Problem: - Equipment spamming and (possibly related) game lag.
Suggestions: 1. Limit ACTIVE equipment use by type - maybe 1 each for Standard suits, 2 each for Advanced and 3 each for Proto. For example, an Advanced Logi suit could only ever have 2 Drop Uplinks and 2 Nanohives (of any combined vesions) ACTIVE at one time, although they could actually carry more (maybe 3 each). If they dropped a third piece of equipment from that family the first one pops, regardless of whether it was the same model or not. 2. Allow all equipment to be refilled at Supply Depots. (Vehicles can reload, why not Infantry?)
Results: - Infantry (Logis) can continue supporting their teams without worrying about running out of equipment or needing to change suits to reload equipment. - Selfish WP farming is reduced. - Lag is reduced.

I suggested something similar in my thread where I went over the math of how much equipment you could have active in a game.
Besides lag reduction benefits, implementing the idea would encourage tactical placement of equipment instead of overwhelming your opponent with the stupid amount of equipment your allowed to have active.

But I digress, this is not the right place to discuss that topic.

I personally like the idea of giving suits a set "bandwidth" and have each piece of active equipment you currently have require a certain amount. Deploy a bunch of hives and uplinks and switch to a non logi suit with not enough bandwidth, your equipment stops working. |

Point 1 Ignores the problem that as long as support-stuff is passive deployment of equipment it's going to be spammed and/or boring, useless.
Point 2 is stupid as only the 'not changing suits' will apply compared with current mechanics. You are still useless if you have to travel around the whole map to restock (you know that's why you want logis with nanohives) all the time. Sometimes you just want to switch suits and/or change equipment sets anyway. As far as I'm aware...infantry can reload their ammo aswell just like vehicles...infantry just can't 'recall and switch suits' in the middle of the map with no supply sepot around.
Selfish WP farming? You still have a choice to spawn on a uplink or not, hives need to be on a good spot to be really adressed as WP farming and as you don't get points for using it yourself....it can Hardly be called selfish., the reptool (the easiest way to farm WP nowadays) isn't spammable....
Nice try though. |

Great Idea. Only exception militia equipment, let the new players earn some WP. You all know a militia AR can't do nothing. It expires fast anyway. |

#1Posted: 2014.04.08 02:10 | Report | Edited by: Odigos Ellinas Making this changes:
Reduce max deployable to 1
Give more Health-points to equipment increasing by meta level
Make it that equipment can be hacked
No equipment slots for Assaults-Heavies-Sentinels-Commandos suites
One equipment slot for Light-Scout-Medium suites
4 equipment slots for Logistic suites
Will give us this results:
Reduce the number of equipment in the battlefield and make it more important to deploy it smarter and defend it.
The logic can have his role back after the equipment nerf.
Players without equipment slot can hack enemy equipment and take WP for the hacking and if a team member uses them.
New players in Starter fits and Medium suites can get a role as semi logi to earn WP.

Thank you for including my suggestion but I would like to point out, just like I did here, that I don't support most of what is being discussed in this thread and think the majority of other massive nerfs that have been suggested here (don't even get me started on the max 1 deployable "idea") are short sighted and are solving the wrong problem.
Let me go find the link to much more reasoned solution that keeps logistics viable and encourages specialization instead of causing what few dedicated logis that are still left from ragequitting en masse....

EhGǪ couldnGÇÖt find a link I was satisfied with, looks like I revised the idea more times than I thought. Anyway, here is one way to potentially limit the use of equipment without finishing off the logistics class. I donGÇÖt support mindless equipment spam but a more nuanced approach is needed.
Uplink (or nanohive) proficiency skill ItGÇÖs either a new skill off the uplink deployment skill (unlocked at level 2 or 3) or a new passive bonus with the existing uplink skill. I favor making it a new skill with a low modifier, but whatever. I prefer this idea to the proposal of making it tied to suit tier, that would just encourage protostomping and hurt poorer players.
What the skill does: Increases the total number of pieces of that equipment you can deploy at once.
Specifically (exact numbers could obviously be tweaked):
Proficiency 0: You can have 1 of them deployed (maybe 2 if you unlocked the skill at uplink deployment 3) Prof 1-2: 1 additional uplink per level Prof 3: 1+1 bonus, so now you can deploy 5 total. Prof 4: +1 again Prof 5: 1+1, and now you can deploy 8.
8 may sound like a lot, but remember, anyone can do that now simply by skilling drop uplinks to ADV. We are also talking an investment of an additional million+ SP to be able to do it.
I want to reward specialization GÇô dedicated logiGÇÖs can still do their thing, but any scrub canGÇÖt easily just make a WP farming suit to spawn in with and spam STD/militia uplinks before calling in a tank or hitting a supply depot to switch suits and show off their l33t brick tanked scout skills.

1. Decay timers. All deployable equipment should have a set time before they are destroyed. 1min 30secs for hives and REs. Uplinks should be longer, from 2-3 mins, and proximity mins3-5mins. Have them start off with lower timers, but add skills to increase them to these higher timers. Perhaps just add the timer increase to the equipment unlock skill itself.
2. Switching suits at supply depot or at death destroys all equipmet placed by the player. Supply depot should also refill players equipment,. If not, using the supply depot to pick the same suit should not destroy players already placed equipment.

A idea from ADAM-OF-EVE
ADAM-OF-EVE wrote:we need the remaining pieces of logi equipment to become active rather than deployable.
scanner, active rep tool, active , tells you who needs healing
so why can't we make hives and uplinks active
players brings out a nanohive, it shows an ammo bar for all players in range showing if they need ammo. if they do you turn on the hive and fill them up. when they are filled you move on taking your hive with you.
the same would go for uplinks. someone needs a spawn in, you turn on your uplink and they spawn in on you. no more spawn killing, no uplinks in places they can't be killed. brings a new role to scouts sneaking into enemy bases and letting players spawn in on them without the enemy knowing.
there is reason then to make them never deplete like repair tools and scanners. this in turn would bring down logi fit costs and remove every piece of spam in the game
THIS!
AND
Increase Flux grenade magazine to 3.
Make Plasma cannon have huge blast radius, but affect shields/equipment only (like flux).
Make "emp" style remote explosive, destroys drops and decloaks for x seconds in blast radius. (1/equipment slot)
If deployed, drops should be hackable, giving you the item @ the end of battle.
Equipment spam is only a problem when the players do nothing to eliminate the spam, or encourage its use. 1 well placed flux grenade can fix the problem. (although I DO get the issue with lag issues, which can be caused by pretty much any type of spam)
Give DUST514 some direction.

If you increase one grenade you have to increase them all for the balance (Flux work against Shield HAVs and Shield Heavies as well)
There is a statement from CCP that the Plasma cannon is supposed to be a AV weapon. ( https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=133585&find=unread ) |

Alright.....if we're on the balancing range, i get that nades were reduce in capacity to eliminate spam, however, functionality of the nades should be added to make up for limits of the item (lets face it, equipment spam has made up for the reduction in nades, annoyingly so). I understand that the servers have limits, HOWEVER, by removing the AV nade limit of 3, they severely impacted AV suits from being functional (not to mention the current bugs with forge and plasma cannon). So I'll give you that on the nades, but what of the other ideas I suggested?
Give DUST514 some direction.

Giving logi suits a reduction in cpu pg on hives uplinks rep tool injectors, exclude remotes and cloak I guess and Increase the cpu pg cost
Like the cloak and scouts 75% reduction, other suits would need to sacrifice if they want to play logi roll on a different suit.
Thus eliminating alot of the other suggestions (no offence), and restoring logi suits to thhe glory they deserve.

You are not really interested in having Logi players on the battlefield are you? I would rather have logi bros go 0/2/10 and 20,000 wp than see your idea in action especially after a match I played last night where the enemy team destroyed both supply depots and even with the current ability to equipment spam, no one was doing it.
