My new favorite fit:
Advanced Amarr Sentinel 2x Complex Armor Repair Complex Plate Complex Heavy Damage Modifier GÇÿSteelmineGÇÖ Boundless HMG, SMG, Flux Grenade.
The fit I have mostly been running for the last two weeks:
Standard Sentinel (Dren BPO) 2x Militia Armor Repair Militia Shield Extender HMG, Militia SMG, Flux Grenade.
The second suit costs 3810 ISK (6810 ISK without the BPO). I managed to go 29/11 in the cheap suit last night in a Domination match. I have since switched the Militia Shield Extender out for a Militia Damage Modifier (Bumps the price up to 3930 ISK).
If you train in the cheap suit, you will absolutely wreck when you switch to the expensive version. Of course I did not start running the cheap suit for training. I started running it because I was broke.
These fits are what I refer to as Assault Sentinel fits. That is, they play like a Caldari Sentinel, having to take cover part way through the fight to regenerate health before reengaging.

Since Fox posted his, I'll post my commonly used fitting:
Gallente G-I Sentinel Basic Heavy Machine Gun Militia SMG Militia Locus Grenade Militia Damage Mod (sometimes Militia Shield Extender) Militia Armour Rep (sometimes second Militia Plate) Militia Armour Plate (sometimes second Militia Rep)
Total: less that 7000 per suit (I'll edit the exact total in later)
This isn't really a solo suit. The Gallente is very armour reliant, so you want a Logi somewhere close if you want to live longer than the first couple of kills. The second Plate is great if you have a Logi in squad, if not the second Rep is a better choice. This works well for holding a point or sweeping a room, not so well as an Assault Sentinel.
The odd part is that I tend to run this if solo or cut off from the squad.

New cheap fit I've been running:
C-I Sentinel Basic HMG Militia SMG Militia Shield Extender Militia Shield Extender (sometimes swap to basic Recharger or Energiser) Militia Armour Rep Militia Locus Grenade
Cost: 6270 ISK
The cheapest assault fitting I can get without managing to get my hands on a BPO suit. With my HMG skills maxed out, it's lethal up close.

That looks like a good fit Trigger. I only have 2 or 3 matches in a Month where i would die enough to loose ISK with a suit like that. It looks like a money maker, and still quite effective if played well.

Thanks Fox.
Between it and the Gal counterpart, I can make ISK no problems. The maxed out Proficiency skill puts the basic HMG on par with a Proto HMG that lacks Prof skills. Armour and Shields are maxed out too, for full effect. The rest comes down to being aware of what's happening and, if up against a Sentinel with higher tier stuff, getting the drop. Both have taken out Advanced and even Proto, with a little luck.

You find the dual reppers more useful than 2 advanced plates? Interesting, never bothered with dual reppers on my heavy.
Also, +1 for fluxes, much more useful than mil grenades, even though they are cheaper. I never carry anything else on an HMG fitting. Essential for getting the drop advancing heavies. If I know he's coming for me, and I'm around the corner or behind cover, if I have time I cook a flux and try to chuck it at his feet -- lot easier to smoke other heavies, especially Cal, that way.
I'm playing Advanced Cal these days, mostly:
-- Enhanced repper -- Enhanced energizer -- 2 Enhanced Extenders -- MH-82, M209, and fluxes
Not cheap, but I did get my best score ever in 1.5 years of playing last week: 43-0, playing with no support! It was In a public skirm with one squad of no-names, so not much to brag about, but even so, was pretty happy with myself from a performance standpoint, since I didn't go down one time -- a rarity, for me anyway.
I agree about forcing yourself to play a standard fitting -- makes you so much better in the long run. You really discover the limits of your suit, and you adjust your playstyle. Then once you upgrade your suit, but keep playing the same way, you become that much more powerful on the battlefield. I do the same with my logi BPO Sever suit.

I have something similar, but I swapped the Enhanced Rep for a Complex Reactive Plate, one Enhanced Extender for a Complex one and the other Extender for another Energizer. Probably costs more than your fit and is slightly less efficient head-to-head, but it lets me spend less time recharging.

Fox Gaden wrote:As a HMG specialist ( Read my Guide) I support these changes overall. Heat Buildup: I am an experienced HMG user and I donGÇÖt like wasting bullets. Therefor I normally shoot in bursts, and only when I am on target. So I donGÇÖt think I will be effected a great deal from these changes. However, the spray and prey crowd who are always calling for a Nano Hive because they have burned through 1000 rounds, will probably have more trouble with the heat build up. It will make the HMG require more skill to use effectively, which will reduce the number of people using it as easy mode. That is a good thing. Currently I only overheat my Standard HMG when trying to kill a LAV (can we get the +25% damage to vehicles to balance this heat buildup nerf?) and when firing into a crowd of 4 or 5 people huddled together (fish in a barrel) where I can change targets while continuing to fire every time I get a kill without wasting bullets. With the increased heat buildup those overheat situations will happen more often, but they can be managed. Normalizing ranges across all tiers: I am all for this. Sometimes I use Standard HMG and sometimes I use Proto HMG. It will be a lot easier if their range profile is consistent. I wonGÇÖt have muscle memory working against me. Burst HMG changes: These sound interesting. However too many variables are changing for me to comment before testing. Rate of fire, damage per round, and burst delay are all changing, which will all effect how fast heat builds up while trying to kill someone. This could make it OP or UP, so I suggest you test it carefully. I like the reduction in the burst delay. I like to fire in short bursts with the Standard HMG, but with the Burst HMG I would fire a burst and then when I would pull the trigger for the next burst the delay would not be over yet and nothing would happen for a moment. Since I have the slowest trigger speed of anyone I know, this does lead me to believe that the bust delay was too long. I am thinking that the Burst HMG with the new changes might go very well with the Minmitar Sentinel suit play style.

I've never actually used the Burst HMG, so I'll have to test it out. I stick to the standard HMG, I wasn't particularly fond of the Assault since my play style is more up-close and personal than the Assault was designed for.

The Assault HMG works very well on some maps such as Ashland and Line Harvest, but I have just been using the Standard HMG in these maps recently. They have a combination of open areas, with a bit of cover, so either HMG will work. The Assault works really well from the Table Top, or from the top of pipes though.

I imagine the extra range would help from higher up. I just prefer to get up close and personal with my HMG.

Kinda mixed over the Hotfix update. Don't have an issue with the HMG balance but I'm not too fond of what they did to the Sentinel slot layouts. Plus, what the hell happened to the grenades on my fittings?

My feedback so far on Sentinel changes in Hotfix Charli:
Evaluation of the New Burst HMG
[Hotfix Delta] Suggested Sentinel changes
The CPU & PG changes seem to have effected the Minmitar and Caldari Sentinels worse than the Amarr Sentinel.
The grenades were removed so that most of our fits would remain valid. While it has been a pain to have to go back in and add grenades to each of our fits, it would have been even more of a problem if we had logged in, joined a match, and then discovered that we did not have any valid fits.

Lol re: the grenades... I still had 11 fittings that were redlined, even with the removal!
Not complaining about the CPU/PG change though, I think it was necessary. Cal Sentinel is difficult to fit, but it always has been tight, honestly -- I use it primarily to run forge and AV nades, which are PG intensive.
I did save some of my SP, with the expectation that when Chuck hit, most of it would be dropped into CPU/PG enhancements. My Core was already at 5, but Engineering and Electronics were at 2. To get my fits back to a usable state, had to go to 3 on both, but I kept redlining PG... I ended up taking Level 2 into SMG Fitting Optimization (figuring this would be most beneficial short term since I use an SMG on all my fits) which allowed me to edge in under the redline on a lot of my suits.

I can agree that the nerf was needed on Gal Sentinel, since it had way too much CPU and PG, but Cal has always been tighter to fit when running an AV. Never thought I'd have to spec into the Optimizations, but I guess now it's actually worth it for the Forge. Still feels like a waste of a skill for the HMG.
I find it funny that the Gastun's has the lowest PG of any Forge at only 10, putting under even the basic.
I'm gonna have to pump SP into Engineering and Electronics lvl 5 to see if I can't rebuild my fits.

I have Engineering and Electronics at 5 on both of my Sentinels, and they are both 3 or 4 levels into the HMG Optimization. But I was fitting proto mods to Standard suits. Fittings are a lot tighter now, they donGÇÖt seem unreasonable. I definitely have had to downgrade some stuff, but I have still been able to make effective fits.
The exception being the Standard Caldari Sentinel, which I do not believe can be made effective, unless you are running with a Caldari Logi with Rep Hives.

Yeah, I just deleted all my C-1 Sentinel fits, which is a shame. Pretty useless now, unless you run with support, but then, wasn't that the advantage of Cal -- to be able to run solo, or at least a bit more freely? Removing the low pretty much destroyed that ability. I'd they rather stayed 2H/1L.

I am pushing for a 2 HP per second built in passive armor repair for the Caldari Sentinel. (3 minutes for full armor repair.) This would make the Standard Caldari Sentinel viable again, and allow the Advanced and Proto Caldari Sentinels some options as to what to put in their one low slot.

In light of the Cal C-1 nerf, I'm been rocking a pretty fun fit lately on Punch. It's basically a speed turtle fit:
Amarr A/1 Complex Sheild Extender 2 Standard Kin Cats 1 Complex repper
MLR-A Standard Submachine Gun
Costs about 33K ISK. Have the speed to run around with about 1100 eHP, and burst mofos in the face. Fit is fun as hell, I have to say. Anybody doing similar these days?

I've actually come to like the slot swap on the Gallente Proto. Two high slots lets me run a decent AV with good eHP.

Sentinel G/1 MLR-A Burst HMG M209 Assault SMG Locus Grenades
Complex Heavy Damage Mod Enhanced Armour Plate Enhanced Armour Plate Enhanced Armour Rep
Fitting cost: 47,895 ISK
Yeah, not cheap but it's been tearing through clones all afternoon. Took a bit of practice to get used to the 5 burst limit (a 6th will overheat me)
Considering dropping the Damage Mod and SMG to basic and upping the Rep and possibly Plates to Complex for maximum tank.
