give me the best sales pitch you've got.
to me, the most important thing is i want to know what games I'll be able to play other than Legion
i've never been a PC gamer. I've been a console gamer for almost 20 years and I never really bothered/had time for PC gaming
i'd also like to know what computer you have, how much it cost, how much you usually spend to upgrade it

It's also more time consuming, expensive, and generally a hassle to someone who would much rather just play the first-party games on consoles. For example if I decide to buy an Xbox One it's the only way I will be able to play Halo, which might appeal to me more than Legion.
Speaking of that, I hear Halo 5 will be running at 60 FPS. How well is Legion expected to perform?

Hmm. I guess there are also terms I need to familiarize myself with if I go for a gaming PC. Not sure how Hz affects FPS.

In all seriousness though (as obviously there is no way at this early stage that we can predict exactly what the framerate will be on any potential system setup) PC gaming and console gaming are different beasts. The discussion/debate/irrational screaming matches can be found all over the internet so I won't go too much into it here.
I would say it is not more time-consuming, however - you can sink just as many hours into consoles as PCs, and in my experience downloading patches and updates on PS3 has proven to be just as much of a hassle if not more so than automatically updating my PC games on Steam, for example.
I can say though that if you bought yourself PC capable of playing Legion with whatever specs it needs at launch, then you will more than likely be able to play every PC game that has been released since the dawn of PC gaming (using DOSBox and so on if needed) and almost definitely every Windows XP+ and later game, so you would be opening yourself up to one of the - if not the single most - largest backlogs in videogaming.
Plus I have gone through periods where I had the PC in the lounge hooked up to the TV, with a wireless mouse and keyboard for regular gaming and an Xbox 360 controller for console-like gaming, playing amazing looking 1080p games in full resolution with great framerates...
So yeah, I'd love to be able to tell you the frame rate etc you can expect from Project Legion, but this is very much in the 'we don't know' stage (remember, the game is not even greenlit yet!). |

I used my PC all the way through university and the only real upgrade I needed to do was to buy a graphics card - I didn't run everything at max settings super awesome all the time, but the same thing that was churning out assignments in MS Word let me play games in 'glorious' 3D as well...
PC gaming can be a matter of as much or as little as you want to spend and you will reap the rewards accordingly. You can get AMD/NVIDIA-powered gaming laptops for the same price as a PS4, which have HDMI output for playing on HD TVs. They will run everything, but just not as beautifully. And while we are on the subject, I would hate to try get MS Office running on a PS4. |

#1 When your PC start getting old, you dont throw it in the trash, you upgrade it (for a lower price than getting a whole new PC).
#2 Huge backlog of single player games for you to play.
#3 Past gen console emulators, you can play FF7/FF8 and other games with graphical filters to make the games look really good.
#4 Bigger choice of controls (Keyboard/controller/joystick/VR headset).
#5 Steam box is a PC in a console format.

Wow its easy to sell someone on PCs and PC gaming.
For a modest investment - You get all of those amazing pc games out there.... [Legion - in the future] Starcraft 2 EVE Online All of your usual AAA titles that you expect on consoles barring one or two Steam and all of the games available. Tons of indy games. Many free to play games.
--- PC`s do a lot more than just game Photoshop and other artistic type tools DAW`s (For producing music / composing sounds) Internet / all associated stuffs Many other types of office / 3d modelling / all sorts of tools and other programs.
customisable physical badass looking machine! The ability to overclock and tweak to your very own specific preferences.
The ability to go super 'green' if that's your thing with really low power consumptions.
The list could go on....
Edit - oh damn I forgot awesome modding communites on PC that make awesome game content for most PC games. Noteable games would be - Starcraft 2`s arcade, Steams workshop especially for games like GTA4 , Skyrim etc... |

Anything a console can do, a PC can do better.
The only reason to have a console at all is for console exclusives. That is literally the only thing they have going for them that keeps them from complete irrelevance in today's market. |

#1 - The best and largest library in the history of gaming. #2 - Supreme upgradeability; you'll almost never need to buy a new PC. #3 - The best range of peripherals around. #4 - A good PC can be used for almost anything. You'll hardly need another device! #5 - The graphics can reach godly levels. #6 - No need to pay for internet connectivity. #7 - Game modifications are great fun. #8 - EVE Online is on the PC. #9 - The games are incredibly cheap with Humble Bundle and Steam Sales. #10 - Developers get more money from your purchases than on a console.
My computer is five-years old and cost $360.

The biggest drawback of PC gaming is that the initial outlay of money for a gaming PC(plus monitor/peripherals) can be fairly high but it will last you at least two generations of consoles and you will likely only need a graphics card upgrade at that point. I purchased this PC during the PS2 era and upgraded the graphics card a few years ago. It's still able to run new games without issue.
There are some pretty big differences in the price of games though - most new releases are $10 cheaper on PC, but more importantly PC games go on sale for ridiculous prices - it's fairly common to see 75% off sales on Steam. There are bundle sites like Humble Bundle and Indie Royale that offer amazing deals.
The graphics and performance on PC are usually equal or better than on a console.
Everything that is available on consoles is available on the PC(except exclusives but even then some make it to the PC).
The PC has entire genres of games that aren't often seen on any console(real time strategy, point and click adventure, RPGs, MMOs).
There's a huge backlog of games on the PC. Virtually every game that ever existed is available on the PC in one form or another.
Emulators are awesome - you can play old console games on your PC(if you don't want to setup the SNES to play Zelda 3 you can have it on an emulator in 10 minutes).
You can use whatever mode of input you want - if it's not supported there are ways around that(you could use a controller for every game if you wanted).
Probably most important is the modding community - from little things like adding butterflies to huge things like removing Oblivion from Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The original Thief games have an amazing modding community that has made hundreds of new missions for the games(and graphics updates as well). Steam Workshop makes installing mods very easy now. |

Well here is what I have to say in this matter.
Pc gamming doesn't have to be that much more expensive that buying a console, for instance with the new AMD apu's that released this year you can build a pc that can game as good as a console for the same money.
i went this route tho and i can play battle field 4 on ultra preset at 70fps.
case: cooler master HAF922 Mobo: Asus 990fx pro Cpu AMD 8350 memory: 16gb G Skill 1866 ram ssd: 120gb samsung evo hdd: 1tb seagate barracuda 7200rpm PSU: corsair 1000watt Graphics cards: 2x gigabyte AMD radeon R9 270x 4gb Overclocked
I can play any game a console can at better framerates and with higher graphics settings. i don't just use it for gaming either like you do a console so in my opinion PC is a better investment as it does more than just play games and netflix.
the cost of mine was a about double what a Xbone costs tho |

And, if someone has no other use for a PC than gaming?
I graduated from college, so, papers aren't a thing (plus I wrote my Senior Thesis in a Google Doc on my Nexus 7 and my phone).
Other than papers, no one has given me a single other use for a PC. I use my laptop as a paperweight though.
So, for your, roughly, $900-$1000 I can play games... seems pricey to me...
PS, Blowout, your backlog argument is moot. I have around 100 games in my PS3 backlog as it is. Also, poor choice for a Dev name if the community ever turns on you.
So, someone actually sell me a PC...
I 'support' EVE:Legion. Since the PS4 is just a dream, make it easy to sell our characters and our Beta access...

It comes down to taste of games. I play both on console and Rig. On my rig I tend to play FPS and Horror games as console last gen were scared to touch it. But IMO consoles get the best exclusives. Cause well MMO, moba and indie games are fluff to me.
So there you go. it really comes down taste. |

If a game is on PC or a console, I get it on PC. The reason is generally a "no matter what happens to my PC, I can play it." In a year or two when this PC is dead, I will still be able to play X-COM on my Steam. In 5 years, I can load that bad boy up no problem. In 5 years, I wouldn't necessarily be able to do that as easily with a PS3 version of X-COM. As others have mentioned, a PC is generally better if you have the same library of games. I don't mean that as a "PC Master Race!" thing because that is just silly. No one would question that a console is more powerful than an iPhone game or have "Console Master Race!" thrown in their face. A PC is generally more powerful than a console with
Total Biscuit, a PC gaming YouTuber, recently did a mailbag episode of "I am a console player; why should I get a PC?" and was fairly non-biased it in. You can find the video here.

Laptops are PCs.
Also, there are plenty of pocket sized PCs.
Beyond that, modern smartphone/tablets are basically PCs too, it's just that most are ARM based rather than x86.
Consoles, on the other hand, are too inherently limited to do most of what PCs can do (or even mobile devices). |

With enough force, even a full tower can be used as a Frisbee, "little effort" is dependent on the person tossing the PC.
