I could be wrong and there could be a legitimate way to get up there, but, people are getting on top of the towers in numbers with swarm launchers. They are eliminating the ability to fly a dropship and they are essentially impossible to kill because they are too high up for anything other than a sniper rifle to reach. So unless your whole team is sniping, your SOL.
Maybe it could be made so that the very tops of the towers are out of bounds so whole teams can't camp up there. |

Exploit? Really?
I'm trying to decide between going with "working as intended" or "when a mommy dropship and a daddy dropship love each other very much they give each other a special hug which creates a baby dropship that can fly people to the tops of the towers. sometimes their brother and sister dropships fly other people up there to squish them while they try to snipe".
So, yeah. There's that. |

I doubt this will be fixed as technically it isn't an exploit.
however, some sort of ceiling should be added to how high those lil bastards can go up.
It is certainly noobish to fly up there with a viper launcher and get 50 odd kills in a single game.

It's turrets that kill you, not swarm launchers, and you have a vantage to over 50% of the battlefield from any given tower to spam missiles into. Swarm launchers can't lock on from that distance, in my experience, which makes taking the ships parked up there down even more of a pain.
Just going to go ahead and quote myself from the other thread about this.
Cobalt Monkey wrote:James Trendall wrote:gangsta nachos wrote:It's only scrubby players that can't get kills I agree if there isn't a pilot there should be no power to the weapons because the ship will be off Compared to players using the dropship as a bulldozer? I would rather use the turrets on the dropship laying down cover for the team then use it to squish other players. If they make it so the piolet has to be in the dropship to be able to power the turrets then it will result in 2 people in the dropship shooting from the tower's. And that would solve what exactly? For starters, it would require a commitment to teamwork between the two instead of just letting everyone do it. And since there wouldn't be anything in it for the Pilot SP-wise... And at the very least it gets one more person off the field of play for their side. Of course, you would also have to be unable to spawn LAVs and Tanks up there too, or you're just trading the problem of one hard to reach turret for another that's an even smaller target. I do fight back against tower gunners. I take my Forge Gun to them as best I can. But the ability to do this offers too many advantages due to the game's current limitations. They can be quite difficult to see at all, let alone aim at, due to the bright lights on the tower fronts. In the overview map they blend almost perfectly with the towers in the top down view, though this is somewhat countered because you can see a constant spray of missiles. If parked sufficiently back can avoid being marked altogether. Worst of all, if you're not close enough to the tower they're perched on they are completely invisible, as in do not load to be seen."Get your own and knock it down" isn't always viable either since they will generally have plenty of time to shoot you before you can get to them. If you want to fly up and shoot it down, then that requires a pilot and a gunner, two people to their one. And with the current state of communication being so hit or miss, simply communicating what needs done can be impossible.
Would appreciate some Word of God on whether or not it's supposed to be possible to get up there at all to put to bed the fight over this.
Even if it's not a glitch, I do believe it's a balance issue that needs fixed. |

In regards to there "not being power" when there's no pilot in an aircraft, that's just plain wrong. Today's aircraft have auxiliary power units that enable certain functions of an aircraft to be operated (hydraulics and electricity) WITHOUT the engine running. It doesn't take a pilot to turn on an APU. So, if this technology is available today, what might there be in future aircraft?
Another thing to take into consideration is this: are the weapons even electronically controlled? If not, you wouldn't even need an APU for that in the first place.
I know it's off topic...

On a side note a drop ship has the same functionality as a helicopter would including that it definitely won't stay there hovering if you jump out in mid flight. Though realistically it should just hover gently on the ground if the pilot leaves the ship in mid flight since this is the world of automated AI and anti-gravity vehicles. |

This is more of an issue for tanks having a huge scan resolution when it comes to spotting chevrons, thus allowing then to spam from up there, simply drop the range and they can't do anything by just sitting up there without having someone at the objectives spotting for them as you already have to hit pretty close (as in between the eyes) without putting SP on turret skills. |

Is this too offending? My bad.
To answer the questions (once again) Dropships can bring you on top of the tower, then if someone drops a Droplink you can directly spawn on top of it. Did you know you can also ride the MCC?
The Problem is: If there is no nanohive on the tower the players will have to jump from the tower to get some ammunition. You might be able to see 50% of the Battlefield, but effectively 30% to 40% are out of clipping distance (because the tower is too damn high), as already stated Missiles wont lock on most of the things (except Dropships who are conveniently getting near you). You too can only get the ground infantry with sniping rifles (well i do not know about forge guns or mass drivers)
So basically those towers are a good place for snipers with nanohives and droplinks to guard a certain (but not unlimited) space from ground infantry.
Its way worse if you're on the MCC, the collision model does not match what you see, i have tried to shoot down an enemy on top of the mcc but he was guarded by the mcc Collision model. At least it felt so.
I do agree however, that dropping a tank on the tower is a bit too much, the funny thing is, when i tried to do it, i got the message "place cannot be reached" or something like that, which makes tanks on towers even more mysterious
what is with the turrets of a gorgon i cant say as i havent used them to attack ground troops (only other dropships and that dam person on the mcc) |

I don't see it as an exploit, just players working out ways to get cheap kills. Yes it is frakking annoying, yes it can is a right pain, but hopefully you have a couple of guys in your team who notice and take it out, or do it yourself, if no-one else is, so easy points up thereif they are too concentrated on killing down below.
Remember it's also just one map. Each map brings it's own unique challenges to the battle and it's up to the player to take any advantage and work out a counter to it. CCP'll be learning a heap from how people are playing the map and it will be used in the algorithyms used to create the map districts for each planet. |

Just make it 'Titan mode', add turrets on MCC and we're all cool. Asides from the half-joke (I do want a Titan style game mode seriously though), as much as they are annoying, as long as there are counters (like flying up there or sniping), there's no problem with it.

Check out BF2142 'Titan mode'. You'll probably love it, and wonder why Dust can't do it.
Dust's skirmish is very akin to the 'Titan mode' in BF2142. In 2142, while the ground troops held control of the missile silo that attacked the Titan = Duts't objective which attacks the MCC, you were also able to board the 'Titan' = MCC, and detonate the core directly to bring it down.
Attacking(defending) forces were able to choose whether they wanted to assault the titan to bring it down directly, or held control of the ground to slowly kill the titan, or any combination in between. This created battles all over the field. While assaulting the titan was a direct, fast way to victory, if that was not possible, you were still able to win if you managed the ground-bound missile silos. And vice versa to the defending team.
In my opinion, the 'Titan mode' was one of the most intense and fun game mode in an FPS. |

If there was anything I would alter would be the ability to call in vehicles to the roofs of buildings and the use of Uplinks on the roofs of buildings. If you get up there you should have to come down to get resupplied or just die! |

Well you have to come down to resupply unless there was someone smart enough to drop some nanohives. Its the same as everywhere, if you have no nanohive you have to get to the nearest resupply point. Droplinks are especially made to establish spawn zones all over the map, so why limit them to ground level? Only so that you can stop looking up (from now and then) and concentrate on looking left and right? There are also snipers on the socket of those sky scrapers, they are also annoying as hell, but nobody say anything about it. Why? Because you can sneak up on them and kill them from behind? you can also do that with the people on the skyscraper. |

Hahahahaha, 50 odd kills? Really? The most I've ever seen one of those nubcakes do is 10-15. 90% of the time the can't even keep anyone from taking the letters right out from under them. If they weren't invisible due to draw-in they wouldn't even bother going up there because the forge guns would knock them off from across the map.
They're basically exploiting the draw distance. If CCP can't improve their draw distance they'll have to restrict the flight ceiling. Simple as that. |
