Destiny is ******* god awful... It's essentially Mass Effect with 10% of the actual content with some Halo on the side.
At least this game is unique, has replay value, almost endless customization, and the matches are actually substantial and take real effort to win.
This game rivals Star Wars Battlefront for **** sake. If it had a fleshed out story it would be even better than SWB.
All Destiny is managing to accomplish is making me want to play Mass Effect again... and conning $60 out of me. I probably won't be buying the DLC expansion pass for it. Such a mediocre game...
Who designs a RPG with level up based on LUCK!?
So what's FOTM?

PvP in a shooter is supposed to be a grind.
However PvE is NOT. Mulling over the same 4 maps, checking the same locations for the same items.. is NOT good RPG design. A good adventure RPG is supposed to keep you on your toes, not letting you know what to expect.
In Dust skill is accumulated by the actual time you spend playing. In Destiny it's BASED ON LUCK with time spent being almost irrelevant, because in 2-3 weeks you'll already have the best kind of armor, and you'll realize that's how you level up is by upgrading your armor with ****** RNG based item drops.
Did I mention skill doesn't even matter in PvP unless Bungie feels like releasing the "Iron Banner" because normal Crucible mode has level advantages disabled? Yeah. It's a copy paste of Halo with RPG elements.
So what's FOTM?

Vicious Minotaur wrote:What else does DUST have besides "progression & isk?"
Content. Dust has more classes, more skills, more weapons, more depth. For **** sake Destiny doesn't even have more maps or areas to explore than Dust does. Destiny doesn't even have a vehicle mode, just those random ass ones you get in, kill **** with, and blow up just like in Halo. It actually has less vehicles than Halo did.
So what's FOTM?

Try doing that on the Bungie forum. You'll be welcomed by an angry mob of fanboys. Or your post will get completely ignored because it's built more like Twitter than an actual forum.
Grinding is what RPGs are made for. Stop trying to say grinding is the probem.
If I decide to replay Mass Effect I will happily grind through wave upon wave of Geth because there are endless ways to explore the universe while you do so.
Dust is like that except where it shines is the character customization which is nearly endless.
The only thing Destiny outperforms the rest with is... uh... fancy graphics and flashy **** I guess?
Ablerober wrote:I don't know why everyone keeps comparing Dustiny.
Destiny isn't all that, while Dust keeps dragging me back for more haha
They're both scifi shooters.

I was PRAISING Mass Effect. Read what I said again, idiot, and this time with some reading comprehension. The game was made 7 years ago and far outshines Destiny.
Appia Vibbia wrote:Both have gear that determines the victor. Destiny's weapon's godstats are Rate of Fire and Impact, higher rarity weapons have higher of the two stats, legendary gear-which only lvl20s can use- will always out perform common, uncommon, and rare gear. DUST has FotM, Dropsuit Upgrades tree that provides permanent bonuses, and SP disparity.
That's hardly true at all. The only difference exotic and legendary weapons will have in the crucible are insignificant things like granting "invisibility" when you aim down a sniper scope or like sustained fire increasing accuracy that REALLY aren't that great. http://youtu.be/zq8Pcl4GtBc?t=2m20s Legendary weapons (for those of you who don't know, are the second best kind) are just as good as the exotics and have most of the same upgrades, and even the next step down Rare will have some of the more decent ones. These are VERY small differences that you can unlock through only a couple weeks of gameplay. What really matters in that game's PvP are the class skills that you level up like the Bladedancer that everyone cries about on the internet saying it's OP. And again you can unlock ALL of these skills within three weeks of playing the game. And Appia honey... I hate to break this to you but each weapon has very well balanced RoF and Impact so that no gun is really outperforming any other. They just got done nerfing the AR's range, which actually WAS a "god stat" so I'm pretty sure there's no other way to exploit PvP right now except by quick scoping and maxing out your super charge (which is again, easy to achieve.)
Dust makes you appreciate the skills each class offers much, much more by making you EARN them. Some people might not like this exceptionally slow progression but don't ******* kid yourselves, you wouldn't BE HERE if you didn't like it.
Quote:It would be nice if Dust controlled like Destiny does.
You have a point there. The DS4 really handles nicely with that game compared to Dust. But I think as long as you are setting your sensitivity in Dust a little lower than the default you'll be fine.
It really is a nice change of pace not to have Scouts dancing in circles around my Sentinel, I'll give you that. Instead people just jump around each other or rush in kamikaze.

Bro, Dust did EXCELLENT compared to Destiny. There isn't even a team chat! There isn't a way to join Clans without logging onto Bungie.net! The teams are half the size and the maps are 1/5 the size!

Riruodo wrote:this reminds me a lot of the PS4 vs Xbone arguements. Arrrrgh, they are so annoying. I don't get why gamers have to prove to everyone how hardcore they are by saying how much they dislike something.
It's not about that at all. People on the Bungie forum rage and rage at us for criticizing Destiny, but if we didn't do it, nothing would change and the game would not improve. It would just become about making money and not making quality games.
And yeah, you know what? You're god damn right I want to prove I'm a hardcore gamer. Because I've played some of the best games out there and I can effectively critique any game and accurately tell you whether or not it's even worth dropping a dollar on. I didn't spend almost two decades of my life gaming just to sit there and not tell it how it is.
But it's not about stroking my e-peen. It's about putting game developers under pressure to keep raising the bar.

PC community would walk all over us - but then again, they have tools to actually BE a community. All we have is what Dust offers and forums - which is still x10 more then anyone else is offering console communities.
Yeah but people need to realize PC gaming would be nothing without console gaming. Computers used to be unable to handle high quality audio and video. They were just data crunching machines.
It took a showcase of what television screens could really do, how far they really could immerse us into the audio visual experience. They couldn't just sell a computer with video games on it. They had to exploit the television market to really grab the attention of a broader audience.
*sigh* I wonder how many years it will be before we stop living in the real world and replace it with a virtual one. We're already halfway there now. Kids these days don't even socialize without the web. The suburban streets that used to be filled with people are now empty, replaced with cars and telephone lines.

CYRAX SERVIUS wrote:Iron Banner opens up in October, see you there, I am very lucky...
After realizing there's no real way to get ascendant shards (level up) except playing Vault of Glass (6 person PvE raid that's supposed to be very difficult), I really couldn't give a **** about the Iron Banner. It's just going to be another Crucible except if you're not level 30, you won't win.
There's absolutely no way to find a raid group in-game. You literally have to search Bungie.net or something for a group. And this leaves you stuck with randoms who you don't even know or trust. The whole thing my DUST514 corp was going to do by pulling everyone into Destiny kind of fell apart with most of them either buying the PS3 version or not even buying Destiny. So I literally will have to put up with a group of 5 strangers on a stupidly hard raid just to level up my ******* character in the worst RPG ever made.
I was so pissed off when it seemed to me like the progress bar said I was one armor upgrade away from Light Level 28, then when I upgraded my armor I was ONE LIGHT away from leveling up... it's like wow there isn't actually a way to get ONE LIGHT. You are given it in chunks of like 3 or 4 once you upgrade your armor with ascendant shards.
Literally the only other way to get ascendant shards in that game is to find a public event on Patrol mode every day. Which is basically a re-hash of the same stupid low level enemies over and over again that you've already beaten before. And it only works for certain the first time each day, there is a pretty low chance of getting more shards by doing more public events, which happen about once every 20 minutes on average, in the WORST exploration mode of any game ever. For Christ's sake, Mario 64 had better exploration.
Oh and by the way? There's a chance you'll get ascendant ENERGY instead of shards, which go toward leveling up your weapon instead of your character. So yeah today I did not even get one ascendant shard after working at least a couple hours on it, and I have way too many ascendant shards that I don't need.

Can we also stop playing KING OF THE HILL with the games? Thanks, most appreciated.
QQ apples and oranges are two fruits that are VERY different from each other!!!1!!!1111!!!!
And you know what? YOU'RE the one playing king of the hill. I make this thread to denounce the people who "left Dust for Destiny" and you idiots come in here and think I'm trying to do the exact opposite.
It's not the best game, but at least Destiny has woken me up from the coma Dust put me in for an entire year. Now I kind of realize maybe I shouldn't invest so much of my emotions and time into ONE ******* GAME.
That slow EVE grind with a paid subscription **** might work on PC gamers but it's not gonna suck the console players in. If CCP isn't gonna grow the **** up and move their company forward, that's not my problem.

More like the wizards are Biotics from Mass Effect, Exos are Turians, the Vex are Geth... most of the things in that game were completely ripped off of that game.
Yeah CCP is just gonna try to suck even more money out of you than Sony, might as well not even play Legion.
I'm probably gonna just stop playing both games and download Mass Effect from PSN.

Justin Tymes wrote:Haters everywhere. Plenty of people can, and have, said a hell of alot worse about Dust514. Even with all of Destiny's flaws, Dust has had over 2 years of content and it's still worse than a fresh Destiny.
Dust gives you a sense of identity. There are endless roles to choose from, and taking the one you choose to the max level puts you a cut above the rest and makes you an asset to your team/corporation. The actual depth of the gameplay and the endless replay value of always having more roles and weapons to unlock really makes Dust stand out above the rest.
Dust actually has concrete social features that get you access to everything the game has to offer.
Destiny has NO team chat, no text chat, and overall clumsy and annoying social features that force you to go on a computer and look up "clans" to join just so you can play the endgame 6-man raid, or ANY of the strikes and missions that you really can't beat by yourself.

Quote:You might wanna get rid of the wise from your name seeing as you don't understand the difference between endless and it just taking a long time to get there. And at most there's like 10 main roles, then it's mostly just divided by your racial preference, and half of them can be summed up with...slayer. You can also get rid of 97% of ALL fitting options (this means every single module, suit, and weapon combination available, which there are at least in the tens of thousands, if not hundreds) based on them being complete trash for the intended suit and role.
Oh yeah because "just divided by racial preference" is a completely unnoticeable difference right? Like there's NO difference between a Gal and Amarr Assault, or a Cal and Min Scout or Sentinel.
And that's not true at all. Even Sentinels have fitting options. For example I've been considering skilling into shield recharge for my Amarr. The other classes have WAY more freedom to run things like biotics and equipment. The comment you made about weapon combination is so ******* ******** I'm not even going to address it.
If the Dust SP grind leaves you feeling unsatisfied, that sounds like a personal problem. QQ more.

iirc released in 2008 and was blamed for dated graphics by CoD marketing crew (ign, gamespot, etc) while setting the gold standard for team based FPS that won't be surpassed for the next 10 years.
Now flash forward to 2014. Destiny is a flashy toy catering to teenagers on new consoles. DUST - poorly executed attempt at persistence team based shooter.
I don't give a **** about MAG because from what I hear I can't even try to play it anymore. Beat a dead horse some more.
Teenagers? Really? No. The VAST majority of people on that game are men in their 20s.
