE I'm sure you'll have read about somewhere, but if not: 1. Don't fly what you can't afford to lose (emotionally): Similar to Dust, you lose your ship (suit) and fittings when you die. However, ships in EVE can be as throwaway as Dust, or can cost up to tens of billions.
2. The time-based SP progression doesn't limit players in what types of activities they can do, it merely limits their effectiveness at a particular activitiy This is pretty similar to Dust in a way so yeah.
3. A lot of newbies in EVE think that they'll 'pwnface' with a good character (you can buy skilled up characters in the character bazaar portion of forums, especially with PLEX), or that they should train skills AFK to maybe one day be competitive (especially in PVP). This is a mistake. Someone who has been playing actively in PVP will beat an older CHARACTER (not player) despite having less skillspoints, since experience+knowledge>all
4. Join a player corp. A good corp, not a newbie corp, where even the CEO himself is new to the game. Look for 'newbie friendly' corps, that have vets providing advice to newbies.
5. It's cheaper to PVP for a new player, less expensive fittings/ships available to them, cheaper clones (mine cost 20-30mil a pop now, hence why I hardly fly disposable ships, increasing the cost of ships I PVP in to make them last longer).
6. A lot of the basic mindset you learn in Dust transfers over to EVE, and vice versa.

I'm sorry OP but I cringed sooo bad at this part. I gotta reply on behalf of the pc user community or ill explode. Ill make points to avoid an otherwise long read - its 1 six-core i7 processor - you got the sony vaio (apple equivalent) of customizable pc's -could've gotten same setup (all same parts with different case) for around 1100 bucks (i checked) and the expense of DIY - todays low end budget pc's ($300) can run eve on low-mid settings
Now that I've gotten that done, I just want to say judging from the rest of your read I'd say that so far, CCP is doing quite a great job at bridging eve and dust together. They got ya good. |

actually the point they making Arch is that BOTH EVE and DUST started off like **** DUST is new for CCP being an FPS so its gonna take time and ur playing a 10 year old EVE that has been constantly upgraded over time u cant compare the state of EVE 10 years after they 1st made it to the current beta state of DUST.
If u want to make a good comparision then compare DUST 10 years after launch to EVE at 10 years and gauge the levels of progress the 2 made.
Watching how EVE started looks exactly like how DUST started tbh....like ****. CCP has never made a FPS before so cant judge a game they had 10 years to refine (and back then it was their 1st space MMO i believe) to their 1st FPS game and on console which is terribly outdated and has limitations. |

If CCP has any sort of code and config management they will know how not to use code that does not work and use code that works.
wow if this isnt the most nonsensical reply... you tell someone the past is the past let it remain buried yet you are pointing out the game CCP developed IN THE PAST as your basis to say that Dust is not as polished. Do you actually logically think through the crap you are spewing before you type it....oh no sorry probably not cause that would be the past and we know how you feel about that.
if you like eve great play it and realize that Dust is being developed by the same company and therefore based on PAST performance alone Dust should be just as awesome when it is completed in the FUTURE.

Sentient Archon wrote:So after being trolled in Dust and then returning the favor to my fellow dusters, I decided to try out Eve. My reason for doing so;- is to make those QQers QQ more by dropping a **** load of OBS on them. I didnt know what to do and didnt have a clue about how to go about it. A friendly post and some nice replies from my fellow Eve pilots I decided to take the plunge. Equipment: Alienware with 32 GB of RAM and 6 I7 Processors at 3400 GHz. So I bought a PC just for Dust. It cost me a little over $2200 with insurance but imma write it off a business expense . So there ya go ya QQers who complained about you buying a PS3 just for Dust and it being boring;- for a Duster to get into Eve its more expensive. So I downloaded the game and installed it in a couple of hours. I created my account and logged in and started playing! Observations: Eve is ******* mind blowing! I mean the level of customizations I can do after just day 1 is truely amazing! And thanks to AFK farming I could get all the SP I needed in Dust and complete my missions in Eve at the same time. The things you can do and the places you can go is truely amazing. The graphics are so smooth. They actually have a rookie channel where fellow Eve pilots actually try to help the pilots. Watch out for scams though. I already got challenged to a duel on my very first day . Progression in Eve is slow as ****. However thats a good thing. Skill training is time based and you cannot rush into anything. I actually declined a mission because I had to train a **** load of stuff before I could do that and the AI agent actually gave me attitude LOL. All in all Eve is phenominal. Thumbs up CCP for Eve! Now the gazillion ISK question;- How could you do something so amazing with Eve and **** **** up with Dust? Google to find some early EVE footage, beta footage if you can. EVE was a very rushed product at the beginning, and the pressure on the Devs to get the product out was phenomenal, even by the standards of this industry.
CCP has the luxury now to take the time to build the product the way they want to, rather than the way they have to.
I think many peeps don't realize how truly beta we still are.
My feeling is that in the long run DUST is going to be a much better code product than EVE, for unavoidable historical reasons. CCP has learned a hella lot over the last decade.
It's great to hear about your experiences as a new podpilot in EVE - that 10 years living in New Eden is why some of us vets seem to have an unreasonable amount of faith in CCP. Given our experience, it's not faith or fanboiism, it's just clear thinking and intelligent assessment based on experience.
What i'm waiting for is the EVE core engine rewrite - when that gets done the result will be truly mindblowing - and at that point, i'm betting that EVE + PS4 DUST 514 will see our Viking developers, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, treading the jeweled thrones of the MMO and the FPS worlds under their sandaled feet."

Just walk away from Dust now and come back in 10 years, it will blow your mind out as Eve just did with all its complexity.
Sorry. This is not an option. As I told CCP before and I am telling you;- competetive FPS is a whole different beast. If you havent game battled or something equivalent you wont know what I am talking about. Leaving Dust with no catch up system in place if just going to mean other people who stick one will be ahead of me. You may not understand it but every single SP/advantage counts. The 1 extra SP, 1 extra shield, that 25% increase in reload speed counts. You either give Dusters the option to catch up or make the game fun. No 2 ways about it in FPS! Part of your battle is lost. There will be no way to catch up. But i'm sure that you understand that with specialization a new peep can get close enough to any vet that the outcome of encounters will depend primarily on player skill. It might take a few months, and some peeps won't be able or interested enough to handle the growing process. But I think what's going to balance this is word-of-mouth.
As for fun, EVE isn't fun for a lot of people. The number of peeps who try EVE and leave is phenomenal.
Is our semi-alpha, core mechanics/balancing testbed code fun? I'm enjoying it, but i definitely see your point. I don't identify with your position at all, though, because as far as I'm concerned, I haven't even seen DUST yet, and neither have you.
