Dis. Even if OP himself is fake, this scenario is completely believable, and likely happened, not only to him, but to other mercs. This is ****** up beyond words.
Someone at CCP should have had the foresight to make the Legion announcement before Fanfest, to prevent this kind of travesty. Period.

CCP obviously hired Rouge to do development on Legion, not Dust. This has been in the works for a long damn time.

Yeah, all this. Even if this guy made the entire thing up whole cloth, the odds are very good there was at least one merc in that room, and while it may not have been embarrassing for him, at the very least there would have been a general feeling of, "I just spent all this money to come up here to hear what now?" This situation, while possibly contrived, is totally plausible...and that, you Legion/PC trolls, is what people are responding to.
Also, I think it's unfair to assume CCP didn't investigate this before locking. Regardless of my feelings towards them now, I do believe they care about this guys predicament, and likely tried to meet with him. This is the sort of PR snafu that any corporation would recognize as damaging, and try and smooth over. So props at least for trying to find him and meet with him.
I'm still upset on this guys behalf, but it's important to be level-headed when emotions run this high, and not go assuming the worst about CCP's motivation in this.

Ps. am i the only one that thinks "why am i still playing this game?' every time i log in? i truly have lost my drive to play more than 3-4 games a day. this is all since the announcement. same here. when I login... I just chat with my friends on comms. I don't even feel like playing anymore. dust has turned into an overglorified chat program.
That's the sad thing. I've kept playing for the last year for two reasons:
1) Camaraderie. I like the people I play with, and enjoy spending time with them, win or lose.
2) Possibility. Despite Dust's shortcomings, most of us kept at it in the hopes that some day, our dedication would be rewarded in a truly magnificent console game.
Number 2 is pretty much shot, and so I login now for friends, and play a few meaningless matches while talking about Dust's (non)future. But once all the gossip and talk is exhausted, which it will at some point, then what reason is left to login?
In one fell swoop, CCP managed to destroy any motivation I had to play Dust. When I login now, I don't even give a damn what fittings I'm running, cause most of the focus is on what we are talking about in squad, not the match. I've blown through about 40 mil in ISK in the last 4 days, giving it away to needy mercs, calling vehicles I could care less about recalling, and running proto gear cause I'm unconcerned with trying to find just the right fitting among the 25-odd fittings I created for special purposes/situations (something I used to really enjoy).
The wind has been taken completely out of my sails, and it makes me sad, truly.
