It will only be good if you can live long enough to fire the 4th round. Currently it doesn't matter about the clipsize of the MD. Everything will kill you before you can empty the clip as of right now. A larger clip isn't going to make the weapon better. You also will only have 2 clips to work with in your entire pool.

Its almost a 200% increase in magazine size, I think a ammo reserve or splash radius bonus would have been a safer bonus balance-wise.

The minmatar bonus is the most stupid of the bunch!
It improves nade spam without helping the weapons weaknesses (low alpha damage). The Min Assault will be the suit of the coward roof spammer... ridiculous.
I'd rather give the suit a DIRECT Hit bonus for explosive Minmatar weapons. This would make the Flaylock decent again, and it would give skilled MD users a good alpha bonus to win those fights against the rifle users. but it wouldn't help the spamming crowd, since SPLASH damage would stay the same!
As it is right now, the only positive is the CR bonus, since that weapon desperately needed a clip buff!

Still is only going to be usable in bursts, not sustained battlefield presence. With hives being reduced, the assault wielder will easily suck one down after one clip. 2 hives average per MD user means you will have about 3 maybe 4 engagements until the weapon is mostly unusable. I personally believe based off the dps, every weapon should have enough ammo to kill the same amount of enemies before ammo is depleted. This would mean buffs to some ammo pools, nerfs to other. Id say 8-10 for light weapons, and half that for sidearms.

Though I like more damage to the base MD's, I still think the increase in clip size is too much for the explosives.
Mind I'm using the MD a lot (exclusively until the CR came out) but I think the reload after 6-8 rounds gives the opponent room to breath and counter attac a MD user. If you take that out the MD will be op, and the new fit of the month.
I DON'T WANT THAT
As the most people in game, I think Grenades are fun, but spam is not.
I would prefer more direct damage, and leaving the splash as is to be honest. The best MD right now is the Breach. You have to aim, you can't spam it, the only thing needed for that one would be increased fire rate and an 8 round clip (but not more).

now seriously, this will only be on a minmatar suit and all minmatar suits have ~15% less EHP for ~7% speed advantage. those 7% speed advantage is marginal at best and a speed mod on any other suit evens it out but they will still have in total more EHP than the minmatar suit. |

AA isn't being disabled by the MD rounds, and MD DPS isn't enough for this to matter. Rifles will still melt before you get the clip off, even after because of low DPS compared to stacked proto suits.
In 1.8, one suit class will be virtually unaffected by the weapon, multiple others will have an advantage against the MD even with this damage buff. Honestly this buff is long overdue, otherwise there would be no reason to use the weapon in 1.8. |

While the mass driver clip size bonus is nice I'm really concerned about overall ammunition capacity for the mass driver, because if you've got 11 shots in clip and 18 total ammo... Well you're going to have some issues. Will the minmatar clip size bonuses also increase total ammo carried appropriately? |

That's becuase it was cut in half about a month after it was introduce, it's been toned down. |

I think everyone should be concerned with running out of ammo rather than rejoicing over larger clip sizes.
Like for instance the mass driver, I have always found 6 rounds in a clip to be a decent amount, but 18 rounds total is just pitiful and makes nanohives a necessity. Even 23 with ammo capacity skill maxed out isn't a ton. but adding 5 more on top of that gets is to 28, which is a pretty respectable number.
Of course, CCP does change it to ammo capacity, they should change the bonus to percentage based. 25% of 23 is still 5 rounds (for the vanilla mass driver) but 25% of 32 (the assault mass driver) is an additional 8 rounds of ammo, bringing it to 40 rounds carried.
Same deal with the flaylock, it will make it so you have at least a decent amount on hand between nano hives, but I think 8 rounds per clip of flaylock might be pushing it.
While there is no better place to be wealthy than the Gallente Federation, there is no hell worse for the poor either.

I would like to know what the base stats are for the Breach mass driver?
The BMD is what i would like to call the minmatar's AV weapon and with the ciip and direct damage buff i could see it taking out lav, tanks, and low flying dropships. However the base damage has to be in the 400-500 base direct (not splash) and given the range, travel time, arc etc.

absolutely not!
MD should not be easy hit mode. The splash area is big enough on all MDs period. If you can't hit the broadside of a barn with it I suggest you learn how to aim! |

Trololol. If you're in Flux Range, you're being melted by Rifle users in proto suits. Needing 2 weapons to do a worse job than a person with a Rifle doesn't scream OP at all. Please take into account the fact that multiple suits are getting a buff against the MD, one suit class will be virtually immune to the weapon, and the MD is already bad against proto suits. |

They're nerfing everything else and then buffing LR and MD. You can go as far back as literally the last patch to see how well buffing UP stuff/nerfing OP stuff. Enjoying Tanks 514? I know I'm not. More than half the game used MD before AA came to town at its current stats, and it was OP then. Now it will be even more powerful, and one suit will be able to spam it for twice as long before reloading while another will get a 10% damage buff to it.
Yes, I'm worried, because I have played this game forever and know what's about to happen.

And? Aim Assist will always keep your aim at least in the ballpark, and hit detection has been greatly improved since 1.4.
Heavies are immune to the weapon Assaults and Commandos resist the weapon Nanohive nerf makes it hard to keep the weapon resupplied
You can't tell me that the MD is worth using in 1.8 if it didn't get a buff combined with the above changes. If the MD doesn't provide the threat of actually being able to kill proto suits over time, then it fails at it's job as an area deny/breach tool. You act like the weapon is 2-shotting 1.8 Heavies, it will still have bad to outright terrible match-ups against dropsuit classes and maps.
Cosgar was right when he said the MD will be doing it's job when people complain about the weapon. |

The RoF is so slow that you would require a splash of over 250 to have a chance in a 1v1. It's still going to be used from behind the line or its user will die quickly.
I still plan on dumping it if we get a weapons respec. It's just not good enough to carry as a main weapon. |

I think the idea is that it will function as suppression / area denial and if you get into a head on fight with anyone you can always whip out a proto smg (yay fitting cost reductions!) with 100 rounds in its magazine and blast them to pieces with that.
Once again my only concern is that the mass driver total ammo carried needs to go up to say 36 base and +5% per ammo skill level. |

Please take into account the fact that multiple suits are getting a buff against the MD, one suit class will be virtually immune to the weapon, and the MD is already bad against proto suits.
No i'm not melted at all i laugh at proto suits. Anyone that know how to uses this weapon will become terribly a beast. If you rush ennemies with it well you're stupid.

Actually the MD is totally OP against dropsuits it WAS NEVER FIXED. I don't care about others weapons i care about the fact the TTK is too low. I care about the fact with these numbers i acutally can OS 75% of suits with my Proficiency 5 and 1/2 enhanced damager. I care about a weapon that can 250 damage in splash and can be spammed 11 time. I care about a TTK so low that makes me play BF because it's the same but BF is technically better and because fitting in Dust has become USELESS.
You don't fix op weapons (MD) briging even more OP weapons. (rifles) You can't fix these Op weapons (Rifles) and then buff the old OP weapons (MD) This just DON'T WORK. With this Logic in 3 months EVERY WEAPON CAN INSTANT KILL. |

I'm not sure about this whole thing yet. I really don't want MD to be FOTM again. However, I wonder if the fact that this bonus will only be for the weakest assault suit in the game is enough to balance it out. I like it on paper but it has the potential to go very badly in game.
The general direct/splash damage buff I like though. Keep that.

Also, the new Direct/Splash damage is of a STD Mass Driver so it's like the old chromosome PRO stats with the 10% damage compensation from Uprising launch... new PRO stats will come with another 10% damage buff (159.5 dmg). Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to purchase a planet sized cemetery.

Comparing DPS values of rifles and high alpha weapons like the MD is at least strange. The MD has other advantages than DPS the Direct damage is enough to OHK most cheaper scouts and if you fire into a crowd of people the DPS can be really high.
And one thing to consider is the abilitry to spam explosive weapons those should never be spammable. Grenade spam is already really bad but this will be even worse.

what days are you remembering? I only remember days when I saw at most 3 per match and most of those were me and one other corp mate running two of them. not too mention I always loved fighting MDs either they got me in a bad situation where an AR would have killed me faster or I killed them.

Nah seriously the purpose is to increase TTK. NO WEAPONS should have a damage buff. Nerf Rifles and SMG. And the "buff" to underdog weapons must be something else than "damage" or "dps" Don't forget MD was totally OP before rifles and was NEVER FIXED.
MD => Add more ammo capacity. Laser Rifle => Change the range. an "optimal range" of 20 meters and a drop-off everywhere else at 10% damage is stupid.

hmmm did squads start to realize how much MD scale when used in hoards or with a logi back man?? still if they are not syncing their shots you just run up to them and insta die them.
really MD were never OP, but ammo capacity would be good but again only with a rifle nerf, but I would rather see that applied by nerfing bullet mag thats what made rifles OP as a mother. |

Yes it is strange but its the point, the MD is meant to be comparable as a Short Range Breaching weapons, it does not do that at the moment, because the TTK for the MD is SO High, yes the MD has other advantages because it's a niche weapon.
SPAM is a word thrown around a lot on here, it means to send the same message (often pointless) to many people, but I'll assume you mean the rapid overuse of explosives. So I will ask you a series of questions. Is 1 a Second really Spam?
Would you be suppressed if the ROF was less?
Would the Mass Driver be capable of its job, excludimg the breach, if the ROF was reduced. The answer to all 3 is no.

MD was never FOTM. Never.
During all of Dust's history, the AR has been the weapon of choice by a large factor - outnumbering the combined use of 10 weapons. Yes, those 10 weapons that AR users alone outnumbered included the MD.
Dust is still AR 514 it's just that we have a couple of more ARs. The TTK still reflects this. The game designers desperately need to realize that generalists weapons need to not exist in favor of strong niche weapons only.
Hitscan shooters are, by definition, weaksauce. |
