I think CCP did a horrible job marketing the game, but releasing it too early really set them back in that area.
Dust does great at pushing the team aspect imho.
Marketing with the state of NPE and matchmaking up until now could have very easily been a BAD investment. Both of these have gotten better with Delta, hopefully it will lead to more new player retention and a little bit of actual growth in Dust which could lead to them actually deciding to step up the advertising some in an effort to keep it rolling which personally I doubt that as they do not seem to have created a new road map for Dust / Legion.

There is no way to team deploy outside of PC and most players deploy solo.
That's not capitalizing on the team aspects.

this reminds me a lot of the PS4 vs Xbone arguements. Arrrrgh, they are so annoying. I don't get why gamers have to prove to everyone how hardcore they are by saying how much they dislike something.

It's not about that at all. People on the Bungie forum rage and rage at us for criticizing Destiny, but if we didn't do it, nothing would change and the game would not improve. It would just become about making money and not making quality games.
And yeah, you know what? You're god damn right I want to prove I'm a hardcore gamer. Because I've played some of the best games out there and I can effectively critique any game and accurately tell you whether or not it's even worth dropping a dollar on. I didn't spend almost two decades of my life gaming just to sit there and not tell it how it is.
But it's not about stroking my e-peen. It's about putting game developers under pressure to keep raising the bar.

I am one of the biggest haters CCP has - and even I admit Dust is a better game then Destiny.
The problem with grind isn't the grind itself, as literally every game can be called a grind - that's why immersion is so important. It distracts us away from remembering the only thing we're doing is grinding.
In Dust we have the best community and communication tools any console has to offer for any game. For this SOLE reason alone - the grind in Dust is negated. Why? Because you can make a channel, invite literally all your friends, and just talk to them without there being an 8 person limit. You could even use Dust just as a voice tool, switch TV input to PS4 - and talk using PS3 to more then 8 people as you all play together on PS4, or different things.
There's a lot of freedom in channels that offers Dust flexibility, where in Destiny there's no such communication tools - and match making is LOL, as you'll never know if the people with you will be good or diehards.
So you don't have others deflecting the grind from being immediately that - a grind. So what does Destiny offer those who want to be more then casual?
NOTHING.
Where in Dust - if you want to be hardcore - the rewards for the effort really come together. Take my main for example - I'm pretty sure the majority of you would kill to have a toon with that much SP and well placed points. But in Destiny there's no such reward, you just got a slightly cooler model for your gun or helmet, you know, that same helmet and gun everyone else has and took them a whole day to get.
If Dust had PvE there wouldn't be much to talk about except RIP Destiny. |

There are 3 main areas that CCP should take away from Destiny.
1. The controls are amazing. You can have very precise aiming but also fast tracking at the same time. This is because there is a non-linear relationship between the right stick and the aiming reticule. I would love for CCP to have the guys reverse engineer the control settings and bring them into DUST.
2. It's polished. You don't get stuck on terrain, or have to jump to make it over a 2" curb. I'd love it if we could get some more refinement in this aspect of the game.
3. The enemy AI is very solid. I hope CCP can study this and apply what they've learned to Legion. Shooting stupid AI gets boring fast.
Best PvE idea ever!

Yeah but people need to realize PC gaming would be nothing without console gaming. Computers used to be unable to handle high quality audio and video. They were just data crunching machines.
It took a showcase of what television screens could really do, how far they really could immerse us into the audio visual experience. They couldn't just sell a computer with video games on it. They had to exploit the television market to really grab the attention of a broader audience.
*sigh* I wonder how many years it will be before we stop living in the real world and replace it with a virtual one. We're already halfway there now. Kids these days don't even socialize without the web. The suburban streets that used to be filled with people are now empty, replaced with cars and telephone lines.

Anyways, virtual gaming is almost here. We have Oculus Rift and Sony is developing their own headset too. I say in 5 years, Virtual Reality gaming will be an affordable, common thing.

Mulling over the same 4 maps, checking the same locations for the same items.. is NOT good RPG design. A good adventure RPG is supposed to keep you on your toes, not letting you know what to expect. In Dust skill is accumulated by the actual time you spend playing. In Destiny it's BASED ON LUCK with time spent being almost irrelevant, because in 2-3 weeks you'll already have the best kind of armor, and you'll realize that's how you level up is by upgrading your armor with ****** RNG based item drops. Did I mention skill doesn't even matter in PvP unless Bungie feels like releasing the "Iron Banner" because normal Crucible mode has level advantages disabled? Yeah. It's a copy paste of Halo with RPG elements. Iron Banner opens up in October, see you there, I am very lucky...

I don't see how it should . If it made sense financially they would had announced that Dust would be ported on the ps4 or that they would continue content/feature updates . Since they did neither then Dust most likely didn't justify the investment i.e Dust didn't make much money to do either. |

Something to consider:
Destiny and it's (purported -- dont know if it's actually true) 500 million dollar production costs is smaller, more bland, and has less customization than Dust. And it cost 60 bucks where as dust is free to play.
You know CCP get's a lot of ****, and rightly so considering some of the problems it has, but Dust probably has more replayability than Destiny.

After realizing there's no real way to get ascendant shards (level up) except playing Vault of Glass (6 person PvE raid that's supposed to be very difficult), I really couldn't give a **** about the Iron Banner. It's just going to be another Crucible except if you're not level 30, you won't win.
There's absolutely no way to find a raid group in-game. You literally have to search Bungie.net or something for a group. And this leaves you stuck with randoms who you don't even know or trust. The whole thing my DUST514 corp was going to do by pulling everyone into Destiny kind of fell apart with most of them either buying the PS3 version or not even buying Destiny. So I literally will have to put up with a group of 5 strangers on a stupidly hard raid just to level up my ******* character in the worst RPG ever made.
I was so pissed off when it seemed to me like the progress bar said I was one armor upgrade away from Light Level 28, then when I upgraded my armor I was ONE LIGHT away from leveling up... it's like wow there isn't actually a way to get ONE LIGHT. You are given it in chunks of like 3 or 4 once you upgrade your armor with ascendant shards.
Literally the only other way to get ascendant shards in that game is to find a public event on Patrol mode every day. Which is basically a re-hash of the same stupid low level enemies over and over again that you've already beaten before. And it only works for certain the first time each day, there is a pretty low chance of getting more shards by doing more public events, which happen about once every 20 minutes on average, in the WORST exploration mode of any game ever. For Christ's sake, Mario 64 had better exploration.
Oh and by the way? There's a chance you'll get ascendant ENERGY instead of shards, which go toward leveling up your weapon instead of your character. So yeah today I did not even get one ascendant shard after working at least a couple hours on it, and I have way too many ascendant shards that I don't need.
