Did I make this thread <.<...
Lol I love how some people are like "EVE CAN'T STOP MY HUSTLE."
And others are like "WE GONNA PIMP THESE DUST MERCS AND PUT THEM ON THE NULL SEC FOR PROFIT."
There are different players. Someone beat me to the punch but let me elaborate in my own way.
There will be many types of players and corporations.
Player Group A will want to do it for fun.
Player Group B will want to do it for the one-ups/penor bragging.
Player Group C will want to make a solo profit as a serious merc.
Player Group D will focus on E-Sports, with players betting on them.
Player Group E will be focused on the stories and warfare
Player Group F will be wanting to dominate Null Sec (lol).
And so on.
It'll be the same for corps although their goals will probably sway more to being able to make a profit most of the time whether that's through actual battles or through selling of equipment or spying.
So yeah. There's a difference. If you aren't the person that will care about this, then you really shouldn't be posting. I can't you or make you stop posting in this thread but I'll suggest it <.<...lol.

If this game never fully integrates with eve and we keep our market separate, unlimited items, even reenforcements for matches, and cheap gear then none of the corp mechanics of eve will happen here. From the look of things though, sounds like we will have resources, production, limited supplies, and the dynamics of fighting for sov will be affected by us and also affect us.
If all of these thing become part of the game then the people that are playing for thr pure fps factor are in for a surprise. Imagine an enemy team with enough money to have several hundred more reenforcements per battles with top of the line gear that cost 5mil or more per fit because market prices have changed the cost of equipment. New items and more advanced gear will eventually come to the game. If you cant afford top of the line gear and lots of clones, good luck being succesfull with your corp. All this free/cheap militia gear will probably perform like crap compared to a fully decked out tech II or pirate faction geared team.
Sure you can play pub matches or coop in future for low cash but you won't be fighting the best corperations. Soon everyone in eve will know who the best merc corps are and who not to hire, a smart merc corp leader will want to understand eve and its people if they plan on being successful as the games become more and more connected. There will not be a dust 2, 3, or 4. Ccp will just expand on this game and update its look and gameplay and add new content for free. People that are here just for the fps side i fear will be the ones that get pushed out by the harshness of eve's social interactions. |

Cpt Murd0ck wrote:I'm not liking all the "fps gamers only care about this" or "mmo players are different because of this" EVE just like DUST will has different layers of player who want different things from their games. I played EVE for a while and big corp scandals and battles between the likes of goonswarm or BoB never effected my game (directly) Some players will just want to log on everyday to kill other players, inflate their KDR and be the top of the leaderboards. Other players will only care about nul sec sec and scoff at the "noobs" who play pub matches they will care about their corp and it's reputation. It's these players who WILL care about about all the politics and scandals but that's the beauty of new Eden its a different game to everybody. DUST might not end up with the same scope but CCP do it right it and should have at least a fraction of it.
This.
Most EVE players are in space because they want to have fun, get kills and earn some bragging rights. It's not that different to any other competitive gamer.
And if you can remove those elements, or couple of them, by using ISK, fraud, espionage, covert ops or politics, most people leave for some other corp. Sure, you and the couple of friends closest to you will remain, but the reputation you so hardly built will go poof. That's how it works in EVE, and that kind of game will sometimes spill over to Dust. It might not be that frequent, but it's *possible*. And the OP wanted to speculate about the possibilities, so that's what I do.
You just need proper mix of spying, betrayal, intelligence and hard work and you can make most of the people in the target corp feel they can't win, their bragging rights go missing due to opposition knowing too well how they work and they stop having fun because the game seems unfair.
Now, when the game stops being fun, most people just leave. They go to another corp and another game. If someone in your corp says "hey, let's play ME3 instead, it's more fun than this" and half of the people follow him, you have already lost the war even if the people technically stay in your corp.
And that kind of stuff works *better* if the guys in your corp have short attention span and just want some easy fun. So the FPS players described by some in this thread fall into this kind of pitfall *more* easily than players whose goals span years. Much of this kind of work boils down to this: the attacker will try to make the game as unfun as possible to the target. He is willing to make *his own* game unfun for weeks or months to accomplish the goal. And the side that can endure the unfunness longer and still remain active and retain their spirit wins.
Good example of this kind of work are corp thieves: they are often hunted down repeatedly and with dedication and force, until they figure it's easier to biomass the character. It doesn't matter if you hide for months, they *will* be waiting the very day you come back. So in the end it's easier to just say "goodbye" to the SP and make a new character.
Like I said, I don't believe most EVE corps bother to do this to Dust corps. But it's not impossible, if someone really wants.

Eventually it will have more of an impact than that. When our corp went **** up we lost sov on 1/3 of our systems and lot our logistic chain of JBs in 12 hours.
Losing your corp and identity is a huge hit to morale.
true but its a sad thing to say that most of the average fps gamer pride comes from his k/d ratio, not how his team is doing
That depends on what FPS you've been playing. Certain ones demand team play and squad ethics. |

yeah, here's the problem with your espionage and sabotage, and theft(don't act life its some kind of heroic achievement. you're just stealing from someone else's hard work because you're spiteful that they have more than you)
FPS players go: Damn, well, mark that guy, put him on a blacklist, restart the corp, and watch him to find out which master he serves, login to eve, and do the exact same while pulling the con in dust as well, break him. at least that's how I go.
In EVE, was in my 2 week free trial, met a nice guy who said he had found some kind of container and noticing I was a newbie thought I could use it more than he could, such a nice player. it flagged me as soon as I touched it, he killed my ship, and then left my pod untouched, claiming that it was some kind of lesson while his flunkies(in starter ships as well) picked apart the corpse of my ship.
Did that break me? no. I got back to the station, got in my... I can't even remember the name of the thing now, battlecruiser, battleship, bat'leth? most heavily armed ship a freebie has the ability to fly. I had been learning the skills to use it, loaded the little bastard up with lasers, and left the station. one by one, I hunted down all his little buddies, tore them to shreds, turned their pods to ash. got some lovely hatemail. eventually, the guy found me and came after me again, predicted as such, thought it would take him less time after I started killing the little kittens.
Turns out there are white knights in EVE, and they wanted this guy dead for hassling newbies (who knew?) Dropped a hint as to his little plan for revenge (I made the same run every day for a couple days at around the same time) so I start puttering along my little route, he shows up on the leg of it that takes me through low-sec "ambushes" me(is that still the right word?) I open fire and call in the cavalry. it was short. left him in his pod, and told him he should have finished the kittening job next time, or he'll get someone like me again.
I miss playing EVE, but at the same time I don't. Unyielding vengeance is tiring, and stops being fun when you realize that in order to fight monsters, you had to become the bigger monster. |

Are you now talking about corp theft or espionage? They are very different things. Everyone who wants to remain in power does espionage and counter-espionage. There is nothing dishonorable in them; the EVE Universe *is* about getting power and not letting someone else have it. Without that aspect EVE and Dust would be just yet-another-boring-MMOs. And when getting into power, information is a critical asset; thus all possible ways are used to know the enemy plans.
Corp theft on the other hand steals someone else's belongings; it is generally frowned upon very much.
If you feel spying, espionage, cabinet dealings and cartels are bad form, you're playing in wrong universe. Because these are both essential on how corporations and alliances interact, they are also integral part of the EVE world. |

You know... this is going to be one of the hardest things for CCP to implement.
Most FPS players only likes shooting at things, they will ok with the SP and skill books, so they can shoot more things "Faster". But all this EvE "thing", where role play is taken to a completely different level, is going to be Alien for most of them.
Most FPS players are truly CLONES....
