I have proficiency 3 in large railguns. I see no turret rotation improvement over someone who has no proficiency (tested with ratamaq doc) The first video is me rotating by myself. You can time it (18 seconds) and get a no skills alt and time it against mine. We also recorded us using sicas facing each other with both of us finishing a 360 circle at the same time.
We timed a 360 rotation at ~17-18 seconds. With my proficiency, I should rotate a 360 in ~11-12 seconds.
If you don't believe me, go test your time against the video footage. There's no difference.

Only thing I've noticed is it doesn't seem to work on militia turrets. Could be totally wrong on that so don't hold me to it as I'm only going on what I think I remember.

The fact that this has just been discovered worries me greatly.
It would be really nice if one of the big corps could get together and just test out all of the skills and game mechanics to make sure everything's working correctly. I have a feeling they'd discover a lot more issues. |

Who called in the Tanks?
Did you call in one Tank and Ratamaq call in another or did you or a third party call in both? I ask because it may be that the turret proficiency bonus is tied to the vehicle itself rather than the person piloting. If this is the case then calling in 2 tanks from the same person would result in proficiency being equal for both, which would cause what you're seeing here.
Please expand on the method in which you used to test this.
Edit : Small Railgun Turret proficiency works having tested it with other members in the LAV Research channel.

However, I never expected it to actually work. You need Prof lvl 4 to enable Optimization (IIRC).

Please just shut up. The mechanics of a skill are not working as advertised, this has nothing to do with your opinion on whether or not Rail Guns take skill or not.

[Confirmed] The turret proficiency skills seem to apply fine for small turrets. I often use a Python with a side gunner and since I have skilled small missile proficiency to level 2; they say that its very noticeable.
Also :: The vehicle skills does'nt matter who called it in, the skills/stats are always updated to who ever is piloting the HAV, LAV or Derpship.

My gunner/heavy hasn't put a single point into vehicles/upgrades/turrets. Everything comes from the Builder of the tank. Not even the driver as far as I have been able to determine.
This is radically different from the golden measure of EVE where a scrub cannot steal a ship they cannot fly. Which is even more confusing when they are forcing Dust514 to become a very restrictive game much like EVE is. Weird.

There is No Difference between a Militia Rail Gun Turret, a Rail Gun or a Particle Accelerator. They all turn the same 17-18 seconds with Large Rail Gun proficiency at level 3. Hardly see a reason to past 3 as it is needed for Optimization.

On my own experience (haven't clocked it though) the large missile turret proficiency skill seems to be working as intended. Couple of weeks ago with no skill turning the large missile turret was very painful as it is the slowest of the turrets. Nowadays that I have the skill level 3 it turns faster than the Railgun which I don't have the proficiency skill. |

Haha, I didn't see this. This is exactly what I do in a blaster tank when I manage to get close to a rail tank. A lot of rail tankers don't realize it's faster to turn the tank than it is to turn the turret (which will always put a practical limit on turret rotation nerfs - if it ever gets slower to turn my turret than turn my tank, I'll just turn the tank.)
On that note! I hate that the acceleration and turning are on the same stick. It makes it hard for me to pivot in place to get around tight spaces.
Also a few questions!
Are the values for turret rotation in the SDE?
Do turret skills effect turrets on installations?

I had the small missile turret rotation at level 4 but it's still slow. I don't know if the upgrade is registered but I'd posted a feedback a couple of weeks back that this turret upgrade costs a SP BOMB but don't make much if any difference and if CCP would let the heavy dropsuit rotation speed with no limit for whatever reason why put the limit on especially the small turret for the same whatever reason. (I surmise CCP removed the rotation speed limit on heavy dropsuits to let the dropsuit less clunky and funner to play and I approve.) Now if it's true the upgrade is not registered, that'd explain why it's so slow. Good of the OP for showing the before and after timings. CCP should look at the small turret as well as the large turret. |
