HOWEVER - I see one pretty critical problem right out the gate? How are squads orders going to be handled with larger teams? If we q-sync two 8-man squads into an FW are we going to have to disperse mid-battle into 4-man fireteams so that squad leads can run their own plays?
Why are Platoons barred from FW? Wasn't that a big point of team deploy; to get more competitive teams into FW without the need for unreliable q-syncing?
We -really- need to be able to invite/manage squads again, otherwise team deploy is going to come with a lot of pain and suffering on the micro-management level, I think.
I read through the devblog twice, and didn't see anything saying that Platoons are barred from FW

If FW ever gets a "Front line" Mechanic (I.e. The Caldari have pushed us to System X, and need to capture this system to move deeper into our space), then I think your suggestion would be nice to deploy teams to fight these front line battles specifically. The 8 man teams would be dispersed "as needed" across different districts.

Don't live in the past. What's done is done. The best thing that we can do is have a more promising future. And players are a lot easier to come by than morale.

8 man squads is not practical in a 16v16 unless its a 3 point map. However, 6 man squads for 16v16 wasn't perfect either. Instead of changing the squad capacity, the amount of players in battle should be adjusted for FW and PC
Squads capacity should remain 6, and FW and PC should become 18v18, and platoons should hold squads, not replace them.
Also allow platoons in FW for flux sake
As far as I understand it, the squad capacity is capped at 8. You don't need to fill that, though. You could make four teams of four for a 5-point map, two teams of 5 and one team of 6 for a 4-point map, etc. Only the upper limit of squad counts have been raised. That doesn't effect the intermediate number of people that can be in a squad
