I played with having AA on and off and there is NO difference in my aiming. Aiming in both cases was the same, difficult and near impossible to stay on target for more than a few shots. I've never seen the proclaimed magnetism and aimbot people QQ about. I actually think AA was toned down too much! I actually think that it needs to be toned back up a little.

What weapon are you using?
For certain items like the HMG Aim Assist does more harm then good.
If Aim Assist was nerfed across the board though then I am a bit happy.

Same here. It feels nonexistent, but I don't really care much. I just happen to do worse at close combat with an automatic weapon.
If it actually did what it's supposed to, and not becoming an aim bot, I'd be okay with that. |

There was quite a bit of friction in chrome, So when you moved your aim in the area over the enemy the movement would become more finer and precise.
Then a mild LDS centering,, if in a sweet spot area when looking down the sights, it would move closer to the target then where your hipfire reticule was, but never directly on your target unless you where only slightly off.
This wasn't an active aim assist setting everyone had it, and the LDS centering if I recall right, even then mouse had. |

Look at the crosshair's they aren't even lit up. Almost everyone has been experiencing this and talking about bullets "Homing", "Following" "Bullet Magnetism" "Lag? Lulz "
This isn't something made up and has been replicated by several people, aswell as felt by people running for their life to people that are surprised they killed the target behind a box.
But "Lag" explains away everything.

I don't understand how people cant notice the aimbot at work... It latches onto people who strafe and leap around... If anything you'd should be notice the difference between in being and off, cause alot of the time aimbot will handle what should be an action requiring the use of both sticks... like, how cant you notice something like that?

Its more like in a testing environment it doesn't work at all on my client.
Hands off controller hostile runs front of cross within good range, no reaction
Hands off controller hostile jumps front of cross and gets killed mid air, cross locks on and follows about half way of the trip back down.
Hands off the controller my own clone bleeding out, cross tracks everyone.
Hands off the controller over near drop uplink, cross tracks as soon as a person spawns (but is still invisible)
Hands off controller after drop uplink tracking the spawning person the cross does not track.
Reinstall did not fix.
The only thing confirmed working on my end is bullet magnetism but that works with aa turned on or off but its not that bad.

I know exactly about this type of junk. I jumped up and down off a ledge in a match today and still got killed even though I was down over the ledge by the guy behind me. I'd love AA to disappear.

You should feel disappointed with the fix they came up with for the problems with the aiming controls that happened as a RESULT of CCP Wolfman throwing out the Aiming system in Chromosome to bring us the still very Challenged system of Uprising.
Aiming itself can be fixed without having to install a program setting to curve bullets in the air to hit targets, and to have an aiming setting that actively tracks targets for you.
Hit detection is another example, We don't even have proper hitboxes setup on Mercenary's where hitting someone in the leg or chest or arm is a different damage value. Or even accuracy ratings for mercenaries.
These are core fundamental systems to building a shooter usually something everyone talks about be it the noobie explaining the game to one of his buddies or the avid game reviewer. Controls, Aiming feel, Hit detection....
After 10 months of trying to still get those three very vital parts of a FPS right or even feeling half decent and making sense... we are still at the same spot of them being a problem and AA being a horrible solution for DUST 514.

I'll add a bit more. Having played many FPS games over the years, from James Bond games, Star Wars Battlefront, to the Metroid series, Borderlands, to COD, I've played with different types of AA and also with none. Not ever have I seen an AA as pathetic as it is in this game. By pathetic I don't mean poor in performance, I mean as totally unnecessary and a crutch for poor players. The AA I've always been used to is that when you're extremely close to a target with your crosshairs, the computer will "pull" them to lock immediately onto the target. However, if the target made an extreme move to the right, left or jumped, YOU had to readjust it yourself. The bullets didn't automatically or magically "conform" to the target's new location and it certainly didn't go AROUND or even in some cases as we've seen in DUST, THROUGH WALLS/OBSTACLES. It needs to go, plain and simple. I guess for new players, if you can't even have somewhat of an aiming ability to begin with, what are you even doing in a game like this in the first place?

To illustrate my point look at the HMG footage he gives, the crosshair only lights up when the target is exactly in the middle of the crosshair, even when he is still clearly in the circle he doesn't light up.
Bullet magnetism doesn't happen, that would require the trajectory of the hitscan function to be changed, which can't be done. Or it requires CCP incorporating a function or method inside the orginal random dispersion method that makes the dispersion non-random.While not impossible its a complicated function that wouldn't be worth CCP's time to implement.
Yes it can be explained with lag very easily, if the hit box is warped due to a large ping or jitter then you can APPEAR to be hitting them around corners, when in actual fact you are hitting the position they were in and where the battleserver still believes the hit box to be.
It is PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE to curve a hitscan round a corner.

I knew it was going to be hard to hit a scout and a medium suit was going to be harder to hit then a heavy. movement and fast suit classes is what attracted me to this game not what has happened it is terrible and has made it very un rewarding in killing anyone. only thing that satisfies me these days is repairing and TRYING very hard to keep people alive while AA eats them up.

I actually decided to learn how to hit people with the tiny dot while ADS with the CR. It's not all that difficult if people actually would do it, but that would probably be too difficult for the scrubs. They might actually have to use the ADS function for something else besides extreme range.

I found aiming was easier without AA. I feel like I have more freedom to aim instead of taking on a target with a game generated aim helper pulling me to that target. Close quarters seems easier without it (if you don't spray and pray) but longer shots could take too long to get on target

No I shouldn't. I do find it hilarious at one point folks were complaining about the AA, when there wasn't even any AA.
I do find it hilarious that people say the bullets are curving to the targets. I do find it hilarious that numerous videos show that the AA is minimal.
Those "core fundamental systems" haven't been perfect in plenty of FPS titles, yet you guys find enough argument to constantly whine moan and ***** about this stuff DAILY
AA is not a horrible solution for Dust. If you so called "eliters" keep trying to make this game "elite only" you guys are going to downright destroy this game and be left to your own circle jerks, which won't last long.
All this elitism talks are just down right annoying and self centered.

I as a scout have died plenty of times ducking around a corner. Far in excess of what lag would indicate.
Jump behind a solid wall and still die. Medium tanked suits probably would notice the extra 1 or 2 hundred damage as they duck ( if they bother). But it is yet another reason along with TDK why shield tanking with the plan of ducking and regenerating is second class to straight eHP maxing. Even if you do duck around the corner your armour is going to be popped open.

No, majority of the times it just won't work. I've noticed that you have some more magnetism with CR (not the assault one)
I'm not a fan of AA, but I think it is necessary with the actual crappy controller sensitivity and responsiveness, I mean, why is our 100 % a 40 - 50 % of others fps? Moreover, there's a huge deadzone in the center of the analog sticks, making aiming really unprecise.

Yes the dead zone isn't helpful at the best of times, while I see your gripe about sensitivity, imagine a heavy suit with +10 COD Sensitivity. Other sensitivities wouldn't work on this game.
I'll agree with Aim Assisst sometimes feeling like it doesn't work, some days my brother hits almost as well as me, other days he might as well fire at the sky. Personally once again I think it is related to yohr connection. I just don't believe the shooting round corners is AA related.

Bullets curving through walls is unrelated to AA. It's the difference between client-side and server-side hit detection.
I want to see TTK get fixed, but removing AA isn't the way to do it.CCP simply needs to nerf the base damage on all racial AR's + SMG.

I laugh every time someone describes their chop strafing as "fun" or "skill based" - it's the same old prone-dive bunny-hop motif employed continually for a marginal improvement in survivability vs n00bs. I do it, but it is OP and it is aesthetically broken, even with the AA.
As for the report that AA has been toned down, it has. I have watched all of the videos and I would describe the new AA as more easily disrupted by user input. When we first saw it, you could aim and it would help. Now, if you're actively trying to aim, there's almost no assistance. Like IWS said, when you die (no input) it tracks everything.
As for the scouts who pop out of cover and die when they think they've already returned to cover, that's lag and ragdoll physics at work. You took too much damage for your tiny frame and you were dead the second you stuck out your head. The cloak will be essential for balance.

Wow!
I read all of the posts here, and you're ALL correct in your reaction to Dust's Aim Assist (well, all except one or two posts on the first page ). I admire the Assist they activated a few months ago.
And from what CCP states, it has NOT BEEN ALTERED ONE BIT since they implemented it... it just psychologically FEELS as if it has, as each one of us "gels" into her/his own aiming habits.
Almost every post here is revealing it! Some here can report that they've lost all detection of it over time, some can swear it must have been reduced without telling us, some who specialize in certain weapons don't have the Aim Assist applying to their gear at all. THAT'S BEAUTIFUL! CCP said they were looking to design a (kind of radical/bold) Assist that helps you only at the parts of aiming where you actually need it, and backs off the moment you try to manhandle it (so prejudicial and advanced players literally "auto-disable" it when they're "forcing" their shots,... while Newberrys and more-sensitive players will continue to feel confidence "I've got auto-aim working for me"... even when secretly they've graduated out of it without even realizing and it's mostly their imagination now).
IF the devs are truthful that the Aim Assist component hasn't been altered at all since it's day-one, then I say it's a remarkable achievement. Discriminates one weapon type from another, easily (almost ridiculously) disabled by the player's own habits during shooting, forces Tiger Woods to lose his swing-advantage JUST ENOUGH that he can't lazily take his golf skills for granted anymore...
I say Aim Assist, GOOD JOB... hope it becomes a test study for other designers and game titles to come. |

The Circle was never an aiming base for heavies for almost 3 months and took several video examples for CCP to acknowledge it,
The Heavy had a singular pixel for their aiming zone. it required more accuracy then even a laser rifle. The tests after the heavy gun revamps show the same results as the AA video now.

So before the HMG was fixed (purely by changing stats) the Aim Assist didn't give bullet magnetism, but now it does? So where exactly did this bullet magnetism get introduced then?
Because the broken HMG had Aim Assist and as you say "bullet magnetism" before it was fixed. Yet the broken video shows absolutely no bullet magnetism no matter how close he gets to that pixel.

No I don't, I engage people with a Mass Driver down narrow corridors, they can chop strafe all they like it doesn't help them. CCP never stated that it was as you say a "strafy tracky" shooter, infact from what I can tell from the recent interview they are trying to get rid of it.

You guys should call it "abusing lag". You don't actually "avoid bullets because your opponent sucks at aiming" but you ( generic ) abuse server-client latency in order to appear where you're not.

If I someone was shooting a machine gun at me, I would not be able to "dodge bullets" by rapidly jumping left and right. I might however try to run in a single direction for cover, hoping their ability to track a moving target while firing isn't good. A "straffy tracky shooter" should focus on the second style of gameplay and not reward the first, which is really just exploiting lag and hit detection (as mentioned above).

Fixing that glitch with hit detection on hit scan weapons, the "blue shield" would of made sense...
Adding magnetic tracking and magnetic bullets that hit even when I'm off target? Jumping? Sprinting? Falling several stories? it seems we have sold the farm for a fancy automated condo that has ruined so much enjoyment and the sense of achievement.
It's left the game play shallow and empty. |
