If you ever zoomed out all the way you would see a very large area of place you cant go. All these maps we play on can support hundreds of players at least and there are even roads that stretch across and connect every corner of the map. what we play on is a fraction of what is really there.
what do you all speculate? |

Hopefully never.
All I have heard about player count per map is 48(24v24) the map would become too large to be any fun. Only a little better than BF3 on ps3.
Only would want this if we could have 96+ players per map. |

Hopefully when beta opens up- only then will we possibly have enough players online at once to manage one battle.
On another note- when will we be able to go into that MASSIVE complex north of line harvest? I've heard about people being glitchlaunched in/near it, and it definitely isn't just a giant empty building. |

The maps definitely need to be much bigger, as the line between heavies, logis, assaults and snipers is far too thin ATM. The bigger the maps, the more each class will have a very specific role rather than an all-in-one package.
Also as somebody else brought up, if the maps were larger then a dropship would make sense and be useful for transporting people over great distances quickly.
Not to mention the fighter-jet thing we are going to get eventually (there was a video from a long time ago where CCP was demonstrating it). Something like that would be pretty lame on the tiny maps we currently play on.
What I think would be neat was if say 3 or 4 of the maps we play on now were actually all on a large map, in which any player can move between them to grab/hold objective points either by means of dropships or LAVs. And redlining a team would mean that each area had been fully taken over. |

But that was psuedo 256 players. The PS3 hasn't got the memory to handle that many players at a time all in one map. |

I'm interested in that too, upon a closer inspection that complex looks like a giant hangar or somekind of spaceport, I would love to play in a map like that (prepare your CQC fittings)

I'm thinking that at this point in time the plans for this game are more considering the PS4 (or Orbis or whatever it's called), than the PS3. At least they better be, since the PS3 is within 1-2 years of the end of it's lifecycle and Dust is being planned for much longer than that.
I would most definitely expect battles with 256 players and possibly even more. Even with MAG's design, the PS3 memory did in fact handle 256 player battles. Maybe you weren't there for the 256 player roundup that was organized in MAG...I was! There were not all that many issues with all of us in one place at one time...even on the PS3 memory. Imagine what will be possible on PS4.
BTW...Zipper stated several times that the 256 player count was a decision and not a limit. They actually could have made it an unlimited player count if they decided to do so.
I've often wondered (by the way MAG was handled) if it wasn't just a testing ground for something of a much grander scale...like Dust!

look up the stampede videos if you dont think it was real.
but I do think it is a horrible Idea to even mention Zipper at all MAG was a 2 year beta... wait there are still people playing it.
If your argument to say pseudo is they didnt have 128v128 on the same side at once this is still a false statement because a lot of the times platoons would run behind enemy lines an disable from behind.... Like I said...I believe it was designed from the start to be a testing ground for something much larger.
And yes, you are correct, we did get all 256 players in the same area at the same time and no one ended up with a blown PS3 because of it. No doubt the PS4 will be able to handle an unlimited amount of players on the battlefield. The last report (or rumor) I heard is that the test model was shipped to developers with 12GB of memory....plenty enough to handle anything thrown at it in the foreseeable future.

I want to blame Sony but something tells me Zipper didnt want to put work into their games.... either that or they knew they were getting sacked so they phoned it in after a year with mag
Even after Zipper was sacked Slot B and Slot C MAG characters were one of the highest on the top 10 DL list.

I don't know anything about MAG, but question: Was it in MAG that players in same side could be in the same spot, same time, ie. move as a huge 128 or 256 man group? Or was it handled somehow differently? |

You don't have to convince me! I think most of us knew very well (or at least suspected) that Sony had their thumb firmly planted on the whole thing. No doubt in my mind that Zipper was a much more capable developer than we all saw out of their last 3 projects. Hell, they did things with the PS2 that (for some unknown reason...lol) couldn't be done in MAG or SOCOM 4. Certainly there was much more at play through the whole thing.
Ah well....that's ancient history. My point was that 256 players would be possible for Dust on the PS3 and will certainly be possible on the PS4...which I'm sure is being held in high consideration during this stage of Dust's development.

All of this talk about MAG had me curious as to how many folks stil play that game, so I popped in my copy and ... well, wow, talk about some good memories with my clan and MAG.
MAG's current playerbase is *nothing* compared to its heyday, but, from what I can tell, there' usually 600 to 800 players on during North American "primetime" play hours during the work week, and perhaps a few more on weekends.
I sure hope Dust 514 lives up to and surpasses what MAG accomplished. |

as to the OP (not Over powered, the 2nd term, Original Post) I`ve been talking ALOT about this in game and evryone has allready said stuff I woulod say so I would sound like a broken record to repeat so I`ll make it short and sweet and as little repititive as possible.
As a pilot I can`t wait (I`ll be an ALL AROUND pilot in full game), it will also be more usefull to use Drop Uplinks, as you should always do, spam them in some distances apart.
