Personally I thought Dust was better at launch than it was in later iterations. I don't know, it just felt RIGHT. The game felt high paced, twitchy, close quarters, dynamic, and long distance fighting felt natural instead of forced. DUST was better in Open Beta than it was at launch, and then it just kept getting worse until the hell that was Patch 1.7 (which seemed to go on for ever). Then 1.8 hit and it became bearable again. (Luckily that happened before the GÇ£Red WeddingGÇ¥ Legion announcement or I might have left too.)
If I understand correctly, that is when you left.
Since the GÇ£Red WeddingGÇ¥ Legion announcement they pulled CCP Ratatti out of the Finance department and put him in charge of DUST. He happened to be the most hard-core DUST player in the Shanghai office. He actually understood the game and valued the opinions of his fellow players. He also had some mad spreadsheet and data analysis skills!
Since the proclaimed death of DUST, CCP Ratatti and his sidekick LogiBro (and Frame working away in the back room) have turned out four hot fixes: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and now Delta. Each of these hot fixes has done more to improve the balance and fun of the game than any two full content patches from the pre-Retatti era.
It is widely agreed that as of Hotfix Charlie, DUST was finally as good as it was in the Open Beta, with many arguing that it had surpassed even the Open Beta build. Delta has brought even more improvements.
Of course every time there is a major balance change there are some unexpected consequences, and there were several with Hot Fix Delta. But CCP already followed Hot Fix Delta up with a mini hot fix with minor tweaks within a week of Hot Fix DeltaGÇÖs release. They are also monitoring the situation and will likely make adjustments in Echo, just as they made adjustments to the Burst HMG after it was reworked in Charlie.
Assault Dropship Pilots are a bit TGÇÖed off right now. They were not being proactive in suggesting how to properly balance the Assault Dropship, so Rattati nerfed them into the ground, and suddenly the ADS community is experiencing an tremendous up swell in creativity. With all the diligent testing and vigorous feedback coming from the ADS community now I am sure that a reasonable solution to ADS balance will be forthcoming with Hot Fix Echo, if not before.

It doesn't worth any come back. Fair enough. BO2 and Fifa should keep me entertained. Advanced Warfare is just around the corner anyways. DonGÇÖt tell me that you are so optimistic that you think that stuff, or at least equivalent, wonGÇÖt happen in every other multi player PVP game? It is not like the stuff Sequal Rise mentioned doesnGÇÖt have counters in DUST.

"I just ran full speed at a heavy firing my rifle and he turned and blew me away! It's so unfair! HMG is OP!" (from ten meters away)
"I shouldn't have to adjust my fit! I should be able to do everything with my (insert thing here)."
"It burns when I pee! HAVs are to blame and need a nerf!"
All in all every weapon has a function and seems to do it well. Some of the tweaks are being adjusted but... slowly but surely things are starting to fall into a pattern.
Oh and Minmatar and caldari dropsuits got buffed by a change to the projectile damage profile. Vary much this! People will complain about anything that kills them. When you ask them what the counter to the weapon that killed them is, half the time they donGÇÖt know. I would not be able to bare to play a game that was dumbed down and homogenized to the point of satisfying those people.
Come to think of it, that is why I stopped playing WOWGǪ
