This game will fail horrible if it dosent improve a lot and fast, have also read a lot of forums and many say, " what to expect from a F2P game" and have never seen so bad grapich in a beta before and that from beta testers. You can also read comments from the IGN players just played it. www.ign.com
This is a game for the average ps3 player that will play 10 min or 3 ours, no one will play a game that looks like its from 2003 . So really hope you have some improvement coming fast , I am myself looking forward to play the game, but would be nice to se more then 100 online at the time.
Let the game shine CCP and give us 2012 grapich, and dont say that I dont understand the gameplay , I am used to play EVE so I am used to hard gaming, fitting etc.
And that its a F2P game is no excuse to make a bad looking game , would rather pay $70 for a good game then playing a average F2P game.
Hope there will be a Dust 514 event on the next fanfest also.... but this is not looking god. |

Grapichs? of all the major issues, real problems, and sensible arguments, you rail on the grapichs? The Electronics Upgrade skillbook is missing, the Repair Guns need to be worked out, there are three turret models to be made, 2 more dropsuit types, 3 more weapons, corp battles, chat systems, buddy systems, a couple nigh useless skills to tweak, and hit detection is still a tad off and encumbered by auto-aim, and you whing about GRAPICHS?

To be more concise, ever hear of Pokemon? Disgaea? They use sprites, or 'little pixel drawing thingies' to you graphic wh**es. They are two of the most popular games on the planet. Graphics may be nice, but I'll be hanged long before they become the benchmark for a good game. |

If people really wont play a game for bad graphics they missed out on some of the classics on the old consules |

its easy to say dont throw the this is a beta about... but i hate to say it, but it is......
its unfair to review a game ccp dont want to be reviewed yet (NDA)
the reason we know this is purly for test purposes if they havnt even given us the full game yet. were missing the most vital parts of what is going to make dust what it is (ie corp battles).... its like judging a car before they even put the engine in or the panels on....
not to mention the forced NDA.
im guessing none of those reviewers were in the last build. i was and if you saw that and think what we have now is bad. jez last build was amazingly bad. its jumping in leeps and bounds. its to early to be fairly judged.
finally people very quickly forget when looking at this game. its completly free.... and for standards of pounds pur quality then this has to be the best games of all times. |

i agree with the first guys video about the shooting mechanics feel bad..if i am completely honest to ccp to help them as a console gamer , as it stands i prefer playing bf3 due to the fact the controls in dust feel clunky and i find it hard to keep my crosshair on the persons body constantly wich i can do in battlefield games and cod games, for me the only reason atm i prefer bf3 is the controls feel way way smoother for that game and easier to track my target with my sights while ads. but i know ccp can improve this. if it feels good to control, and players feel in totally in control of what they are doing, it will be a success. I have come to respect ccp because they listen to there players. the open beta should be an interesting time for ccp, proberly the most important. |

When playing, you aren't really seeing the graphics, and I'd rather something that flows at 30+ fps, than really really pretty graphics.
That said, look at the difference between the previous build, and this one. Night and day. Apples and Oranges. ****, and not-****.
Then get up to speed on what the Unreal 3 Engine is capable of, and you'll start to see where Dust might end up at.
There are still room for improvements, but I'd rather the devs spend their time on fixing the glitches they find in the game itself, before they start spending time on the graphics. |

I am definitely of the gameplay over graphics group. Amazing graphics are great but if the gameplay isn't up to much no long term playability. IMO Dust is hopefully going to offer long term playability especially when connected into EVE.
I never played the last build but I have high hopes for the game and that the graphics will improve. I do agree though that the controls aren't the best at the moment, again something that I'm sure will be fixed.
I look forward to seeing what comes with the next build. |

Just got around to the 'reviews'... and I gotta say, between the videos and comments the 'reviewers' are on a level below the mentally handicapped. Calling out glitches for tower camping, dressing down the graphics of a BETA for not reaching release quality, and otherwise just rampant NDA traipsing. |

In all honesty, don't we want both top shelf graphics and excellent game play? I don't think having the best of one should exclude the other. The developers of this game can more than handle that task. The proof is that I have more FUN playing this nearly broken, unbalanced, piece of crap beta THAN ANY OTHER GAME I've played in years! It's like CCP got inside my head and figured out exactly what I want from a FPS. They set out to create the greatest 'something' of all time. Be it console game, FPS, console MMO, video game or what have you. Don't let them to lower their standards now. Demand they give their best effort and we be rewarded with the only game anyone needs to play (combined with Eve, of course-bought a new laptop just so I had a decent system to download and play it on :) ) for the rest of the PS3's life cycle. |

This being my umpteenth Beta i have played, this is standard graphics. Anyone who has done at least one beta in the past will tell you the graphics are the last to be totally fixed. seeing as how graphics do not make the game but how the controls, interface, and other more important things work. The graphics will be at full about 2weeks to a month before official release of the game. Right now the best thing you can do is play the game when it is up, find bugs, give suggestions on how things can be improved, tell them what you did not like about the game, and what you liked about it. Graphics should only be your concern if your gun is floating above some guys head or how sometimes in the Comms match a tank turret will get stuck in the air and be there for the whole match. |

It is quite simple. Console players are not use to a PC style beta. Dust 514 is doing a PC mmo style beta. aka events every weekend or every few weekends for mass testing and putting the build through the grinder. While a more polished and aggressive build is tested internally. These are what PC gamers refer to as REAL betas. This is because the game is not nearly finished and everything is subject to change.
Console players don't experience real betas very often. What they see are demos dressed up to look like betas when they are really just very very very final balance adjustments. The companies tell players they are participating in a beta when it is really final product promotion. This is why you are seeing many bad reviews, they do not understand what a beta is. They do not understand that betas are not review material.
They will not be missed when the game is released. |

I absolutely hate people sometimes. Regardless of your impression of the game the TC apparently has no idea what a beta is. This is a true beta as a previous poster has said that is using player feedback and monitoring their systems to make tweaks to builds and test various aspects of the game before piecing them all together as a whole. When games such as Halo and CoD have a "beta" they aren't letting you test the game so they can improve it, they are giving you a final release of the game for a weekend hoping you get addicted and buy it when its released the following week. The difference is that those games have gone "gold" before beta (going gold means that the final code has been sent of to the ESRP to get a rating and when it is approved they can start mass producing) and thus are making no changes what so ever aside from trying to pull you into the game while they start pumping out discs.
This game is in closed beta, it has its problems as almost anyone will admit but to chop a game apart for these issues in such an early stage is just idiotic. If you've browsed the game at all you've noticed that most of the features have a "SOON" tag. That alone should be a give away that "oh this game is still being worked on".
I do find it funny though how people never learn. For years people have been breaking NDA's and giving terrible reviews for beta's only to play a release version of the game and give it a good review. There should be a site that gathers beta reviews and release reviews and compares them just to show reviewers how stupid they are at thinking a game will look just like the beta on release. |

I agree, and I think this is the main issue. I've only played consoles (no PC hate just never bought a nice PC) and I think a lot of console gamers went into the beta thinking it was a demo. Since they're playing a raw form of the game they're experiencing a little bit of mental breakdown because it goes against what they're used to. Dust has so much potential they want it all and they want it now as opposed to watching it grow. Myself personally the first time I played it I said this sucks and walked away, but later thought better of it and had some fun when I came back to it. To console gamers out there I say this; yeah some of it's broken right now, but have some fun with it and enjoy the improvements that are made over time. This game is being designed to have a loooooong shelf life and this is just the beginning. |

The guy in the first video pointed out that Dust is CCP's first FPS. What he didn't mention was that Eve is CCP's first game. And from that view they have done one hell of a good job. Not only have they made an MMO that runs on a single server but they are adding another aspect to it that runs on entirely different gaming system. Nobody has ever done anything like what they are doing. So sit back and relax. If you can't, you know where the door is. |

Sure, a few rough edges but nowhere near as rough as I thought it would be.
My only complaint is the load/start sequence.

Disgaea rocks big time, because of the Story behind the game and the good and funny gameplay. I would not say that it is a game for kids.
Dust 514 rocks also. I like the Skillsystem and the idea behind this game. We are not here to test the Graphic alone. We test the Mechanic of this game and the Balance. Graphic is the lowest point on the List I think to test.
So keep up testing and see later on how the graphic will be on the next builds.

As someone who has been involved in developing First Person Shooters in the past, I can actually tell you that Graphics actually have a considerable effect on the gameplay.
In-fact there have been times where "balancing" a weapon often has less to do with changing the stats behind it and far more to do with tweaks made to the animation or perspective... the issue comes down to the game accurately portraying the action that is happening, which graphics have a major effect upon.
Although I very much doubt most reviewers or even players who want their games to look photo-realistic understand this when they ask for better graphics ... so I'd probably be with others saying graphics in those terms are less important, but even something as subtle as how much colour is in the scene (which right now DUST looks very washed out and bland colour-wise) can have an immense impact on a players enjoyment.
There are frankly more things wrong with DUST than simply graphics though. Collision and Performance are considerably poor still. Sure the performance was greatly improved (particularly network wise) with the last update, but the Physics are still incredibly poor quality.
Prior to adding any "variation" weaponry or such, it is greatly important that features such-as Physics, Maps, etc... receive the highest priority with very regular (these should be at the very least WEEKLY updates) so that regular feedback can be provided.
At the pace that CCP are currently pushing out updates there is almost no point to providing feedback as it can be up to a month before any changes are acted upon - this means by the time we provide feedback we are already using an old build.
As it stands DUST right now feels like a Community Modification, with people who don't seem to know what they're doing but want to give it a go. I have no problem with this when it comes to ModDB projects, but for a game intended to be a AAA Console Title this honestly is unacceptable.
Saying "Oh well DUST will be unqiue, so won't be competing with Game X" ... sorry but that is just crap. Regardless if you want it to be compared to the other AAA titles, it WILL be. This means the game either has to step-up in terms of quality or the community that will end up playing it will be too nitch+¬ to support it and end up fading away.
The game that everyone keeps bringing up MAG might've have a fantastic concept and been fun for those who played it, but fact is it is no longer online... thus dead. Look at it through whatever rose-tinted glasses you like doesn't change this fact either. It had the potencial to survive for the lifetime of the PlayStation 3, where-as you look at Halo 3 for example; which STILL has an adverage of 1million concurrent players.
When you keep in mind that games like Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, which sold 7x as many copies as Halo 3 only have an average of 1.5-2million concurrent players... it might dawn just how important quality and gameplay is. I would say as it stands, CCP have thier priorities and focus wrong. |

Raven I agree...still everyone keep telling me "this is a beta...this isn't X FPS/VG". Even Kojima or Miyamoto take due consideration of what other developers do, even take inspiration, but around here people seems to believe that CCP should not do it, that CCP is above this mentality.

its funny to read bloodfans telling us to use the door and leave and that we dont understand the game , do not matter, this time I think CCP must and will make a game that has to do it well in the public , money talks. I do think many players (bloodfans) whant it to start with a low playerbase and then increase after a wile, I think Dust 514 must do it well in the begining or it will fade a way.
Thats wy I am stressing this, even asked same question to the devs on fanfest on how bad it looks. I whant this game to be good.
And if you remember from fanfest one of the last thing said from the stage and showing on the screen, " we whant to be the best game in 2012"
watch dust keynote on youtube or www.dust514.com .
And it also looks like all bad comments must come from a 14 year old, I am 45 myself and think I am rather reflective, but my english spelling is bad, but after all I am from a non english people |

i play the battlefield series when not testing dust, and where dust is at this point in time, im having more fun playing the bf series. yes this is beta and things are improving but this game will be compared to bf3 and cod and as it needs to bring in the playerbase from these games dust needs to compete, lets face it the game goes live in a few months time. i'll tell you the core reasons i prefer bf over dust atm for me and a few friends that had beta access and quit.
no1. reason we prefer battlefield , is the controls feel slugish and not smooth to shoot in dust, shooting someone while ads, it's very jerky when trying to stay on the target, feels bad to me, i dont have this problem in bf at all, the controls are very smoth and not jerky at all even while ads. im sure ccp can make it smoother and less jerky.
no2. reason atm is balance. i enjoy bf more due to everyone is on a level playing field that people that have been playing longer than me can still be killed easy enough due to my fps skills from day 1
no3 reason is the spawning atm is terrible, i know this is being fixed but im stating why at this point in time i prefer there competition.
4. throwing grenades still is weird still doesnt feel like im throwing it, more like it just spawns out of my chest and flies off into the distance, and also i have no idea where its gonna land, wich feels weird
5. no way to group with my friends, bugs the hell outa me ha
i do prefer the way vehicles cost money and there is risk to using them, this is better than battlefield, but i really dont think militia vehicles should be in the final build. all vehicles should be purchased.
i also love the way we earn sp and skill up that way.
i respect ccp more than dice currently, but atm bf feels more Fun at this point in time due mostly to the controls, and that i cant be useful as a team member, wich currently i feel like a lone wolf even when in a squad. nobody seems to use the squad leader abilities. and i have no idea when people need ammo for me to drop.
like i said this game is months away from release so im comparing how i currently feel about coming from my current game i play, into dust. dust is will be the better game at release im sure of it, and what they say there adding - new game modes, pve , betting low/ null sec all sounds great so im looking forward to dusts official release. just make sure the core mechanics / physics of the game are polished before official release plz.

To keep it short, ccp is asking us what's wrong with the gameplay and issues. The graphics WILL come later, if you watch the e3 video and the fanfest touney, they had a more updated graphics skin.
And this is ccp we're talking here, they arent going to settle with an "ok" game, that sh1* is gonna constantly get updated compared to other games. |

Oh my god.
Yes, obviously CCP has no clue how to make a game look good. I mean look at the screen shots below I got from my EVE client. God, their art/graphics dept is just terribad.
Now it looks like this
Two years ago it looked like this.
Yep, no track record there. . .
By the way My CPU is a single core 2.2ghz Celeron with 3 gigs of RAM and the Graphics card is a 1gig DDR3 ATI, so it's not like this is powerhouse gaming rig territory here. 4.3 Windows score.
Seriously. Worry about core gameplay right now, if it's two weeks away and it look like minecraft, worrry. Right now there are other things to worry about. I'd rather they fix the gameplay & implement the stuff marked "Soon(TM)" than the shiny-shiny bullcrap right now. |

Those bad reviews are mostly fueled by raging CODers who never understood the game... I heard one guy in those leaked vid say : " i never understood how to change my fit" and another one "as it's a beta, fits can't be changed"....
So screw them. The game isnt perfect but those "2 day reviews" makes me laugh. How about NDA ? if they cant understand that....
Regarding the last posts. Dust will never compete with BF3 and COD, that's a fact. Why ?
=> Only one game released (not annual crap) => Free => Constant evolution => MMO & FPS
Then, if you need to compare the gameplay, it is also NOT on the same playground than COD or BF3. Played both games. Got bored quickly.
BF3 is supposed to be a war simulation ( huge recoil, low health, slow movements, OP vehicles) and COD is the ARCHETYPE of the casual FPS game (quick unscopped, one bullet weapons usable in rush, perks, killing spree reward)
Dust has a more arcadey, pacey feeling. Some people will NEVER like the feel of it. But personnaly, i already played A LOT more of Dust in the beta than BF3 or COD. And add A LOT more fun also. It's all about your own point of view.
Regarding Graphics, who cares ? I can understand what Raven said regarding animations. But seriously, the game is quite fine already and we're still at least 2-3 builds away from the game to be released imho. And even then, if graphics are average, i just wont give a **** for as long as i have the deep gameplay i'm looking for.
A bit like civilization compared to other war games. People actually told me it's ugly and slow. Well, i'll take a CIV 6 everyday instead of a Starcraft 3.
Regarding MAG, it died because of its developpers who never maintenanced their servers properly, never understood how the game needed to evolve, listened way too often some stupid people and their whining demands, and more important : Lacked the true ambition to make its concept succeed => actual persistence. |

Anyone saying it's fun and you've played it more than any other FPS? That's because it's easy. There is very little skill in the gun play. Point click, let bullet spread get you te kill. Because we all know hip fire is more accurate than aiming lol. I agree graphics come later, but they must come. Also, for those saying "CCP will add updates" guess what happens when you delete a game? You don't check for updates. Because it was garbage. @The guy who said MAG is dead. I have a clan battle this weekend, as do 3 or 4 other clans. Seriously, come play MAG, I'll show you what dead is. I popped on last night and was like "wtf, everyone is on?" Tbh I think so many people are disappointed currently, they will happily play a 3 year old game, with bad graphics, and many flaws, because it's more fun.
@People who didn't see the bad reviews comming. LOL. IGN guys played for a day or 2. IGN guys are known for making vids. Really, CCP, if you have an NDA in place, don't keep letting random little groups on. IGN will be talking about how terrible Dust was until it gets released. Then they'll sit there and go "LoLDust" Seriously, I appreciate CCP don't do marketing, but for goodness sake, a closed beta should be closed. Otherwise just open it up for everyone. |

To be perfectly honest, I love the aesthetic of DUST. The graphics themselves leave a lot to be desired, but the underlying design is a pleasure to look at. Taking a second to look at the intricacy of a shotgun on your character reveals the detail put into the weapon.
The low resolution, texture pop-in, and low quality textures can always be changed, but the aesthetic was nailed down perfectly. |

One of the only gripes I have with Dust is no KB/M support yet. This wouldn't be a big deal and I can ignore dust altogether if they didn't state that it was going to have it. I am really quite terrible with the sticks and only play PC shooters for this reason. I cannot play more than a few games without wanting to throw my controller through the TV :D
If they plan on backing out of the KB/M support I wish they would really just come out and say it so those of us waiting for it can just get over it. I love the EVE universe and love FPSs, but I prefer to play with them on a platform that allows my preferred input method. If they do decide to back out of KB/M support I can take my sad panda self elsewhere or plug back into EVE. |

OP, you do realize that those reviews are based on "unauthorized" videos posted on YouTube about a game that is "not finished", right? CCP hasn't even allowed us to post any such information on the court of public opinion because it is a "closed beta".
Such reviews will hurt CCP in terms of potential customers (AUR buyers) being discouraged to use the game while at the same time potentially undermining the effort of CCP to expand on the Eve universe through Dust. The game is not done yet and if people are basing their opinions on an unfinished game in public than this will almost kill Dust before it's even launched. Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. |

I know this is really late. But the reason that a lot of these things are so bad is because if they were all high end and up to today's standards we'd have HORRIBLE memory issues due to the focus needed on the BIGGER problems such as FPS mechanics, which is supposed to be changed a bit next build (Look the video up yourselves I am NOT your personal proof gathering slave), and other things like connection errors, invalid fits, loads of other crap that, believe it or not, is MOST LIKELY going to be resolved by release.
Also Gameplay > Graphics!
Edit: Now for those of you who aren't smart or mentally stable enough to understand my point: Graphics and other things that give the game more quality will rise up to higher standards once the MAJOR testing is finished (Less memory being used because the testing has obviously stopped and moved onto things LIKE THE GRAPHICS)... The logic of the majority of you just... Makes my sides burn from laughter. |

CCP aren't well knowm on the PS3 and there won't be much in the way of loyalty for them and there way of doing things. You make perfect sense! Truth hurts for many of the ccp loyalists and "dust bunnies" on these forums.
i think you place too much credence in brand loyalty and recognition. Sure bald faced consumers will flock to the latest and greatest, specifically for a grand old purchase from a recognised franchise :P, the interest is in association.
Whether or not DUST makes it out of the gates, is up to the DEV's and their controllers, opining about the future release based upon limited data, or by reference to other games in a finished state i'll leave to those that specialise in conjecture.
"truth hurts", but "whose truth, from whose perspective?"
Cmon next build! :P I wants looks at ewar and its affect on the meta game .....(at which point may i be better informed of whether or not DUST is the game for me....) |
