I don't see the logic in that comment, but when I started getting less than 1k SP for a game halfway through the week, I would just think, screw this, and I would wait for the reset.
Now the daily cap doesn't have all this diminishing returns bollocks. Which is a good thing in my opinion. |

<3 the daily cap, only entitled scrubs are really mad about it. My only complaint is that you HAVE to get on each day. If they could somehow roll over any missed SP throughout the week, without letting you go over that max cap, and resetting the cap at the end of each week, I think it would be absolutely perfect. That way you could still miss a few days, and if you play your ass off, you can still keep up with everyone else.
Rate of SP is just about perfect. |

The weekly cap was nice because I could play for a day or two during the week and hit the cap and get all my SP. This freed up the rest of the week to take care of real world responsibilities.
Now, I have to play every day if I want my max SP... it's become a job.
With a family, a real job and other interests, this has become a chore. It has me seriously looking at AFK SP farming in the MCC while I take care of my real life obligations that I have around the house.
I'd rather have only passive SP than this, it would be less of a chore and it would take away the grinding aspect of the game.
EDIT: I agree with the suggestion of a SP accrue system, that would make me happy. So if we missed a few days I could play and catch up. |

To be honest though, why do most people think they have to keep up all the time. So what if you miss a day or even a week?
Look at virtually all competitive FPS's on consoles, they all have a progression system. You always get players WAY ahead of you. I don't know if it's because most of you are EVE players but if you fall behind in a console FPS, why give a ****. It's a game, you'll always get someone ahead of you.
It's pathetic really, in any game if you don't play a lot you will fall behind but in this game everyone thinks they should all be at the same level. Imagine if all the open beta players join these forums and start saying "Aw, it's unfair you have a head start", but how many of you would actually care, you'd just tell them to HTFU.
And I say that to all of you complaining about being behind. HTFU. |

It's not about being behind, it's about falling behind and not being able to get that SP even when we can play. As a college student, I am mostly only able to play on the weekends. I spend all my week doing school work while my weekends are usually quite free.
This daily cap with no roll over sucks, because I could put 10 or so hours on this game over the course of a Saturday or Sunday, but I get shafted because of the daily hard cap. It doesn't matter how much I play on the weekends when I have time, I don't get any SP despite playing more than what some people casually play over the course of a week.
"It's pathetic really, in any game if you don't play a lot you will fall behind but in this game everyone thinks they should all be at the same level."
There's a big difference. In any other game, if you have the time to play, you can play your ass off and catch up. The fact is, I and a lot of other people can play more on a Saturday and Sunday than a lot of people play during the entire week, but we're the ones getting shafted, only getting 2 days worth of SP, despite playing more than the casuals that play everyday. |

I think it will be much less of an issue when people have their passive skills and specializations up to snuff. Right now, while we're all fairly weak, having more SP than the other guy means you have more health, more damage, and longer range. Eventually, having more SP will just mean that you have more trained up tools in your arsenal than the other guy. Then it won't feel like so much of a race to the top of the SP pile. |

I'm not saying a cap roll over would be bad, if anything I would love a cap roll over. At the moment though there is no cap roll over and I don't really care if I don't get a days SP. It doesn't bother me that much that I complain my arse off about it. (Not saying you personally are, but a lot of people on the forums are.) |

Current SP Gains = Hit cap do something else for a lot of people. If I was a game dev, I would be looking to go against that line of thinking. There's a middle ground between that and ZOMG PEOPLE HIT PROTO IN 2 DAYS AND ARE PWNING ME!!!11!!!11!!!
New content upon the open beta and a re-vamped SP system or a promise of one shortly after would keep people's attention.
If there's not I don't see the majority of new people staying after the influx (if there actually is one, that's yet to be seen.).
I'd like to be optimistic, but with this and other things it's a tad hard to be.
I do hope CCP proves me wrong however. |

Wait what? Daily cap does have diminishing returns, extreme ones, of only 50 sp per match. Also, if I miss a day, there is no way to get it back other than playing 1000 matches on another day when my cap's been hit. |

Who REALISTICALLY plays everyday, every week, every month and even to every year? Nobody.
This talk of missing the possible SP by not getting to play is mostly useless.
Sadly, I can imagine the HC players crying about one missing day because 'I can't keep up' but let's be real here, what does one, two days matter if you are going to play this game for a long time?
Also I have even now been hearing talk about missing work to get the daily SP. Sad.

The only positive thing I've ever heard about the new daily cap is the lack of diminishing returns, but the lack of diminishing returns has nothing to do specifically with the daily cap. We could have had the old weekly cap, a monthly cap, a universal all-time cap, or even no cap with no diminishing returns. This daily cap has gotten nothing but hate aside from the fix to diminishing returns.
Also, having SP rollover from the daily cap is just likening it even more to our old weekly cap.
Why are we on a daily cap?

I partly agree and have to admit that I've had more fun the past week. This is OFC partly because RL has allowed me to play most days so I've not personally "suffered" from the cap, and partly because we're now playing for real with no more planned resets... Still, the changes aren't *all* bad.
I like the fact that the SP rewards are more consistent than what we had with the weekly diminishing returns. Since I know it's easy to reach the cap in one play session, it becomes less of a grind allowing me to play for fun rather than SP. I also tend to play a few games after capping when RL permits and I feel like it (most days for now). With the weekly cap the low rewards after 1-2 days were off-putting whereas now I know from the start the match is only for fun (and a bit of ISK), not SP.
Obviously the system needs to be improved but I'm confident it will be, hopefully soon rather than SOONGäó. A couple of things come to mind (might have been mentioned before, I've honestly not read all the threads/posts on this subject ;)):
- Performance vs. time in battle should be adjusted. Preferably in a way that rewards those who keep trying despite getting owned while discouraging AFKing.
- There should obviously be a rollover, but rather than a weekly reset (which is what I've seen people suggest) there should be a pool of available-active-SP that holds up to n days worth. This would allow casuals to keep a constant pool, always get SP and still keep up. Maxers OTOH would be able to cap out as long as they play hardcore every n days, regardless of which day of the week they do it (weekly reset would mean they "need" to play the day before the reset).

Who was this made for?
The cap is made for CCP. It is there to put a governor on the rate of your SP gain so you always have some new skill to look forward to even after several years of play.
I don't think that CCP cares about the implementation details outside of wanting the player base to happy.
The problem is that most of the complaints are about the fact of the cap rather than the details. The rest of the talk revolves around the distribution of SP reward you do get. Does it get handed out in a big gob at the beginning of each week, or is it parceled out on a daily basis, and what is the reset interval?
Those who could play a great deal early on in the reset period complained that an extended period of low returns was discouraging, thus the daily parcel of SP split up the low SP matches over many days. It did not change the amount of either, it just redistributed it. The fact of the daily reset (no rollover) hurts most folks because it forces daily play to hit the small cap and that just doesn't match most people's schedules. It's exacerbated by the fact that we are currently low in total SP and small differences are very noticeable, but even later you will still be waiting for SP to accumulate for some skill you really want. |
