To me, DUST 514 is one of the last gleaming diamonds in the age of terribad Triple AAA games that are so cookie cutter and bland you can't tell one from the next annual money grab.
This game is so unbelievably dynamic and so full of potential that I just can't leave it alone. I've been with this game since the near beginning of Mordu's Trials. In the three years leading up to know I for some reason adopted a non FotM behavior that, to my detriment, caused me to become unbelievably angry at this game. More so than I have an other game I've played, and contrary to how I come off on the forums I'm a pretty patient guy so for a game to make me angry to the point of refusing to play it takes quite a bit of work. Regardless of the age of Apocalypse dropships, lasers, raining orbitals etc. even in those eras of near unplayable gameplay I still wanted to come back, a lot of us did.
I came back, because this game offered something that no other game offers. A feeling of personal progression and possession and lore so intricate and depthless you can just get lost in it and don't even have to play the game to enjoy the world of New Eden.
And it doesn't just stop at the gameplay itself but this community is so great I don't even have to play the game and just chat away with any guys in my various chat channels and have a good time and good laughs. I've made good friends and lasting relationships in this game and along the way helped me cope with some things going on in my personal life. Even on the forums, the communication between our players, nothing comes close to it that I know we get down each others throats from time to time but I really do appreciate most of you guys and the entertainment and feedback we provide.
I'm just rambling about how much I love this game and CCP and I'll explain about the why now.
Point is, I love this game deeply. There's a personal attachment to this game that I have and want to help make it better. As a long time player of this game I've experienced first hand what does and does not work and will hopefully do my best to steer us clear of the repeated mistakes that we are still suffering from.
I started out as a scrub, worked my way up, waged war against an alliance that had complete control of the star map just to become the the new enemy to control the entire starmap to fight off the remaining player base that joined together to defeat our EoN alliance which we still won and eventually fell victim to the release of the ps4, boredom and stagnicity which DUST suffered from at the time. After all that I went into Fatal Absolution and did what I always did but now I felt a need to not just go where the good players. I became tired of blueing up with all the good players in an alliance and then wonder "why is there no competition?" I decided to carve my own path and started training up new players and getting more active in FW as a means to since FW is the bridge between Pubs and PC and we will officially create a Lucent Echelon corporation when everything is ready in place.
Now the point of all that rambling is to explain that I know how it is. Starting out is absolutely terrible, it's not fun and it should be a heck of a lot easier on newer guys than it is now. Even with the improvements to the NPE we still could do better.
I also know the importance and great feeling of triumphance and thrill when you win as the underdog or stomp out the opposition as a ruler and now, the helping trying to teach players how to get more organized to go up against higher tier players. My heart is where FW is but I understand and know from experience that these game modes need improvements to them in general. Also understand that just because I desperately want FW in a better state doesn't mean it will happen, CPM doesn't have the magical power of always convincing the game developers to do specifically what one person may want to do.
Once again, I apologize for randomly ranting, It's 3am here and I should probably stop trying to talk and just wait for me to make a coherent post for you.
Urgh, I'll just post highlights before I keel over in my chair.
- Importance of Lore is highly important with me and should be evident in the game / parallels with EVE - Lore must not get in the way of fun and balance - There is room for translation and compromise
- Active with the community - Active within the game itself - Veteran experience with DUST 514 being here for 3 years - Extremely familiar with this game - Not biased, as much as people love to get my ingrained Gallente Role Play heavily confused with complete "OP" dominance. A flavor of the month eviornemnt is extremely unhealthy for any game .
- Listens to people - Talks to people - I'm not one for holding things back. Unless it's covered in NDA I will let you know what's going on and I will make damn sure that your problems are being acknowledged. - I've got no problem acknowledging that I'm wrong or have been wrong regardless of what some would like to think. - I'm Straightforward - I am a DUST 514 player
Negatives:
- I will say though I don't feel I have many, just a really big one. My biggest, glaring negative is being hot tempered when dealing with certain people my patience drops to near zero when offended and I've been working on that heavily.
- I sometimes get tunnel vision with some ideas of mine but luckily I have my skype channels I talk to to try and see any errors of my ideas before I post them on the forums.
- I'm only a Sergeant and not a Captain.
I wish I could type more but I should really sleep, work tomorrow. I think a Podcast or live text chat Q & A would be most appropriate for this kind of question.
Anywho, night guys. Special appreciation if you actually managed to read through that incoherent rabble of a post.

Until CCP announces a pending election, this is all very neat but very pointless.
I personally believe that there is a very thin likelihood that CCP will announce any changes to the CPM before the final fate of DUST is decided and the game is either ported or put on the roster for joining the PS3 in sunset.
I'd be willing to run if I saw any evidence thst DUST will be here after the PS 3 gets taken behind the woodshed and put down gently to spare it the agony of a slow death.

At the Moment my vote will more than likely go to Sgt Kirk, FW is the future, in Dust 514, in Legion, in EvE. However i can see why others will be concerned about him being a CPM. Try to put grudges to one side and think about what he has already contributed. His videos alone show the extent to how effective weapons and tactics can be, he's a dedicated Gallente highly valued asset and Caldari target, he gets a large majority of Gallente FW players to help jump FW (or will do now). he's a main who speaks his mind, and his 'hot temperament' just shows his passion for New Eden.
ok so to balance this heres some Caldari smack talk,

@ Aero, Kirk and FW Lovers - This post blew my mind :-)
MINA Longstrike wrote:Been playing a little mechwarrior online (as I finally have a working computer again)... Holy crap their faction warfare is everything I wish dust fw would be.
So upon clicking 'faction warfare' for the first time you're given a selection of the ~10 factions available, after selecting one you can sign up for a 7day, 14day, 28day or permanent contract (it's possible to break all of these, even the permanent one). The 7day gives +0% extra loyalty points, the 14day is IIRC +20% loyalty, the 28 +30%, and the permanent +50%. From there you're given a selection of planets (along with a list of attackers and defenders fighting for / queuing in the same planet). When you choose a planet you can then choose to attack it either solo, or with your squad (4ppl) or any number up to a 12man deployment which puts you into a lobby up until there's a full group. Once a full group of attackers is formed the opposition is given a "X PLANET IS UNDER ATTACK JOIN TO DEFEND IT!" warning and 10 mins to assemble a group.
From there it goes to a 'protect the area' style match, where the defenders can win by timing the match out or killing all their attackers (each players gets a drop deck of 4 mechs ranging from 160t to 240t total... essentially it's like being given a set number of clones per individual player, let's say 16 clones once you're out you cant spawn in anymore). The attackers win by destroying what amounts to the 'MCC' of the area.
If the attackers win, the next battle on the district is a 'counter attack', where the objective is basically an ambush style match - kill more of your opponents than they kill of you.
After a certain amount of time passes (there's certain allowed attack / defense / cease fire phases that cycle every hour or so) if the attackers hold more districts on a planet, they flip it to their control. If the defenders hold more, they retain control of it. If you control a planet, you can attack the planets adjacent to it.
It's such an awesome system and I think with some work, something resembling it could be implemented in dust.
It's also possible to form up for 'defense' matches too, which gives a ping to people going 'come attack this place' and just being signed up to a faction causes you to recieve constant pings about what planets need defenders / attackers. It also tosses you into a 'militia' channel where you can organize things (for example we had ~250 people attacking/defending a single planet earlier). Oh and I forgot to mention - If you go to attack a place and an enemy team doesn't form up to counter you within 10 minutes, you get deployed without any opposition, allowing you to rapidly take territory if there's no opposition.
Your LP/isk (equivalent) gains have a set payout for winning a match, and an additional payout based on your in-match performance.

Your good friend Zatara successfully ran a "I'm humble now!" campaign. He's got an ego like you've got a temper, and once elected, it immediately showed. People will say whatever it takes to get a vote. You say you're open-minded now. That you listen to people. That you're working on your hot temper. I hope you are. And if you get elected, I really hope you are.
But after Zatara, I'm not inclined to believe you (you and he are good friends, right?). I'm more inclined to believe that you'll be exactly who you've always been, and that someone is plain to see in your post history.
TL;DR: I think you have good ideas, Kirk, but I think you'd be a terrible community representative.

TL;DR: I think you have good ideas, Kirk, but I think you'd be a terrible community representative. Zatara isn't even my corporation leader anymore, he's an alright guy and I got along with him but I definitely would not say I'm good friends with him like you put it. He left the game as CPM and that doesn't sit well with me.
Also, that quote. Yep. It's nowhere near 90% I remember saying that when I was in one of my frustrated moods. No right to say it as nasty as it was back then but that's defiantly one of the anger points I've been working on.
Also, yeah, its pretty clear that I listen to people, I've backed off proposals and changed them entirely because the community explained that they weren't the best ideas.
But amongst all your post that put me in negative light I guarantee you there are four times as many post that are in a good favor and besides posting in the barbershop I haven't been angry in a good long second. You pay attention to what you wish to find and everything isn't all gloom and doom as you wish to find.
But back to Zatara, once again. Not trying to be dismissive of Zatara i respected his goal of trying to beat the big dogs back then and that's why i enlisted but my home was Synergy Gaming, that's where i peaked in full enjoyment of the game. Once it dissolved, i just needed a temporary place to go to be my corporation and FA ended up being a longer than expected stay due to lack of corporations. If you guys think FA guys are toxic the things I've seen make me blush compared to that. With us making a new corporation soon i will soon call that my home but I am not "good friends" with anybody in this game besides about 8 people. Most of whom I am forming the corp with.
Lastly, I am not Zatara. I wouldn't dare leave the game for a casual, soulless, "AAA" game like destiny. The only thing that would keep my from this game is real life issues and I'm a man of commitment. When you say you're going to take up a job by god you better do your damn job to the fullest extent.
Right now he's still trying to find a game to go to and what a surprise, there's not much out there anymore.
P.S. Just saw your "list" and a lot of those are in the same exact threads being duplicated by quotes in said threads.
Really dude?

From what I've been able to determine, bad players like IWS and Soraya contribute pretty much nothing. Forum warriors like Breakin Stuff are also largely clueless and would make for a terrible CPM. IWS at least is able to maintain a degree of popularity due to the regularity of how much he posts, but nothing more.
I believe that there should be a new rule that anyone with less than a 2.0 KDR and 40,000 kills should be barred from running as they clearly have a substandard grasp of how the game works, and are simply looking for acknowledgement and attention. Even when they work hard, the ideas they present can be largely toxic. Pure democracy is a bad solution to any problem, and it should always be reinforced with logical standards. People can be very stupid, after all.

Trying to get him elected, or get him hired by CCP? Haha fair point. There is a fine art to understanding IWSaberese. Even I'm not fluent in it, and I talk with him fairly frequently on Biomassed. No doubt that he's there to communicate....just sometimes needs a translator to get the job done. I've translated many an IWS post in my days hereGǪ This is why I consistently believe him to be a good CPM If you can understand IWS, it's easier to see what he is good at what he does. Separate note. SMB may be somewhat introverted, but what is brought to the table matters. Quiet folks often have great contributions, sadly people don't always have the opportunity to recognize these contributions. I hope that existing people make SMB contributions known. I'd really like to know more about Sir Man Boy's contributions to CPM1. His community interaction has been sparse, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

You heard it here first people!
Himiko clearly has the community in mind whenever he speaks!
Let's play a game... How many personal attacks can YOU find in this post?
WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.

Agreed on both fronts. We have SMB on Biomassed ever so often and he's always quite insightful, and I've been told he does quite well inside the council chambers so to speak.....just wish he was more vocal publicly.
