[As previously stated... you need to learn to just use the basic controls before you go spending all your money (ISK) on equipment. Probably wanna hang onto those skill points before you blow them on nonsense too.
I don't mean this to sound obnoxious, but after re-writing it ten or twelve times, I'm left with this simple question...
Is this the first video game you've ever played with money, or skill points?
You get a certain set of free stuff (and for a mere $1.99 can add every blueprint in the game)... which you can use over and over.
I'm still dropping "vets" with starter fits. All the time? No but it happens. Especially my smg.
Get a corp... or better yet, start one. Recruit others like you, and figure it all out by yourselves. I promise that when you're in the top twenty corperations, it'll be worth it. You can even start a new, second character (or third) for "messing" around) with skills/builds etc...
While steep, the game's learning curve is nothing like (for example) getting good enough in a Warhawk to stay in the air for 40 seconds without being shot down. Just plan a little, and poke around the menu before spending money/points and you'll figure it out in no time.
A good corp with people who want to help you get better is always a good thing. |

A TASTY SANDWICH wrote:This is my very first post and I couldn't possibly find a better thread to post on. OP, it appears to me that you are judging this game on preconceived notions of fps games. Big mistake! One battle should show you that. This game is confusing at first, yes. However, you get out what you put in. Take the time watch the tuts. It's worth it. I get raped all the time. Its part of the atmosphere and I feel legitimacy of the game. If someone has been a merc for longer it stands to reason that person would have better gear, weapons, armor, skill, and overall know how. I love this game. It breaks the fps mold. Totally. What works in run and gun games does not here. Those who enjoy lone wolf run and gun will fade. Just like they did at MAG's release. To claim that the dev must fix all that you claim is broken is very short sighted. CCP has attempted something truly gamechanging here. Stand back and admire it. Adapt to it. I for one would like to see the cookie cutter gun games go away totally. Dust is about consequences. Buy what you want but if you die you lose it. Blew my mind at first but if you think about it, isn't that about as legit as a shooter can get? People always cry for realism. Its here my friend and its freaking complicated.
This. Full of win.
It does amaze me to see players wanting to play a console game that is suppose to be different yet they make requests to make it similar to others. I guess the OP doesn't realize that a lot of players don't all like cookie cutter games. |

Warhawk definetly had a helpful tutorial, but a making a good tutorial for a game the size of Dust 514 would be very difficult considering the amount of content they would have to cover. |

My advise will be: complete the tutorials. And if You have more questions about certain topics of the game; then You are more than welcome to elaborate and post your questions in the training room sub forum Cheers Tutorials don't really cut it. You should get people into the action as soon as possible and preferrably train them along the way. When you get PvE, trash the tutorials and train as you go. Tutorials will just bore the **** out of everyone. Get out. They take like 15 minutes to watch. If THATS too much for you, dust is not the game for you. |

What this game really needs is a training grounds/obstacle course type area that you can go to at any time to use owned weapons, equipment, and vehicles without risk of losing your stock. Then, make that area an optional tutorial that teaches the basic fundamentals of combat the first time you enter it.
Unless there already is one, in which case I don't know about it yet. Just got in the beta. All I know is the first time I went into combat I had no idea what I was doing. How to sprint, how to fire, how to switch weapons, etc. |

First post here, and haven't been in Eve since the Providence Wars, but loving what CCP is doing and where this game is headed. OK - now that the disclaimer is out of the way..
Having had the background of being in EVE, I figured the tutorials would be a good thing to go through, but to be quite honest I only went through the first screen of anything in order to just figure out where things were (like how to get into combat) - maybe 2 minutes. I jumped right in, really not at all understanding any of the mechanics. Part of that was excitement in getting started ASAP, but part of it too was in trying to see what the experience would be like for anyone who came from CoD or the like. I mean, let's be real, a lot of us out there who buy an FPS throw in the disc and hit multiplayer as soon as it loads without any concern over tutorials or the like. Maybe part of that is excitement, maybe part of that is the desire for instant gratification - but maybe it's also because we kind of know what to expect from many many years of pretty much the same thing.
That being said, I jumped into a skirmish right away and thought most of it was pretty obvious (from just an FPS standpoint). The STARTER builds let me try different combat roles which felt familiar to me which was perfect. Sure, the first few moments in combat I had no idea what the controls were... except, that's really a lie isn't it? A lot of them were exactly the same as any other FPS out there. I could run, change stance, throw a grenade, etc. I could also get shot and die and respawn. Not rocket science.
So then that led to the next thought... getting better gear, skills, etc. Well, the neocom got me into a game and had all the familiar eve skills/marketplace/etc. Someone else said this a few posts back, and I have to echo it - I spent probably an hour and a half in all that seeing what was available, etc. Not in a bad way or anything, I really like it, but it made me remember what the learning curve for Eve can seem for some people that are new to the game. ;)
Regardless, I think those that come into this looking for the usual FPS experience will still see that underlying foundation and really should only find themselves disappointed in their own impatience or ignorance. I thought the information screens were pretty well integrated as it was already, as I had the option of learning as much or as little as I wanted. Ultimately, I had no one to blame but myself for not knowing what I was doing. RTFM, HTFU, etc.
OK, this was longer than I intended and maybe off-topic some. To the OP; as has been said, this isn't your little sister's FPS. The underlying fundamentals are still there, and we're all more than welcome to play it that way (spawn, kill, die, respawn) if we like. BUT - to advance in the game, you'll have to play the game, and... well... use your brain, every so often, for maybe a few minutes. It isn't hard, it's a ton of fun, and there are plenty of corps/people out there who would love to help.

Well i see what your all saying but think about the market on counsole it is not the same for PC. People want to jump in and play not spend their life on game to upgrade a character. The game has terrible graphics they are awful. I know they are trying something new and i'm all for it i personally hate what cod has done to shooters. Any resistance fall of man fan would know what i'm talking about. But they have to be more generous with the market and im not going to pay real money for blue prints if playing it for free relies on spending money. if i have to drop more then $20 on this game for it to be fun the ill buy $60 game and not have to waste my time. I was extreamly excited when i got accepted to the beta i was looking up lore and into the back story. I downloaded it and was up and ready. first the graphics hit me as a piece of ****, then the death match centered game play pissed me off. the maps where i jog for 10min looking for an enemy. the lil red arrows that makes everyone visible for noob kills. and then got shat on by superior fire power i cant afford. you will have to play this game on day one or else your left in the dust. eve online must be great but that's not a shooter for one and two PC gamers and counsole players are very differnt my roommate is PC and im counsole i played WOW and im a big LOL fan now to but the style and the commitment are very different you cant expect this game to succeed with such a small nich at this rate its doomed to fail especially when there are other shooters that are more forgiving and and more fun. MAG is a great example id much rather play then this. but to be honest if killzone 4 releases before this then i wont be returning. |

Uh, PC Gamers are hardcore, Minecraft being the first game that casual players on PC took a shine too besides WoW. DUST's success will come from the casual gamers, who are far more willing to pick up a console game then a PC game. Why? PC Games communities are elitest assholes who think in an FPS that you can't even have an opinion without a 2.0 KDR. Throw in the availability of the PS3 compared to PC, It's just easier to sit down and relax to rather then sitting down in front of my computer.
The latest statistics from netflix says PS3 is there number 1 platform for online streaming, beating out PC. This goes to show the change of mind people are having towards consoles in general, and shows CCP may be on the right track making this a console exclusive.
I think PC gamers have a harder time being casual then console ones, and graphics have nothing to do with anything.
And for the post above me -I'd rather drop $60 bucks on a new game then spend 20 to make dust fun- This is a joke statement right? You'd rather drop 60 bucks on just any other FPS then spend 20 on possibly making a character rock in an ever expansive and growing game? You sir, are a rager. |

Just to state i do like the idea that my actions matter and that i have to play this game with my limits in mind about what kind of gear i have and if i lose i lose it to. But unless your a eve vet ummm i could really give two ***** about taking my time to find what some one is running and what kind of load out they have then i have to get my team cooperate in taking down an individual. NOW STOP think about that.....get my cooperate unless your playing with friends or a clan your ******. no one cooperates in any game even in LOL where the game is based on it and if they don't have mics good luck with that. I enjoy a challenge and as far as putting a kill limit on the skirmish mode i have no clue why you want that when your suppose to going for objectives vs kills like i said it invites camping. Kill-cams im not a fan but what dictates line of sight if my camera is in your general direction i can see you, your in my line of sight if you can see me unless you can see through walls. (don't argue this its physics) I enjoy the challenge but like i said im not going to pay to play if the game is free then that's how i play it same goes for LOL i don't pay unless i really want a skin. Im not going to pay for blue prints they should be accessible in game currency otherwise anyone who pays again will **** on others. if that's the case where i have to pay then ill get a good game like killzone. The other concern is and ill let it slide with it being a beta is the game looks like crap im playing on my ps2. reminds me of a ****** version of killzone 1. I want to get into this game i really do trust me but right now there is nothing that makes me want to play. If you want to make a game where dieing really matters im all for it but make smaller maps that allow for tactical play. Metal Gear online did a great job and so did MAG. this game the cost of death is to high with little reward. Almost mandatory you play with a clan or mics which i like but good-luck finding actually players granted i come from mindset of 5th graders that play and do what they want but lil here shows me its any diffrent you will always ahve the people who will do what they want and **** the team over but when that means i lose items i put time into getting and get spawned killed or even a regular kill **** it. |

Do missions or contracts that you can earn gear and in game currency with out fighting others. If this game wants to be like a rpg then make it like one. Just like in WOW not everyone is doing pvp 24/7 they do missions and such to build their character. this will allow newcomers to come in and have fun before joining the fight. But just jumping in as a wet fish where is the fun if you just wrecked when you try. Like the fact you lose everything but getting it back somewhat should not seem like a job. This is a game not an occupation. And yes other games have it where vets wreck noobs but to this scale not where is it this bad. a slightly better lmg at lvl 20 vs a assault rifle at lvl 2 your good. but armor, weapons, modules, vehicles, and everything else a vet has vs a noob at lvl 1 the odds are stacked much higher in this game then any other. |

We are in a age of where people like a good looking game. I want to enjoy my experience and where visuals are 90% of how you connect to a video-game its important. Blan landscaped can ruin great game-play video-game history has shown us that. Just please don't say nintendo is amazing compared to modern games they didnt have the tech back then and everyone loves a classic. Dust is not a classic so it doesn't get a pass in the visuals department. And something you all seem to enjoy saying is that this game breaks the mold its new it great for being new i totally agree but... BUT it has to be accessible play have to be able to play it and you cant rely on only a small group to keep it alive. It costs money to keep a game up and running and they need to get people to drop real cash to keep it going not in game cash. Look at the business model you cant make it pay to play you have to make it accessible to a large market and you have to make them want to drop real cash on it. If they dont take care of these three core aspects of a free game then it will fail. I'm glad apparently there are missions and pve as the above post stated so if that's going to be in there then its all gravy baby lol |

Yea, looks don't count for much to me. It's nice, but the mechanic of the game is what will keep me coming back."
But then again, my all time favorite games are the Romance of the Three Kingdoms ones. Graphics, non-existant |

I agree I enjoy classic games and graphics aren't big for me. But look at the market and the new HD remastering of games. Dont just think about your self you need to think about others and if they will play. lol i wish they made a game just for me but i dont know how many people will buy it, that kinda thing. But i will say this GIVE ME MY FINAL FANTASY 7 HD REMAKE! lol |

But FF10 HD "REMASTER" is almost out :D
And I think there's a lot who agree that the meta gaming aspect of this game far exceeds anything bad graphics could destroy |

Char Egret wrote:Just to state i do like the idea that my actions matter and that i have to play this game with my limits in mind about what kind of gear i have and if i lose i lose it to.
Your rant sir would be easier to read with some spacing. Space it and I might read this block of text. |
