I have seen in several posts the extent that people take "Legion being a totally different & separate game" to some crazy extents. Some people making the assumption that as there may be a SSO in the future, assuming that Legion will require an active EVE account or even just a monthly subscription. Others saying that there will be a separate CPM for the game.

Now, honestly I don't know fully why they decided to announce it this way. Maybe its legal reasons, maybe they are trying to get away from the bad press, I don't know. But i just want to make one thing crystal clear.

Dust is a multiplayer sort of RPG style FPS set on the planets in new eden with skills, vehicles, corps and futuristic armour.

Legion will be a multiplayer sort of RPG style FPS set on the planets in new eden with skills, vehicles, corps and futuristic armour and a lot more stuff too. However it will be under a new (imo better) name, with fancier graphics but on a different platform.

Now for all we know, the changes, tweaks and additions could be so vast that it may almost be like playing a whole new game, but then again the differences between what we have today and the first closed beta is so vast it may as well be a totally different game. I like to think Legion being similar.

In all honestly, the launch, presentation and publicity of a game are all tied into it. Remember Dark Souls when it launched. No, actually I don't think ANYONE noticed it at all! But it grew and defied expectations and caused the bosses to even reconsider a lot of their plans by simply word-of-mouth spreading about how great that game was! You are not getting that with Dust and you're getting half raves and half rants with Legion which is not what you want a game's to be even before anything close to a beta is out. You're already digging yourself out of a hole at that position. Legion is a huge point of interest on the EvE forums but outside EvE,it's really Dust players. That's it and if you visit websites covering this the news is even less positive; the less informed about Dust see Legion as a game that is already problem-plagued by its own audience even before beta stage. No matter how you spin it, that's just utterly bad for business in general. Steam is one possible area but it's also counter-intuitive; steam's goal is to get you to buy as many games and not fall in love with just one in general in it's ideal corporate model. If everyone who did steam just got one game, they'd be doomed from the get go but because enough gamers rely on it for new games on a consistent basis, it can grow and survive as a company. So legion even coming to steam won't but a guaranteed success. If the idea is to really make a game that defies expectations, Legion isn't that and it'd have to be extraordinary "great", like Dark Souls great and that doesn't seem likely at all and no one is really fooling themselves that Legion is going to be a sleeper hit of a game either. There aren't many games that have dug themselves out of a hole; SW:ToR barely avoided that but didn't live to expectation, ESO isn't as fabled to be great to the hype set for it either and it's seeing a decline. Both titles didn't start in a hole but once the ugly got out, it was a fierce fight to just avoid the game being based by critics relentlessly. They're both great titles just not what you'd called spectacular.... That's what Legion reminds me of; a game with potential and hype but you fail to be really excited by it and it fades away for many. I know i'm not alone in this and it's really not the impression you want gamers to have either.

CCP cannot declare legion as an expansion of dust or dust 2.0 because then they will be forced to transfer data from dust onto legion. By declaring legion a separate game, they dont need to worry about transferring isk, assets, SP, character history (KDR, WLR, etc). They can force everyone to start fresh from the beginning because "legion has nothing to do with dust." This guy gets it. But that bold step would mean they have confidence that legion can stand on it's own two feet on PC. Rejected by the FPS community I doubt it. I think they expect eve players to take care of dust 2.0 (legion) from the big bad world of FPS. lol Only reason they would let the sp transfers go through. But you never know..

However, the journalists that were shown the demo clearly stated there was no skill system in Legion. Getting better was entirely focused on salvaging better gear. No leveling at all and no SP system. I am unable to resolve the vast difference between your description and what CCP demonstrated to journalists. Maybe you can, Jenza. Logibro has already stated DX11 will be required to play legion, meaning those system reqs will be below minimum. I also read on here, and I don't remember where, that EVE is also going to be dropping DX9 support as well later this year (I obviously can't confirm it, but its plausible if Legion is not supporting DX9)

Now for all we know, the changes, tweaks and additions could be so vast that it may almost be like playing a whole new game, but then again the differences between what we have today and the first closed beta is so vast it may as well be a totally different game.
