Wait, you initially BLOCKED this thread? Was this your attempt at damage control? You tell us that you want to build a strong connection with the community and take our feedback, but then you essentially abandon us and allow us to wallow and rot in our own sorrow? Well, you have another thing coming. With sorrow comes anger, and it will fuel the (metaphorical) fire that will be the undoing of this company. You have betrayed us and we are coming.
And even that would not be enough for what you did to humiliate the community at fanfest.
This sorry game doesn't even deserve the community it had built over the years.

Velico Orion Necrosis wrote:It's really hard for me to explain things. I never heard of CCP until I became involved in DUST 514. A free FPS that looked like a solid game. I really enjoyed being able to be a part of this from the ground up as a beta player and all. Sure the game had its faults, but they were being fixed and with the players help, my help, we shaped it into something solid. I felt like I was part of a strange family, sure a digital one, but family.
Then I hear about this Fanfest and CCP really pushing DUST players to come up to Iceland and enjoy the party on top of the world. A party with the rest of the family and to meet EVE players as well as other DUST players. I am a family man and really wanted my family to experience the CCP and EVE family. We flew up here to join in on the Fanfest activities. My wife and little boy. Hopefully will try to get him another sibling to pick on later this year! (still trying)
At first things were great. It was interesting to walk around and introduce yourself as a DUST only player and everyone was so friendly. I meet a ton of people. Things were great. Finally, after all the other stuff we get to the DUST presentation. For a moment I felt special. This was a presentation about me and the rest of my friends who play DUST. A presentation for us and to become closer to the rest of this family here at CCP and with EVE. Everyone around me knew I was a DUST only player it seemed.
Never in all my life have I been this utterly embarrassed to be somewhere. To really feel executed on the spot and all eyes on you. I felt like the biggest fool in the universe. My wife just covered her mouth and looked at me with pity. It felt as if everyone was looking at me for a reaction.
Every single moment after that it seemed like my family and I had leprosy. People steered clear and ended conversations as fast as possible and vanished. I just don't know how else to explain it. I have never in all my life felt this betrayed and publicly humiliated.
I wish I never came up here.
Damn....I'm sorry that happened to you. Especially for your little boy. Hey, you're a good dad. Your boy will remember the good times you guys had there.
Win or lose....I bring out the best in you!

So he was not there, therefore he trolled this heavily.
Or that he simply used some other account to buy the ticket? Not really that hard. Regardless of whether or not it's true. It's pretty much how I felt about fanfest. |

I am of the opinion that true or not this is exactly how CCP treated people.
They dropped the ball with failed promises in DUST 514. Low player base? Yes. Why? Because you didn't complete the game! You delivered about 1/3 of the game promised on release. Go and watch the trailers for DUST 514. You guys made them. Where is the PVE? Where are the full vehicle packs? Where are all of the things that were promised????
Oh I see, they are in Legion.
So DUST was actually, and specifically a way to tap in to console gamer's experience and feedback in order to make a game for their true player base, the PC players.
So in the end they made DUST 514 a PS3 exclusive in order to keep their PC players insulated from this abandonment, only to return with a full fleshed out game courtesy of patsies like me who invested in DUST.
I actually went out and bought a PS3 the night DUST went open BETA. Now I have a paperweight, as I don't even have other games for it.
I have played EVE since Cold War many, many years ago. I am gone from your subscription base. You screwed this up and nothing will fix what you have done, especially not a new released game for the PC. In fact, Legion will live on as a testament to the arrogance and trolling nature of CCP.
Drop the mic mercs, this is it. Nothing more to say. I don't care that the story is true or not. It sums it all up. |

However, the initial lock was decided upon thorough investigation, we wanted to meet with the player, talk in person, but we were not able to locate any evidence that this player was indeed here and attending Fanfest. I don't think that even matters. The simple fact that this could be a true story should be enough for everyone at CCP to be ashamed of themselves. So the fact that I COULD murder someone makes me automatically guilty of doing so. Good lord, reason is so rare Irony. Learn it. You're talking about a hypothetical wrongdoing. I'm talking about a hypothetical victim of an actual wrongdoing. Just like "what if there had been someone in there" is a valid criticism of someone who threw a rock through a window. What is this irony too? Ill just take you seriously for a moment, so that I can actually respond without just furthering a joke. What is the actual wrongdoing here? I still dont understand. Has anyone died? Has some contract been violated? Serious question btw ... I really didnt read the EULAs ... I understand that some are pissed because they bought in on a dream or so one reads. But who buys a dream for 1000 dollars and demands it coming true? This is not funding a game in kickstarter, this is buying boosters and items in a F2P game. What has been wrong or ambiguous about that? The craze seems just naive to me on so many levels. Please explain the actual damage to me, besides bad PR to a developer?
Oh not another EULA cheerleader.

I just read this thread... all 21 pages of it. Regardless of whether the OP was real or fake, this has got to be one of the worst marketing and PR gaffes I have ever seen, period. I've worked in sales and marketing for over 20 years and trust me, I know FUBAR when I see it.
The apparent lack of concern for the community in how this was handled was especially jarring. That CCP did not even recognize that this could have been the proverbial straw that broke the community's back illustrates how far removed they were from their community; or more cynically, that they continued to take people's money knowing full well for a significant amount of time that DUST was no longer a priority speaks volumes of how CCP as a company operates.
I also find that posting from Jean Claude what's his face to be highly disingenuous, if in fact he is in CCP's employ. If he's so sure of his position on this matter, why not just be truthful and post as someone representing CCP? That is how CCP feels as a company isn't it? DUST is dead, long live DUST 2.0 (Legion)?
I am a DUST player. I didn't buy my PS3 to play DUST, but it occupies 95% of my time on my PS3. I have other games, but they have been set aside for DUST. It's not that the game is especially good - it's not. It didn't live up to the promises made by CCP. But I enjoyed the comraderie from the new friends I made online.
Our Corp is talking about moving on to another game, and rightly so. Even if none of what has been said by the OP was true... even if all the hysteria by the DUST community over the past few days was way off the mark, the way in which CCP has handled this situation speaks to the ethics of this company. They don't deserve or time, our money, our support or us as their player base. |

That's the sad thing. I've kept playing for the last year for two reasons:
1) Camaraderie. I like the people I play with, and enjoy spending time with them, win or lose. 2) Possibility. Despite Dust's shortcomings, most of us kept at it in the hopes that some day, our dedication would be rewarded in a truly magnificent console game.
Number 2 is pretty much shot, and so I login now for friends, and play a few meaningless matches while talking about Dust's (non)future. But once all the gossip and talk is exhausted, which it will at some point, then what reason is left to login?
In one fell swoop, CCP managed to destroy any motivation I had to play Dust. When I login now, I don't even give a damn what fittings I'm running, cause most of the focus is on what we are talking about in squad, not the match. I've blown through about 40 mil in ISK in the last 4 days, giving it away to needy mercs, calling vehicles I could care less about recalling, and running proto gear cause I'm unconcerned with trying to find just the right fitting among the 25-odd fittings I created for special purposes/situations (something I used to really enjoy).
The wind has been taken completely out of my sails, and it makes me sad, truly.

It obviously isn't connected to EVE or New Eden, but it has better controls than DUST and more fluid gameplay while also having insanely complex and involved customisation.
It also could use more players who have learned that most important lesson the people of New Eden cherish: HTFU.
It's made by a company called "From Software". They're apparently fairly well-known for something called "Dark Souls". Maybe you've heard of it? It's allegedly a difficult game or something. So it appears my post was deleted even though it was constructed respectfully, coherently, and did not go against any of the forum rules. Way to be. It was not a rant of any sort either, but brought up several valid points I suppose you could not refute so deletion was easier.
So be it.
Basically, to reiterate, I am embarrassed for recommending this game to friends. I am embarrassed that I bought extra copies of BPO suits that I will never be able to "sell" on the "marketplace" as you stop developing for this game. (Yes I know what they said, but the way they said it and the actions they have taken speak more truthfully than the PR jargon loaded response that we received).
Name one thing that moving to the PC platform fixes specifically, that is still a problem with our current PS3 iteration? Does anyone really think more computational resources will fix the issues we have with our current iteration of the product?
What has been changed to prevent Legion from failing in much the same manner? The only thing I can think of is that you now have a running start.
But the absolutely worst thing you did was to be working on this project, knowingly, for months, while promoting a game you would no longer be supporting. I even think you knew the fallout would be quite large, which is why Legion will stay on PC and will not port, so that you can take advantage of the goodwill gotten by your only successful enterprise, EVE.
Doesn't really matter though. I am pissed my post was deleted as I cannot remember half of it but in the end, I'm over it and will not be supporting CCP's future endeavors.
the definition of insanity is doing something over and over again and expecting a different result. Same devs, same company, same game
The way this was botched, down from the vision to the execution, to the PR; is in no way the playerbase fault, yet they are the ones paying the price for CCP's over-ambition and poor management. IMO, CCP fully deserves to fail. As to succeed after failing in almost every aspect would defy logic and be a failure of a free market. Keep this in mind while you continue to support them.
CCP's failures: Vision - over-ambitious Communication - in soo many ways but to generalize; no communication as to the direction of the game or the vision changing Execution - In almost every aspect. Slow to update, slow to add features, even slow to add things you already knew you would be adding SOON. Ending beta obviously not ready and unable to admit you were not ready. Planning - no buffer's for when something could not be completed. No logical progression map or timeline Coordination - Whose working on what? How does this fit into the big picture. What is the end result even supposed to be. Alas now we will never know, but I don't think they ever knew either. Feedback - No acknowledgement whatsoever of the above failures, or how you learned from these failures, or what you will do different with Legion to prevent the same failures occurring again. Leadership - None obviously, as with good leadership the above failures would never have been allowed to occur. A good leader must be able to see the big picture and act accordingly. Must be able to see the obstacles on the horizon and prepare the team.
The only thing done well? You had a good idea. *Golf clap*
