I Left Dust about a week before we learned it was doomed to development limbo. So the question is: does it behoove me to come back to this?
Has this game gotten better since then or not?
Normally I would simply hop on and check it out myself, but unfortunately the updates take forever to occur.

The only new thing this game has are a few stats and players. That said, you should give it a go to try out the new team balancing and how your favorite toys got buffed/nerfed appropriately. |

Balance wise it's seemed to have gotten better and for some people the matches have been more even with this new MU system they're going with, since you haven't played in a while it might be skewed for you for a bit.

CR and SMG got nerfed against shields but buffed against armor. The Assault SMG got a damage nerf but a ROF buff if I recall correctly.

I say give it a spin, I mean its free to play and all so there is little harm giving it 5 games to see where its at. CCP Rattata did lots of work with hotfixes.
I mean this here is hotfix delta changes alone

Also, the Burst (next hotfix of the hotfix) and the TAR atm are beast. EDIT: (Pyrex voice) but the reality is, you can only know if you play Dust for yourself.

It is more balanced than ever before.
And Assaults got a buff, with Delta even adding HP to all Minamatar suits other than scouts.
Not to mention team balancing.
At the very least give it a try.

Projectile profile used to be -5/+10, not -5/+5.
Other than that, spot on.
And finally, the sidearms all got rebalanced. SMG is no longer king, the Bolt pistol is now.

Its better now, but we still not have implemented thingies what were showed to us. Balance is good right now, but still not perfect. We will se in future, what we will have.

In my experience (tanks) it's only the blaster turret that goes crazy; I've had no trouble taking on rail turrets with a blaster tank and I've never had a missile turret fire on me.

yea its the blaster i'm having trouble with. they will all auto track dropship from beyond 100m, i can handle the new swarms but this is bs.. my lav shrugs it off but it still is bs.. i'm not firing on them and they will not forget aggro. on some maps it's just full ret4ard.
if i wanted to PVE all match i would buy WoW.. errr... i mean destiny

Scotty still has occasional hangovers but now the majority of the matches have very-balanced team composition so that you're finally facing players of your own caliber based on performance (Mu) rather than having lopsided matches.

That means it would take 4 direct hits to drop the HAV... and that's without the armor hardener activated, assuming the HAV stays perfectly still.
Take that same HAV and fit proto modules to it and stretch that out to 6 shots.

It's worth the download (you can do it overnight). The kill feed is full of a huge variety of weapons now. Matches are much more balanced so they often come down to the last few clones on each side, or the last few bars of armor on the MCC. The game certainly isn't perfect, but it's the best it's ever been. A good fight in DUST is more satisfying than any other FPS out there, between the combat, strategy, tactics, infinite variety of fits, the risk/reward, deaths causing real loss, etc.
Plus you should have a decent chunk of SP to spend.
Best PvE idea ever!

If they changed it so the excess clones didn't get automatically sold to where they'd get destroyed then it would at least make someone log on and sell the excess clones or utilize the clones for an attack it would help.
I don't believe the passive ISK should generate the type of ISK that it did before though.
But you are correct, the lack of a reason to hold more than a few districts takes the drama away from PC.

But the reason to play - PC - is gone. I understand CCP needed to find some way to regulate the ISK better in the higher tier players, but cutting supply completely was wrong.
Instead, they should of found a way to motivate more people to participate in PC and give them a way to enter PC without breaking there banks trying.
It should be obtaining that second district that your wallet should start to see the things to come when war breaks out.
They really need to add back passive ISK and add more clone packs. And also make it so corps with no district get a 50% off clone packs. |

I think people that struggle the most with DUST are folks who can only do one or two things well (and forum splurging doesn't count). You either need to run with a squad, or be prepared to run multiple counters as needed. If you can't do that, you will DIAF. On a possibly unrelated note, the number of Spanish speaking players is UP, and the number of Americans with 420 in their name is DOWN. Our Tryhardasaurus Rex population has been thinned as well. This means better fights, plain and simple.

Until you switch to equipment and get sprint glitched...Get shot and get a movement delay.. Get shot through walls.
Try and find a ladder or any use of the amazing high sky boxes in DUST is near pointless... Multi level playability is non existent unless you have a dropship and get on area's with invisible walls and are liek 2 feet floating in the air ontop of the structure rather then walking on it.
Until you drive an LAV... and it rolls more then nearly anything ever in the existence of humanity.....hits a tiny bump in the road and flips end for end.
Until you use a dropship and goto fly it... and realize you got this BIG ASS dropship in the middle of your view blocking everything.
Until you try and run around on the Terrain and get stuck in random spots... Cant vault over rails with invisible walls.. Cant take a small step over an obstacle or even jump over it in a heavy suit.
Until you spawn in an endless get spawn camped and killed before screen even fully loads.....all through the day.
Until you join a match playing 1-3 months and get put up against full squads of players playing 2 years+
Until you use ther terrible clunky, slow and unresponsive aiming system.
Advertises Mouse and Playstation Move... But both of them are ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.
Until you try and figure out ANY STORY WHAT SO EVER TO THE GAME.
Until you try and make sense WHAT THE HELL IS A "Dust 514"
An Angry Joe review would be 1 hour 30 mins of ranting non stop.
DUST is an example of LAZZZZZY.... In ever sense of the word... The Core Mechanics are terrible... The Map design is terrible.. The Shooting mechanics are terrible....
DUST has EVE's content and fitting system with EVE's sense of loosing an item each time you die. DUST as in a game itself has done NOTHING but tease the general playerbase with a competitive edge of your seat gun fights in Chromosome then dumb down the basic gameplay to CoD stupid levels while still never explaining the game ever.
Even worse is people put their names on this game and CCP staked their reputation on this game and then offered no support to actually build a competent game... Just launch the game out of Beta because they where selling Aurum and items in beta and got sued. And it just went downhill from there.
To now where they just have Rattati shifting small numbers around here and there... for soon to be an entire year... Instead of adding or fixing game mechanics that are known industry wide as terrible. |

He also had some mad spreadsheet and data analysis skills!
Since the proclaimed death of DUST, CCP Ratatti and his sidekick LogiBro (and Frame working away in the back room) have turned out four hot fixes: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and now Delta. Each of these hot fixes has done more to improve the balance and fun of the game than any two full content patches from the pre-Retatti era.
It is widely agreed that as of Hotfix Charlie, DUST was finally as good as it was in the Open Beta, with many arguing that it had surpassed even the Open Beta build. Delta has brought even more improvements.
Of course every time there is a major balance change there are some unexpected consequences, and there were several with Hot Fix Delta. But CCP already followed Hot Fix Delta up with a mini hot fix with minor tweaks within a week of Hot Fix DeltaGÇÖs release. They are also monitoring the situation and will likely make adjustments in Echo, just as they made adjustments to the Burst HMG after it was reworked in Charlie.
Assault Dropship Pilots are a bit TGÇÖed off right now. They were not being proactive in suggesting how to properly balance the Assault Dropship, so Rattati nerfed them into the ground, and suddenly the ADS community is experiencing an tremendous up swell in creativity. With all the diligent testing and vigorous feedback coming from the ADS community now I am sure that a reasonable solution to ADS balance will be forthcoming with Hot Fix Echo, if not before.
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.

All in all every weapon has a function and seems to do it well. Some of the tweaks are being adjusted but... slowly but surely things are starting to fall into a pattern.
Oh and Minmatar and caldari dropsuits got buffed by a change to the projectile damage profile. |

When you ask them what the counter to the weapon that killed them is, half the time they donGÇÖt know. I would not be able to bare to play a game that was dumbed down and homogenized to the point of satisfying those people.

Well, I liked when Dust Launched because I felt everything was more team oriented, and more in line with actual skill with aiming rather than letting your armor and weapon stats do the talk.
My biggest annoyance with this game is that while it reduced the twitch shooting aspect almost entirely: it did not make the game more strategic. Instead the tactic everyone relies on is the ability to overwhelm people through putting the most vehicles and players on a single point.
And when fights are determined by who's got more numbers almost every time, the game isn't that fun.
In COD I can set myself up in appropriate positions to be able to tactically pick off a squad of people by using my environment and specific weapons in tandem. In Dust it's more about numbers rather than actual knowledge or forethought. That's a big negative for a "tactical" shooter.

There is a fake diversity of suit : 50% are heavies, 30% are scouts (or fake assault using it because their buggy hitbox makes them OP) and the 20 poor % left is composed by players that are either MLT noobs, or players who thought that using an assault suit would be the best way to actually be an assault! Ho, and sometimes you can find some useful logis.

I don't think of that as being a tactical shooter, and I'm very glad DUST is different. I hope it never devolves into that.

Everybody speaks through their SP and their suits, but not with their actual ability to aim right and shoot. It used to be both skills needed (game ones and player ones), now anything can OS someone even if he is a far better player than the other one!
Simply because a machine gun doesnt require any skill to destroy any one that comes in front of you (spray and pray thing), because the weapons that can one or two shots anybody can be held by the most sneaky characters of the game giving you no chance to runaway. And there goes a long list of stuffs that are breaking this game.
Dust turned broken when they changed the aim assist, and then when they buffed scout. But Ccp will never do anything about that.

All of these are in a very good place now.
Min Assault has a great slot layout and bonus (extra clip size for projectile weapons)
Combat ruffle is still very good, especially when using a complex damage mod.
SMG is still viable although other sidearms have recently gotten better than it

Delta has brought even more improvements. Of course every time there is a major balance change there are some unexpected consequences, and there were several with Hot Fix Delta. But CCP already followed Hot Fix Delta up with a mini hot fix with minor tweaks within a week of Hot Fix DeltaGÇÖs release. They are also monitoring the situation and will likely make adjustments in Echo, just as they made adjustments to the Burst HMG after it was reworked in Charlie. Assault Dropship Pilots are a bit TGÇÖed off right now. They were not being proactive in suggesting how to properly balance the Assault Dropship, so Rattati nerfed them into the ground, and suddenly the ADS community is experiencing an tremendous up swell in creativity. With all the diligent testing and vigorous feedback coming from the ADS community now I am sure that a reasonable solution to ADS balance will be forthcoming with Hot Fix Echo, if not before.
If Ratatti was from the finance department then it clearly shows the state the game was and is - the direction of this game was total fubar from the get-go .
Imo OP and others who are looking to come back, it really depends on the reason you want to come back . If you are looking to experience any brand new features then you will not get that anytime soon or never. A lot of the stuff is about the same besides the weapon, vehicle, and dropsuit balance really those are really only things that changed from launch . The changes arguably helped balance the game more, but they are still some broken things that is going to take a longer time to fix and last more than a hotfix.

Unfortunately gun game is a very low factor. I'd argue that environment matters more than gun game in most cases. I don't think your actual size of SP should automatically contribute to your ability to do well. It matters more what you do with it than anything else. Also electronic warfare has almost zero value in an actual duel. If you two are already fighting then dampeners and scanners won't make a difference.
In an ideal world. Gun game would have 35% to do with how well you do, fit 25%, environment 10% and tactics 30%.
Dust was very similar to COD in terms of gun skill on launch. Oddly enough people complained that individual skill was more important than gear stats. Cue the introduction of aim assist and gradual buffing of proto gear and nerfing of lower tier gear. So now: Gear Stats>Gun Skill.
This is even more exaggerated because of course the greatest tactic in game is simply overwhelming the other team with constant waves of attacks and constant vehicle pressure.
It's a numbers game,
Who has the best gear? They'll win in a 1v.1.
Who has the most players/vehicles during a firefight? They'll win in a squad v. squad.

Advertises Mouse and Playstation Move... But both of them are ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.
Until you try and figure out ANY STORY WHAT SO EVER TO THE GAME.
Until you try and make sense WHAT THE HELL IS A "Dust 514"
An Angry Joe review would be 1 hour 30 mins of ranting non stop.
DUST is an example of LAZZZZZY.... In ever sense of the word... The Core Mechanics are terrible... The Map design is terrible.. The Shooting mechanics are terrible....
DUST has EVE's content and fitting system with EVE's sense of loosing an item each time you die. DUST as in a game itself has done NOTHING but tease the general playerbase with a competitive edge of your seat gun fights in Chromosome then dumb down the basic gameplay to CoD stupid levels while still never explaining the game ever.
Even worse is people put their names on this game and CCP staked their reputation on this game and then offered no support to actually build a competent game... Just launch the game out of Beta because they where selling Aurum and items in beta and got sued. And it just went downhill from there.
To now where they just have Rattati shifting small numbers around here and there... for soon to be an entire year... Instead of adding or fixing game mechanics that are known industry wide as terrible.

Don't give me that crap about what platform it's on because he rates games that are well talked about and known ... people know about Dust like I'm sure that he does but someone has told him don't even waste the time or he sensed it himself threw research .

CCP doesn't care about fun as much as these fanboi's and girls who prop up exploits or dismiss the fact that this game needs a skill point refund to increase playability and players interest .
I will tell you straight up Tec , it's the same $h!t with minor changes that should have been but like Bethhy said , which is most of the time on point ... there are issues that are just getting no attention but are critical to the overall game experience but most of these people are already under a trance so those issues will go undone prob into legion .
These people care more about adding or fixing weapons then the make up of the game and the experience .
You just don't see people talking about the glitches and such that make this game unplayable at times .
You come back and you will leave again .
Or maybe you won't if your a glutton for punishment and mismanagement by the company and community .

Delta should come with a SP or infantry SP refund so that a campaign for one is not needed .
