I actually feel cautiously optimistic that might be the best move.
Q syncing will still be much easier anyways with 2 8-man squads.
If you need 2 squad leaders to deploy 16 players into a match then it is one too much. If people are going to q-sync anyway then at least make their lives easier by adding team deploy to FW. Cause in the end of the day when one of the squad leaders is not deploying into the same match then they are cancelling the search an try again. Which then leads to FW matches starting with 8 people down on one side.
Like always, there are a few things to consider.
- Balance issue potential - Condensing the majority of FW into a single match. Perhaps randoms will say "well, I'm not in the big team deploy, there's clearly no point in playing FW". I would worry FW might downgrade into two teams that play each other over and over. - Like above, lack of diversity amongst players.
It's not like these issues don't exist already mind you, but that doesn't mean we should design the game to make these flaws worse. Eventually, making FW battles 32v32, or even larger would help this.
But even then, we boil down to the problem of the small community to begin with.
End of the day, I just think we're being a little too premature with the freakouts on this matter. FW (along with a lot of other features) is getting a huge improvement. Let's remember that.

So will a raid just be like a normal match where you have to declare your attack and wait for a small ice age? or will it be almost instant and you fight whatever the enemy can muster at that that time?

Right now smaller squads can make a difference since it takes time to manage a full q-sync. I have waited up to an hour (or more) before entering one game. How many FW games have passed during that time? Platoons in FW would basically require an overhaul where we can select our target, and make a conscious choice of what opponents to face.
There is no match making in FW. Prepared to get slaughtered

And if two platoons would que then its very much likely that they are ending up fighting each other.

At least you won't have the Que synch with 3 separate squads anymore to get a full team. Synching two 8 man squads will be much easier than Synching 3 squads.

People need to remember that syncing 2 8man squads will still objectively be easier than syncing 3 squads. Whether or not we can deploy platoons to FW, syncing just got simpler. This is a step in the right direction.

They're just there to hold the space until the actual items CCP intends to be there are ready. No different than your friend putting your popcorn in the seat next to them to hold a place for you while you use the bathroom. The items in the screenshot are not what's going to be offered.

Piercing Serenity wrote:Gotcha. Maybe this is a way to keep FW organized without completely edging out non-corp players?
Personally I hope they end up rethinking this when they make a pass on FW.
I hope to see corporations able to sign up for factions. With team deploy available in FW it would encourage a channel like the State Task Force or Lucent Eschelon to form corporations. Earning command points as a group to perform raids and/or PC attacks as an added bonus to their members.
This along with trading loyalty items would cause a huge boost in interest in FW.
To me it is two birds with one stone. You've got multiple groups fighting as a team in FW constantly. They do their weekly PC attack (or whatever the rate of CP earned dictates) and they would likely find it worthwhile to own a few districts.
I may be crazy, but I think this is the blueprint for huge success. Dust shines as a team game and these changes make it lucrative to choose to play the game at it's highest levels for the newest players as well as PC vets. |

I think a lot of the people hanging on obviously want to see a promising future. These updates are great, but I hope CCP sees the potential in taking Dust to a new platform soon and announces something.

I'd like to see a couple of additions to this in later iterations: Diminishing returns on using the same players for PC over and over. If you're heavily incentivized to use more people from your roster, this would make PC more accessible to the "Junior Varsity" players in a corp and it will reduce burnout on the "Varsity" guys, both of which would be positive. I will reduce drama and encourage the best players to help the worse ones improve.
I'd also like to see the addition of a mechanism where district holders could improve their districts through upgrades they buy with ISK + CP, to "make it theirs," which would create an upkeep cost for each district that would scale with the upgrades. One example would be for all turrets to begin the match blue. You could have various turret upgrades like virus countermeasures to significantly increase the hack time on them, or increase the range, or have improved AI on them to target infantry, not just vehicles, or increased turret health etc. Raiding could be a way to weaken these upgrades in a prelude to a real attack.
I'd also like to see the physical geography of the various districts be more relevant, so that owning districts in close proximity is easier than spreading out. I'm not entirely sure how that should work, but it seems like a logical approach.
As far as FW goes, I think adding the ability to select where you attack with team deploy would be a major improvement. EVE should get some changes as well so they can see fights in system more easily.
Best PvE idea ever!

I know most people here are excited about the PC & FW changes and understandably so. Personally, I am excited about the fireteams and the shrinkage of a squad in pub matches to 4 mercs. It will maybe make the matches a tad more even, which means enjoyable, and possibly lead to a drop in people leaving the match before they even deploy in.
