I'm Kevall Longstride, Clone brother and Dust Spokesman of Capsuleer Dennie Fleetfoot, member of Eve University and recently appointed Director Of Operations for DUST University.

EVE University is one of the most famous corporations in New Eden, founded on March 15 2004 by Morning Maniac and is currently run by Kelduum Revaan our CEO and currently at this time a member of CSM7, the democratically elected Council of Stellar Management. These well known members of the Eve community have been chosen by the players of Eve Online to voice our concerns to CCP and to work as a sounding board for CCP for ideas they have for the future of Eve Online and now Dust 514.
So how is DUST University going to work?
The honest answer is that we are not yet completely sure. How we operate and what we do for new players in Eve Online is built entirely around the well established corp structure in Eve. Hangers, roles, inventory, industry etc, etc. These are not as yet present in Dust and some may not happen at all. But our core principles will remain and be the basis for DUST University. We will also, once Dust 514 launches officially try to remain neutral, subject to the mechanics of the final game and to what the rest of the Dust community is getting up to.
But that is in the future what I'm here for is the now. Kelduum has told me that while Dust is in Beta it's pretty much a free for all and we are just going to have some fun.
How to apply
DUST University is now open for business with the switch to TQ. Search for DUST University in the corp neocon and apply. This part is optional but can you also put in the text of the application your main Eve character name should you play. There are no restrictions as to joining in terms of corp standing to the Uni at this time (this may change as new game mechanic's are introduced) but I want to get a picture of the kind of Eve player joining Dust and this will help form future policy.
We want every role in game. Logistics, Assault, Heavy, Scout and Pilot. As new roles appear we'll want them too.
We also want players who understand the skill tree system and how each skill can effect battlefield performance. DUST University will be a training corp and I'm on the lookout for those players who can answer questions for newbies. So empathy and friendliness to towards newbies and a willingness to help is needed.
Now while I say fun I also mean civil. So there are some basic rules to be in the D-UNI that will have to be followed. And I'll be operating a three strikes and your out policy during the beta. Eve University has a reputation in New Eden to uphold and I'll not have DUST University darken that reputation. I'm also a nearly four decade veteran of gaming and FPS playing so I know what can happen in the heat of digital battle.
Chat and Corp channels.
It is preferred that members have a headset but not a prerequisite during the beta. Just be aware that during combat you will be at a disadvantage if you suddenly find yourself in crossfire and require help. Also in terms of language, the same rules that E-UNI use will apply in D-UNI voice and text channels. If you don't hear it in The Simpsons you don't say it here. I expect this to be self policing but if I'm online and hear it....
Tolerance
EVE University has many members from across the globe from different walks of life and cultures. There will be NO racial language or abuse of any kind. Also should there be any female gamers in corp chat and indeed local chat, they're here to play Dust, not get hit on.
Skill Point Farming
If you can't get the SP from playing the game properly as a team, working to achieve the destruction of the opposition then you shouldn't be playing. Finding an exploit and then reporting it is fine. That is the purpose of a beta after all. Using that exploit repeatedly is not a worthy game winning strategy in my experience and again impacts on the reputation of E-UNI. Don't do it.
As the beta develops I may update these rules or bring in new ones but as I said before, the game mechanics are not set so I reserve the right to change them to the benefit of all. As Kelduum has said many times, E-UNI is not a democracy and neither is D-UNI.
As we get a larger player base and Dust develops than we will adding forums and expanding the current DUST University website. Many of these changes will require api integration so they won't happen overnight but for now our Facebook page, these forums and in game chat will be used to communicate with each other. On that subject, during the beta alt Dust toons are perfectly welcome to join KUDB and the D-UNI proper once its running. That may change once the game officially launches, but for now the more the merrier. |

Getting scammed by a group claiming to be EVE University would be entirely too meta, after all.  |

Eve Uni (Ivy League) aren't what they used to be, remember I used to recommend all the new pilots we'd receive would be sent of for an E-Uni education before returning as fully capable pilots.
Those days are unfortunately long gone since they got too involved in Sovereignty. Would hope that this Corporation will bring about a return the old ways for you guys, but won't be holding my breath on that. |

Perfectly understandable.
I will ask Kelduum to that asap. He's currently moving house but I'm sure it won't be a problem.
And you're not being paranoid, you're just a seasoned Eve player I presume.

Hey,
I'd be very interested in joining.
I'm a long long term EvE player but am brand (read first time in 15 years) new to FPS, and I am really bad at this game.
A couple of questions, if I might.
1. I don't have a mic and am not entirely sure I want one (I do on the PC if i need to move it at some point).
2. Are you recruiting people that might be able to 'teach' me some FPS?

As I said a mic is not a prerequisite but there are cheap third party Bluetooth PS3 ones for less than -ú15, so if you progress in this game it might be worth investing.
I will be looking at the practicality of using mumble in the future but not at the moment.
As to improving your actual physical skills with the joypad and coordination that is something that practice will bring. But part of being in Eve University and now Dust University is the support we give to those player who are weaker skill wise so that they can get better.

We are currently short of the 25 unique members required. KUDB has only been up and running for eight days and we're in double figures now.
If we can get the numbers before the deadline and be one of the first 16 corps to enter than yes, we will be entering the tournament.
I will be pushing for more E-UNI members within the corp to get joined up and indeed anyone here too. |

If you are a new player looking for a good group to get started you can't go wrong with E-Uni or its DUST equal.
P.S. the noob horde tactics probably won't work quite as well in DUST though  |

For the time being at least, yes. Again game mechanics in the final game may prevent that if corp standings play a part in it.
Dust University is happy to welcome all for as long as the game allows it. I believe it will make us stronger with a good mix of players that may have different tactics to deal with given situations that we can fold into how do things.
That way anyone that leaves Dust University to make their mercenary life in Nul-sec for instance will be a better player for it. And for those Corps that require an understanding of the game before hiring mercs will know that former D-UNI player will be of a certain standard.
That is my hope at least. |

They're plenty of corps in Eve that are Red to each other but are happy to buy each other drinks at Eve meets and in Reykjavik after all.

The information in the first post is still current. With Sisi being opened soon(TM) The full and proper D-UNI corp may soon be open for business however but I'll let all members know if that is the case. So feel free to join the temp corp, KUDB.
Incidentally, expect DT to last a while longer today while they hook up Sisi. Things may go wrong. |

The temporary corp was set up under a different name. The new corp is active, so all you need to do is search for Dust University under the corp tab from you neo-com. In fact, I think I searched Dust U. Then you click on apply to corp. That should be it. |

How was your vacation? Very good. Total whiteout in VT on last day so no snowboarding on the Friday. One of our group broke his collarbone on the forth run of the first day. Major suckage. He has surgery today I think. Bit of titanium some rest and he'll be soon back on the slope.

As the mechanic stands at the moment there is no standing hit were we to take a faction contract and we're saving up the isk at the moment to pay the collateral for Corporation Contracts when we start doing so.

The first corp I applied to imp swarm let me in and kicked my character in the same day without any warning, before I loged in.
Planetary response organization kicked me for no warning (message) when I didn't even have a mic working most of the time because of playstation error, and just after I got it working
Going eve university, I am not wasting any more time on those other losers I was in previously, they can all catch aids and die in a fire in the stonewall riots. I recommend others do the same, don' join a fail corp, join a real one.

Am I understanding correctly that I can join a squad of other DUST University members and then when I sign up for an Instant Battle the people in that squad will get assigned to the same battle? While this is a rather entertaining video this is actually a really good idea in the sense that we could establish "training ops" in the form of corp contracts. Just would need to set up an alt-corp (Dust Academy...Faculty? ) and have a essentially unlimited training session to help folks level with the large numbers of players we have and initiate some squad tactics.
Altogether this could be rather productive and even better at getting to solidify the corp. I'd probably suggest making the alt-corp an "officer corp" to simplify things for initial the sole purpose of training.

I too, played EVE Online many years ago, and remember hearing of you guys. Unfortunately I had to move around, and life caught up to me, so I was forced to put down my mouse and keyboard for a while. I recently bought a PS3, and have much more available time than before. I didn't watch the video all the way through but I flipped through it to get the general idea of what my fellow corp member was suggesting, a controlled training environment. I'm sure he wasn't condoning anything said in it.
The video itself wasn't taken by a member of DUST University, nor were they playing in it so I can't really say or do anything as a form of punishment for the language. I can assure you that if that were my corp mates speaking like that they'd be kicked. Indeed, I've kicked one member for such an offence already.
I have watched it all the way through now however and you'll have to forgive me for being woefully ignorant here but I can't hear or see anything that would cause offence in referance to your second name, other than the swearing. Can you point me to a time reference in it please so I can understand the nature of it. Many Thanks |

Back on the topic of the youtube video ... while the language is definitely not family friendly, it is nothing unusual for EvE players. CCP washes their hands of the matter with the "online interactions not rated" disclaimers (although they have been known to use the ban hammer when hate speech or insults come up) so it's up to each corp to set their language rules and police them. As most EvE-related players are adults, most EvE corps have minimal enforcement of language rules, if they have such rules at all. One of the things I always liked about E-Uni (and hopefully D-Uni) is the language guidelines ... they help prevent comms from descending into meaningless profanity and annoyance.

They're just virtual "universities", places to train. EvE University was for EvE players, teaching them how to fly, fight, fleet, make isk and generally survive ... as well as being an awesome place to hang out for veteran players. Dust University aims to do the same thing for Dust ... learn how to play, tactics, teamwork, etc. But most of all, have fun :) |

Interesting... I've been playing solo all the time and I think I've learn a lot the hard way. But, I think I can still learn some other things like "teamwork" and how corps work in this game (I've been playing for 2 weeks, BTW)
However, thanks to my "infiltrator" game style (Focused on capturing a lot, sneaking a lot, shotgun to the face a lot) I have some troubles in my squad sometimes, because everyone plays full frontal assault or they are sniping all the time...

In terms of training a large part of it is one on one or in squad training, Dust lacks the corp mechanics to enable us to set up structured classes but we have a work around and we are currently working on structured lessons covering all aspects of Dust and FPS ranging from structured practical classes to more theory based lectures and discussions.

The only downside at the moment is that a player has to actively seek help to get it. they can't quietly sign up to a class and learn what they want to, they have to ask for help and we will help them as best we can. As for activity we have exceeded all expectations. Again can't give number will have to ask Kev but we have 23.5/7 activity and there is always people to play with which is something I am personally very proud of.
D-UNI is of to a great start and can only continue to improve. |

Various reasons, I can say that Zion is a good group of guys and once more corp mechanics are in place the corp will only improve. I left the corp, but still in the pub channel so I can shoot stuff up with them. |

I've been playing Dust about a month, going it alone for the most part. A strategy that doesn't work well, once out of the Academy. 
I'm an older gamer (soon to be 48 y/o) so FPS can get a bit overwhelming in multiplayer due to my famous "turtle-like reflexes".
That's generally why I play FPS games mostly in Single player, although I did play MAG a few years back as a medic.
There is a reason I mention the age thing and that my skills are crap...
I was once invited to join a clan in MAG. They knew I was an older player, new to the game and that my K/D was really awful. I wasn't much help, because I didn't know what to do and no-one took the time to explain anything to me. They did a clan purge a week after I became a member, they kicked everyone out, telling all active members to rejoin. Convieniently, my several attempts to rejoin were ignored.
As a result, I have resisted asking to join any Dust corporations.
I have two characters with approx 2 mill SP each. One a "logibro" type build, the other a scout/sniper (more emphasis on the sniping bit ATM). Obviously backup roles, but roles I feel with a little help and the right training could make me a team asset instead of a liability.
I interchange between both chars regularly, so I would prefer them both to be in the same Corporation to avoid confusion on my end. .
If it's alright with you I would like to join Dust University with both of my chars, Daylon and Damien Daxx. I'll apply for both, if I get your OK.

I do a purge at the beginning of every month for players who who haven't been active in the month before. This is just to keep the membership active and I always put out a corp mail warning players to sign in with an alts in the corp.

I have almost 18mil so, with 7 spread across all tanks nd turrets, and the rest spent building a callogi mass driver fit.
I'm a leading expert (ask anyone) on tank v tank tactics, llav builds, and tactics at the squad and team level. I've played for and against the very best corps New Eden has ever had and never lost a tank battle (not to say I don't blow up but I don't lose 1 v 1). My infantry tactics are very good, too. I spent a lot of time teaching and playing with new playersfor the last month. I'm taking q break from PC to teach and working on my own isn't efficient enough.

We have a couple of Sniper guides in our private corp forums but equally there are good ones available in the public forums as well.
What I like to think we provide more than anything is a calming and pleasant environment, in which to play and squad up with corp members and those in our Public Channel Comms.D-UNI at your own pace before moving on to one of the more hardcore corps.

Hey Fellow DUST, I'm really new here. Played a few FPS like MW3 and also Halo but DUST 514 is really new to me.
Question 1: what should I be focusing on for my dropsuits?

First of all use the free fittings while you build up a good cushion of SP deciding which of the roles and races you'd like to explore.
Don't be tempted to put all your skills into the weapons straight away. The dropsuit upgrade tree and which dropsuit role/race should be your key concern. These skills will serve you better in the long run.
There are cheap militia version of most vehicles and some of the packs have AUR versions of them for you to try.
But the best bit of advice I can give is read, re-read and read again the descriptions and requirements of all the skills you buy and spend SP on. It better to keep those SP unallocated till you decide what to do with them. o7

bump, i was wondering whether u guys were active.
Complaint- many players I recommended that they join DU came back to me, saying that they were neglected and they felt they were being farmed off of, rather than being helped.
I can only please one person per day. Today is not ur day, tomorrow doesn't look too bright either.

A valid perception to be honest.
However, on joining a new member is given 30+ mails with hints, tips and guides to various aspects of the game. This is done because the level of forum interaction in the total playerbase stands at less than 10%.
This is course means that the remaining 90% has no interaction with other players except in the game directly. Part of the philosophy that I try to impart to new players is to ask other players for help and guidance within the client, in real time. This can be a shattershot approach because it depends how how talkative the players playing at the time are.
It's not a perfect system and it's limited due to the weaknesses of the game corp UI. But the retention rate of players joining D-UNI and other corps is of a magnitude higher than the games base retention rate. And with player numbers growing at the moment (sorry naysayers but they are) that higher retention rate % is going to increase the total number of players joining long term.
There are also a number of changes to the NPE coming up in delta that will hopefully increase retention even more and we'll be monitoring it very closely.

i got kicked out of Dust university way back when i was a new player because i was trolling in my local chat. but i got to say they were very helpful in my first few days in dust. i don't know if they still give seminars as they were very informative to new players. exempt the guy that told me to put SP into the Saga 2 instead of my core skills

As to the lectures I've no problem doing them again, just a question of finding the time between RL job, CPM duties and new starter induction emails.
I go on holiday for a week of snowboarding in 7 days, so when I'm back I'll try and make an extra effort to start them up again on a semi regular basis.
