we've tried it at 5k WP and its just not working out.. how about we try it at 4k and see if its any better..
for a squad of 6 @4k that would be liek 633 WP each.. thats 200wp less each not much but itll make a bigger difference i think

i disagree, battles seem alot more dull and boring with maybe 1-2 orbitals a match that extra 200WP save going from 5k to 4k could be like 1/2 the way to a 3rd orbital so its not that much of a buff/nerf when compaired to the old 2500 WP OBs which rained hell on earth

Orbital spam was a bad thing, now you actually have to work as a team to get in there rather than run around getting war points so you can blow everything to hell 3 times in a row and walk into the objective... Seriously you all bitched about vehicles being able to blow you all to hell without being "easily" stopped, but an orbital is much easier and can only be avoided if you're in the right place at the right time. |

5k WP was just overkill.. there is like NO orbitals at all now really except maybe 2 tops in domination.. goign form 5000 to 4000 isnt as bad as people are makeing it out to be..
OLD 2500WP / 6 = 416WP each they came Too thick and fast
NEW 5000WP / 6 = 833WP each they come maybe once or twice.. at most 3 times total only in an entire match (domination) dont think i have seen them in Amboosh and maybe only 1 in Skirmish.
Proposed 4000 / 6 = 666WP each. number of the beast! i think this will be a nice balance between old and new id guess maybe 4 to 5 orbitals in a long Domination. maybe the odd 1 perhaps 2 in amboosh.. and perhaps 2 to 3 in skirmish
edit. adding this to OP

All I know is I'm already missing getting MORE THAN ONE OB in a pub... join some chat channels get to know some experienced peeps who can at least pull their weight and squad up.. and make sure squad commander knows when y'all got enough WP to drop the BOMB as iv hot-dropped into pubbie squads to put my points to use and some instances we've had enough points to drop like 2 or 3 orbitals but havnt dropped a single one.

I'm inclined to agree with the OP, and the 4000 number. Orbitals do help teams push back and thin numbers for a counter attack. it SEEMS, and this is only an initial impression, that I'm seeing more one sided matches. Orbitals while used by the winners to pound the losers are also very useful for trying to get back in the game.
I'd support 4000, if the community support it.

ps. i agree.. orbitals were useful for the losers to stay in the game, as of Charlie and WP cost increase i have seen perhaps an increase in Redlining if there is a competent squad on 1 team and not on the other..
i recall loseing team orbitals being used to Route an enemy bulwark so the losers could push in Cap and fight Tooth n nail to claw back MCC HP and even sometimes win.

2.5k each is easy enough for a lot of 2 man squads... If you're not good enough to get a few war-points without repping a fat guy the whole match, then that's your problem... Half a squad can still get 1 orbital, now if your team has 4 squads that's a chance of 4 orbitals, which is borderline too many.
The orbital is an "oh ****" button... You **** up you get a do-over and clear an area... If the whole match is full of spam again, it gets boring again and we'll have even more than the current amount of afk matches. |

I'd support 4000, if the community support it.
Comeback mechanics are bad, it's effectively telling players that its OK to be terrible because the developers will hold your hand through everything. Mercy of death mechanics are good, however.
I can easily get 2000+ WP on my own in a skirmish, and I'm not even a logi. Assuming everyone in my squad is equally competent that's 3 orbitals in a single match for one squad for a 4K drop. I'm not even OK with the orbital as it is, nobody appreciates having some bullshit dropped on their head that they can't do anything about and having to pay isk out of their own pocket as a result.
I do approve of orbitals in FW and PC on the other hand, as the capsuleer is actually risking something and something CAN be done about him. In pubs, its stupid.
Finally, the reason you see more one-sided matches are because PC is worthless and all the good players who refused pubs are now left with no choice but to crash into pubs. Your predecessor Kane turned off the isk faucet, so now the public gets to pay the price until CCP fixes the situation. Starve a dog and he will bite. |

In Bravo they were just too frequent. People were losing very ISK costly suits early in a match at a point where teams were engaged in a fun and engaging gun fight. At that stage of a match we are playing the FPS part of the game. matching our gun game against each other, using our good gear and for the vast majority proto is limited to one or two suits a game.
Orbitals that easy to obtain stopped the first clash, which is often the most exciting one.

I would say I am a solid player a bit shy of absolute top tier.
I would also say that less skilled players generally partake in activities which earn more WP than I do, so it's a fairly moot point. It's only the absolute worst kind of players who earn nothing on a regular basis, and I'm not really convinced a game should ever be balanced for a lack of skill. That's effectively damning your game to the pits of mediocrity forever. |

i also feel that lowering WP cost by 1000 to 4000 will make orbitals be a little more often then they are now and seeing a few orbitals per match can help players recognize the signs.. for when they go to FW and there is most likely going to be an orbital dropped EVERY 3 minutes

Orbitals that easy to obtain stopped the first clash, which is often the most exciting one. i as a logi also love when "meat-grinders" happen when both sides are locked in slaughter and im trying my hardest to perform the 5 R's of the Logistic Edict. gives me reason to play logi more then just spawn.. drop uplinks.. follow a fatman with rep tool for like 5 mins for maybe 2 or 3 kill assists all the while Lamenting the cap on WP per minute on reptools.. i slightly agree with the cap but with orbitals costing 5k maybe the cap could be increased somewhat.. or if it gets lowered to 4k maybe just a slight increase to the cap.

I always thought there should be a cost to orbitals. 9 times out of 10 an OB helps the winning team get further ahead and reduces the chance of the losing team changing the tide.
What if an OB cost the squad 1000 wp? The winning team could choose to not deploy and keep the wp or drop to help cement victory - the loosing team would be more likely to make the wp sacrifice to get back in the game.
The 1000 wp cost is based on a 5000 wp OB - it could be less if an OB was reduced to 4000 - it's the risk / reward concept for OBs that I'm proposing - it won't change PC matches but may help to balance pubs a little better. |

whereas the 5k WP cost means the losers hardly have a chance to push back as beign on the loseing side there is usually a massive points difference between the top 6 winners and top6 losers and usually the losers wont accumulate enough in time.. and that is if the top 6 are all in the same squad.. most of the time there is a rank spread/point spread differance within a squad play situation of its members

a slight lower post cost is so even the losers can have acess to maybe 1 orbital in a round.. which risk vs reward could/should be used wisely

Having more orbitals doesn't make the game any more tactical. It just creates a "reset" button because things didn't go your way. You're giving the winners more orbitals too, you know. How do you think that's going to play out? Especially at the red line? |

or it helps the losers atleast push back against the winners so atleast a bit of a good fight is had by both..
and even at 4k WP itll be a hard thing to do.. more so then the dark times of PRE-Charlie at 2500

as for WP scaleing with squad size.. that is just goign backwards as im guessing yoru diea is like 1k per person in a squad of 6 right? while its -1k for each empty spot in a squad.. so you would have a full team of people running around in 1 man squads

How about at the start of a match or on the barge, you vote for 1 guy in the whole team who drops the OB's... If no one votes it goes to whoevers name happens to be at the top of the list... Now the OB's aren't based on squads or squad sizes... & even the annoying blueberry with no idea what he's doing is contributing.
With this, is the only way to balance OB's, because everyone bitches about their squad not being big enough to farm them... Also no war points will be given by the use of the OB, so it becomes more strategic instead of a quick cash grab for the guy who drops them all.
Or heck since the 6 man squad will still get the OB's due to most votes, make it first come first serve, once the "OB is ready" message pops up, everyone stops what they're doing to try and spam it on something.
It's not a good idea to claim OB's as a way back into the match for a losing team, because the winning team will also gain the benefit... If you make vehicles more viable again, they can clear the rooftops, you don't need to blast the lone forge gunner with an OB every 2 minutes. |

You shouldn't guess. That is not my idea at all, because 20% would be over the top. However, a reduction of, say, 14% (700 WP) per space might work, making them more attainable without being *too* much so for the majority of squads. That would break down to:
6 - 5000 or 833/member 5 - 4300 or 860/member vs the current 1000 4 - 3600 or 900/member vs the current 1250 3 - 2900 or 967/member vs the current 1667 2 - 2200 or 1100/member vs the current 2500 1 - 1500 or, well, I hope I don't have to explain this one
If you can legitimately get 1500 WP by yourself multiple times over in a match, please, have the orbitals. It happens, but not often.
EMP orbitals are already in the game, btw. No client update should be needed. Better for dealing with all the equipment spam, hits through walls to soften up dug-in enemies and would mean the squad would actually have to push after the OB to finish off weakened opponents, rather than waltzing in after the squad leader rakes in all his +50s.
Reality is the original Rorschach.
Verily! So much for all that.

200 points per person, per orbital... that's 2 barrages for a mear 1300wp each... 3 for 1900... Most games these "full squads" will be over 2k each (I know because I'm usually in them.) Orbitals while used by the winners to pound the losers are also very useful for trying to get back in the game.
Totally agreed.
I have been in matches where we have dropped 8-10 OBS, I know of many who have done this, the newbs didnt even get to drop one.
Now, its changed to about 2-3, the newbs don't get one but hey, at least its 2-3.
Battles also seem to be won over gunplay rather than the inevitable ob now, battles are more dynamic.
Sod this lowering ob wp tomfoolery.
I also see quite a few players who solo very often in this thread, makes sense.

I am in agreement that 5k wp is a great spot for obs. Before it was far too easy to farm orbitals even in ambushes. Now ambushes are mostly straight up team death matches, domination and skirmish are seeing a few dropped on either side which is positive for both winning and losing teams.
Experienced squads will still get at least 2 orbitals for good fights which is not OP and doesn't smash the other side.
It's no one's fault but the SL who doesn't put up a defend order and keep it up throughout the match to gain those extra wp to push for that orbital. CCP should not reward poor play and freely hand out instakills. All players should have to work for that instant death bombardment.
This is a team based tactical game and should only reward such behavior. There are options available in game to bring in players if your Corp/alliance is short on players. Use the tools available to you to maximize the ability to gain an orbital. Improve your game, please do not try to dumb down the game.

Another vote for keeping the 5k limit. My only concern is that it makes it virtually impossible to clear a roof with forges on it. Even with a full squad going hard you'll be waiting half a game for that OB. So it slightly promotes chessiness, especially in domination. Maybe some of the high points could have fences stuck on them or even ladders |

5000WP is fine. Myself and a friend got a 2 man orbital in Ambush. Its not that hard to get for a well oiled squad.Yes, I have noticed a lot more one sided battles (and redlines) but realistically it promotes full squads, teamwork and better abilities. You want to win? Work for it. An OB is not an insta win button. You should only get it if you put the effort into your squad and you and your squad members earn it.
I will be the only player to Prototype every single god damn weapon before Dust dies. 3 to go.

To be honest I like the 5k orbitals. As fun as it is raining hellfire, there was nothing worse than fighting tooth and nail for an objective, just to have everyone nuked once you start hacking. Now the epic battles will be worth the effort with less chance of it counting for nothing.
If the general consensus is to lower cost and CCP agrees, 4k seems a fair number. When squads were 4 strong, an OB was 625 each. At 666 per player it keeps that ratio, (very mildly) inflated to account for increased sources of WP. |

This game rewards skill and team work if you have neither than get them.

If you have people in your squad that can't pull their weight, then just find someone else to fill their spot if orbitals mean that much to you. Orbitals are nice but they should used as a last resort "turn of the tides" type mechanic that allows you to disrupt the enemy momentum IMO. Until now they were basically just like kill streak rewards in COD. Now they are used more strategically because you may not get another one if you mess the first one up.
This is working out for the better. |

Seriously you all bitched about vehicles being able to blow you all to hell without being "easily" stopped, but an orbital is much easier and can only be avoided if you're in the right place at the right time. well the differance for a full team is only 200 points per person from 833 down to 633 each for an orbital yes it would mean more orbitals but still like 80% less then when it was 2500wp 200 points per person, per orbital... that's 2 barrages for a mear 1300wp each... 3 for 1900... Most games these "full squads" will be over 2k each (I know because I'm usually in them.) So lets say we have 2 full squads and a few blue's... That's 6 OB's and well you're not coming back into that match with your 1 OB you managed to farm stuck in the redzone. You're not supposed to be able to spam the barrage, or get them on your own. only in domination will your full squad manage to get 1300+ each Our squads on an average get over 1300 you don't need to proto stomp and be heavy/logi for it.

You don't have to be what your describing to get an orb just use tactics and skill

Fine as it is, the games are much more enjoyable with less orbital spamming. In my opinion. |

You can use FGs and SLs to ensure that no Dropship ever gets close enough, meaning that there's no counter to anyone who decides to camp with Triage Hives and a Drop Uplink.

Ryme Intrinseca wrote:Another vote for keeping the 5k limit. My only concern is that it makes it virtually impossible to clear a roof with forges on it. Even with a full squad going hard you'll be waiting half a game for that OB. So it slightly promotes chessiness, especially in domination. Maybe some of the high points could have fences stuck on them or even ladders
Oh, it's not impossible. Actually developed a tactic specifically for that situation. Dropship flies up to flight ceiling and drops a guy or two with HMG. You have a remarkable amount of time to adjust your descent path and land on the roof pretty much perfectly if you were even slightly on target. Wait until the last moment to activate your inertia damp and they won't have any time to react.
You can even perform this action solo like myself if you are willing to sacrifice a dummy-fit viper. |
