Pretty much the same for me Grease. When I was hear I was stuck trying to using my mind over gear to bridge the gap between me and them. I still do that. Jump onto enemies with an SMG and slaying them, bouncing grenades on a wall after baiting a player into walking into it, ducking and shooting the feet of a merc while they're at a Supply Depot, outsmarting the enemy in whatever way I can...
I don't know, I didn't read anything about "Proto Stomp Away" or whatever has everyone's panties twisted but rather don't make it easier on the players since going through the same hardships made you the excellent player you are now.
I sound like an old person but if we make it easier on them, wouldn't the players just become soft and rely on their gear ANYWAY? I promise you that if I didn't get stomped by team work and realized the difference between a Standard fit and a Proto, I wouldn't be the calculating ****** I am today >.>. I'm sure a lot of players wouldn't be. Sure, we need to make the Academy better so it helps players adjusts and have easier to understand instructions but at the core, do you really want to make the battlefield cushiony for newcomers? People will fret until the game is as easy to dominate in as COD or Battlefield and we most certainly don't want that.
This is the truth Roy. For whatever reason people get so mad. I had about 40 players I started playing with when I first came here. The ones that are still around like the game for what it was and is. The ones that were with me in the beginning didn't give a crap about it in the first place. I don't care that they aren't playing this game anymore. I don't want to carry dead weight around in a competitive match.
They can be happy playing something else. I am happy playing here with you guys in this game.

This is why I play FW, so no one is getting stomped by me. I have my Core Skills maxxed, and don't find killing newcomers... over... and over... and over very fun. I like the matches where my enemies have a chance.
That said, I took my knocks, like everyone here, even killed proto heavies with a shotty scout for a while. But it's just rediculous that this is the meta-game: kill newberries in hi-sec with the highest level gear. Ugh. Keep it in lo-sec, please.

The greatest myth about protostomping is that it is the gear that makes the difference when in fact it is the fact that many people (myself included) only run proto when with squads of corp or alliance mates. it is the organized squads that make the difference not the gear so much. Also, most people I know that have proto gear also have their core skills and weapon skills maxed, simply put we are higher level in this game because we have been playing it longer...welcome to an RPG hybrid. The final myth is that proto gear is godly compared to everything else, this is a fallacy in many cases, I know my assault Mk. 0 has about a whole 100 more EHP than my advanced suit and a Ishukone SMG over the advanced assault SMG. Slight advantages but hardly worth all the tears and whining on these forums.
Proto gear is just the easiest excuse why one loses instead of the real culprits of a better team on the other side, better team work (I.E. they're squaded and I wasn't), or actually admitting that (GASP) someone is better at the game than me.
And before anyone gets mad at me I rarely use proto in pubs because I am a cheap S.O.B. and I am average at best at Dust despite being a closed beta vet. Oh and back in closed beta we used to get stomped on by Imperfect squads every other match because it was a tighter knit community with fewer corps etc....

I understand this, but that doesn't mean it's not a problem. Keep proto gear out of pubs, that's all I'm asking. I avoid public matches so that I CAN use proto without feeling guilty, or because of this. Trust me, I'm not crying for myself, but the newcomers. I love RPGs, but a lot of people are used to FPS, not RPG.

Sounds like matchmaking is still broken or we just have so few players now to reliably match players up in a relatively logical way.

When I go solo it's 16 solo vs 2 squads normally but they can't do much about that.

Cool Story Bro! Way to be the problem, GG! Your right, 9 others left. Maybe more, i think retention rate is prolly not even 1%. It happens in EVE too.
But to be perfectly clear, i'd rather see this game die and all our time invested lost to the void than see it softened up. If we can't find enough mercs out of tens of millions of FPS players(yes i know how many PS3s there are) the f*** it, the FPS community is too soft for New Eden.
In Grease Spillett's case the only thin i blame is the matchmaker. But to be honest, the players that have joined and stayed in the last 6 months will always command my highest respect. The ones who join us later when everything is running smooth and the matchmaker can carefully nurture their tender souls will be welcome and appreciated....
But they won't know what it was like, man.

I keep hearing that this is how the game is meant to be....this is New Eden, it's harsh and unforgiving, blah, blah, blah.
Problem is this game doesn't feel anything like New Eden. The meta of this game is equip best gear, max core skills, **** face. Lack of total content, no place to go to train without the threat of protostomp (I'm talking about PvE), and no legitimate in-game tutorials to teach new people= Bad. Oh yeah, and a lack of matchmaking screws **** up as well.

When we've got an integrated market, player contracts and control strategic resources crucial to EVE....that will be the beginning of DUST.
At that point, the vacation is over - things will get rough.

Oh I agree with you, but even if we somehow got all of us who visit the forums on at least a weekly basis to come to a gentlemen's agreement to not run proto in pubs...it would still happen. It would happen because many of the people who play never come to the forums, it would happen because people are generally selfish. It is going to always happen and this game will not be newcomer friendly or grow it's player base significantly until there is PvE. I honestly can not fathom how CCP could call this game released and think they could have success with DUST514 without something to do besides fight pub matches to grind.
And if we think it is bad now, if people have nearly limitless ISK from PC now, imagine what is going to happen to newberries when there is an economic connection to Eve and corporations and the players that belong to it really have limitless ISK, you know, because in EVE there is stuff to do other than PvP.
I have been on and on about PvE since release day and I know I'm a broken record, but I really think it is important to having a healthy Dust ecosystem and last time IWS shared some info on it I believe he said it was back burner or on the shelf as far as development goes and IMHO that is ass backwards thinking from CCP

One thing that would help a lot is to remove OBs from Pub matches and replace it with some other mechanic that isn't as destructive, nearly unavoidable and incredibly, stupidly OP as an automated 'ability' - especially so when WP boosting with Logistics/Equipment is so easy to attain. Seriously. If you're going to have OBs in pubs, it should work the same as FW and PC (referring to the changes in 1.7).
I'd rather see a squad-wide buff given to the squad that attains the 2500 WP, a random one from a selection of potential enhancers that lasts 60 seconds. |

Now it's everywhere and you expect new players to take the ass kicking and thank you for the opportunity? **** You! What happens when the newbies get their own game mode? You are going to whine and cry because your easy kills are gone. Not to mention the fact that most of you use mouse and keyboard with aim assist (yeah I know theres a way) I can't wait for the day when CCP wakes up and starts thinking of ways to draw in the new players and gives them a fighting chance. Proto stomping is your purogotive, but you know that it is hardly fair. I could do the same, I have all the necessary skills and equipment and a rather high lifetime SP coun't. But I don't do it. It's not fun to get completely overwhelmed as a new player. Most new players don't know that the best way to grow is to get in with a corp. So don't sit there and act all high and mighty talking garbage about proto stomping is your right. So you "High KDR guys", your days are numbered. |

If you get a full squad of competent mercs in a squad together running all proto they will save more ISK than running standard while putting up better scores.
Proto may win 1v1s but teamwork can win 6v16s

Then after the match I felt bad that I just made this game horrible for him... Then moments later I realized that was myself 7 months ago. My only thought is keep it up kid you're gonna make it here if you want it. I don't hate proto stompers they are the goal to be and beat. Goodluck guys. New and old its a hard life being a merc in NEW EDEN. Did u invite him to your corp afterwards? We have to take these newberries and guide and nurture them. They are our young and our little future greifers
I had him join my corp in the beggining I just don't think I have the time to sit and manage it most days. I will refer him to you guys.
Next time you see me, bring more friends.

Lowkiie wrote:Alot of you guys on here defending the proto stomp are nothing but selfish cry babies who want to hinder the games growth. I started in closed beta and it was a different time back then as proto wasn't really common.
:/ So you're butt hurt that people are defending "Proto Stomping?" You do realize that the issue isn't with Proto Stomping but Teamwork right? 1v1 A STD has an okay chance against a Proto but when people are using teamwork, even with just three players working together...It's much easier to "stomp". MUCH EASIER. I seen a squad of 4 Teamplayers conquer a battle, not because of Proto but because they just had really great teamwork. I didn't cry, I didn't whine...I knew how it was and tried to adjust to the situation.
Back in my time when I had to constantly work towards Proto...I didn't cry "OMG HE HAS PROTO AND I DON'T STOP USING IT." Nah. I worked with what I had to take them out. All of that has made me into a better player. My KD/R suffered greatly but whatever, it never really matters in a game like Dust, imo.
What's really annoying about your post is that you're pretty emotional when OP ain't even emotional...nostalgic, sure but we can easily see you feel some type of way about what's been said.
The point of it all is not to just have an easy game. A lot of players actually prefer to use lower end gear for a better challenge. The POINT is to actually instill these players with the same type of dedication and rigor that we've gained so that they may become better. In the end, the soldier makes the gear not the other way around. Been a many times I took out a Proto with just a militia rifle...
Edit: >_> I just took out a Proto Logi with a Militia set LITERALLY seconds ago.
