i just joined the beta so granted i don't have any great guns or armor but when this game launches this will affect new players who want to join after the initial launch, trying to join in right away no one will play for very long. the skill menu is confusing took me about an hour to figure it out, i know there are tutorials but i don't feel like sitting there for an hour to listen how to play. anyone playing for awhile will wreck any noob in seconds with superior fire power and armor a swell. I tried to buy some new guns and armor and the prices are so high and to buy multiple for every time a die is mind blowing. If i buy a gun i should get like 20 not just one. I know this is a beta but these issues need to be addressed soon rather then later. Oh and remove the limited number of clones for skirmish it turns it into no more then death match with people camping objectives for the kills and a easy win. plus not a bug fan of the arrows over everyone's head especially enemies makes it far to easy to find someone and makes snipping difficult give us a kill cam maybe but get rid of it. again i know this is a beta and your trying to do something new with making it free to play but right now id much rather go pay for a $60 game and have fun then waste time on this. |

Welcome to New Eden?
Seriously, this is MEANT to be the way it is. Buy cheap gear, use the Starter Fits, and DON'T USE WHAT YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO LOSE. If you're running Starter Fits, there's no restocking cost, you can just keep spawning. If you have some Aurum, you can buy the "blueprint" gear in the marketplace (Militia Gear, look for blue borders and prices in AUR instead of ISK), which is infinitely re-usable as well - use that to modify the Starter Fits, and you'll be sorted while you train your character's skills up. |

I realise you're new to the game but you clearly have no idea what this game is about - forget about all those other FPSs you've played before and spend some time learning about how Dust works instead of trying to play it like you did other FPSs.
Also, yeah, pay attention to what Garrett has said above - very good advice. |

The fact that there's people been playing longer than someone else goes with the territory. Its like that with any online game (bf3, starhawk, GOW, uncharted 3 etc etc). There are new players joining bf3 all the time, even eve. This is not your typical run of the mill shooter, its unique and very different to what alot of console kiddies are used to. don't be one of those who want the skill system simplified, everything nerfed, cover system (rainbow 6 Vegas style), third person view etc etc, the skill system is one of the key components of dust. Just enjoy it, and remember its not a 'game' until its released. Right now its a 'beta' for the upcoming 'game'. |

Welcome to New Eden.
Garrett Blacknova is right. This is the way it was meant to be played. Eve Online is operating under the same rules in New Eden for the past nine years and it has been working well since then. CCP is not going to fix what's not broken.
1. The game is suppose to condition you into learning how to be less reckless and start managing your resources as future battles will be dictated by resources and their availability.
2. Starter fits are ok. There is no shame in using them. In fact, veteran players are often using them because they ran out or are starting to run out of expensive gear and are trying to recuperate their income in the meantime.
3. Playing strictly with starter fits after help you hone in your skills by making the most of what little you have. That way, by the time you get better gear, your experience will ensure your success.
4. Adapt or Die. That is the mantra that is cried out all throughout New Eden in both Eve Online and in Dust 514. There is no exception to it. If you are not willing to adapt, then you will die and therefore this game may not be for you at all.
5. As Garrett mentioned, using the AURUM-based militia BPO suits is a good start. Because it give you the option of not having to constantly restock on cheap gear. But please keep in mind that the militia BPOs are limited in terms of stats and variety. So don't depend on them too much.
6. No kill cam. A lot of us here have played COD and we agreed that the kill cam only takes away from what Dust 514 is about. Adaptability in a harsh environment.
7. CCP did let us do skirmish months ago back in June without the clone reserve limit. But surprisingly we all demanded the limit to be imposed for skirmish. And CCP agreed and they did. Also, the clone limit will be an important factor in warfare in the future in terms of resource management.
8. It doesn't make sense to give you 20 units of a weapon for the cost of 1 unless CCP raises the cost to compensate. New Eden has no commodity in its thriving economy that allows you to buy more than one for the price of one unless another player makes a private deal with you via exchange contracts.
9. The arrows over your head is part of the Tactical Network (TACNET) that displays enemy location based on line of sight. If you see someone nearby, they will appear to everyone else in your team via the TACNET. But if you lose sight of them and no one else can either, then that enemy merc has disappeared off the TACNET. I am able to bypass this by using plenty of cover such as containers, hills, structures, etc. |

The only advise I can give is look at the gear of the person you're shooting at.
Pretty sure it says MLT, STD, ADV, PROTO or whatever when you aim at them.
If the dude you're shooting has STD (standard) /ADV (Advanced)/ Proto gear odds say they'll be shooting you with a Gek or a Duvolle and their shield will more than likely be quite high.
Pay attention to the names of who's killing who on the killfeed, that will tell you what gun they'll be killing you with.
Run away from heavies unless you can flank them and shoot them in the head from the side or behind. (or are in a group.)
That's all I got for new people. |

Welcome to New Eden.
This isn't your run of the mill shooter....13 year olds will probably fail at this game because they cant hop on before bed time, get a few kills and quit. It takes time. We have all invested months...millions of ISK...millions of SP....more changes than you could think of. and guess what...soon enough....we will be doing it all over again. Why you ask? because its different...it actually takes skill....in CoD you learn to turn your sensitivity up so you can turn faster to catch that guy trying to get you from behind. Here if your caught from behind your a sitting duck unless you have some skill.
We have Armor and Shields, so its not going to take three shots to kill us unless its a missle, forge, nade, or sniper rifle. As a newcomer to New Eden, you will die....alot. just as we all did. We all did the grind, lost hundreds and thousands of suits and we keep going back for more. |

Hello and welcome to DUST 514. I would like to know if you've completed the tutorials. The present version has this tutorials:
1- Neocom 2- Skills 3- Market 4- Fitting
I'm afraid that if you don't spend time learning the basics of the game through the tutorials, You will have questions that probably the tutorials can answer. My advise will be: complete the tutorials.
And if You have more questions about certain topics of the game; then You are more than welcome to elaborate and post your questions in the training room sub forum
Cheers |

Tutorials don't really cut it. You should get people into the action as soon as possible and preferrably train them along the way. When you get PvE, trash the tutorials and train as you go. Tutorials will just bore the **** out of everyone. |

If that's the case, then perhaps an option should be added in the character selection menu to simply go into an Ambush match or an NPC-run skirmish match in high-sec right away would suffice. But they still have to go through the login process since everything is processed in the server. |

As easy as it is to just comment this isn't your run of the mil Fps .the point that worrys me the most is that someone would rather pay 60 dollars instead of play a free to play game with dusts development. Also the frequency of these post would concern me if I was developer. To the op hold in till the next build release to make sure you still feel that strong like a lot of us are. |

This is my very first post and I couldn't possibly find a better thread to post on. OP, it appears to me that you are judging this game on preconceived notions of fps games. Big mistake! One battle should show you that. This game is confusing at first, yes. However, you get out what you put in. Take the time watch the tuts. It's worth it. I get raped all the time. Its part of the atmosphere and I feel legitimacy of the game. If someone has been a merc for longer it stands to reason that person would have better gear, weapons, armor, skill, and overall know how. I love this game. It breaks the fps mold. Totally. What works in run and gun games does not here. Those who enjoy lone wolf run and gun will fade. Just like they did at MAG's release. To claim that the dev must fix all that you claim is broken is very short sighted. CCP has attempted something truly gamechanging here. Stand back and admire it. Adapt to it. I for one would like to see the cookie cutter gun games go away totally. Dust is about consequences. Buy what you want but if you die you lose it. Blew my mind at first but if you think about it, isn't that about as legit as a shooter can get? People always cry for realism. Its here my friend and its freaking complicated. |
