I never get angry at anyone in this game, except for people who proto stomp in pub matches. If you can't kill me in your advanced gear, maybe you're not a good player. That's how I see it. Otherwise, if someone takes initiative I will never get angry with them. I respect that. If I end up in a match where it's just me against a full team, I won't leave. I'm crazy like that.

I mean I could come and kill someone in adv gear but that's boring, why shouldn't I use proto.... I use standard tanks, proto dropsuits and Scr are my luxury.

Okay. That's your right and you've earned it, but que sync with other people in proto then. At least you have somewhat of a challenge. Killing someone in basic or advanced gear and you're in your proto does not make you a good player.

and i do it, and we win, does that make me a great player?
it usually IS me that decides weather my team wins or loses (within reason, im not equiped to solo an entire proto stomp squad)
for the record im primarily a demolitions logi (scanner and loads of remotes)
the most "logi-bro" type of thing i do is provide ammo, i drop it in spots that i can visit to use as well as anyone else whos with me defending or assaulting a base
if i dont defend it, we are probably going to lose it
if i dont attack it, nobody else is going to hack it
if i dont kill that tank... the blueberrys will just keep trying to ride it
if i dont grab a dropship and get the damn snipers / forge gunners off the roof nobody will...
i think thats why you see a prevelence of "logi-slayers" the good players somehow have to fullfill as many roles as possable with a single suit so that they can squeeze out a win in those types of situations. And alot of the time that means letting the blueberrys stay dead and not bothering with a repper since for some reason it fills your team with freshies and they have a grand total of like 150 armor.
the matchmaker seems to think me + team of academy graduates somehow balances out against a 6 man proto squad.
im flattered scotty i really am... but your expectations of me are too damn high

When I say blueberry I mean anyone that is doing nothing. If you are doing something, then we won't have a problem. But for those of you who think it's a good idea to just sit in the redline and snipe along with the rest of the team, I will revive you just so you can get shot again by the enemy sniper. For anyone that I know is only sniping because they have no other choice, I will revive you and block the shots as I repair your health. I did just this the other day. Funny thing is that the enemy sniper joined my squad the following match and said, "Oh. You were the one giving me all the kills." TEAMWORK! (Note sarcasm)
Also, when I call an LAV to go hack the objective and then go back to recall my vehicle and a blueberry is still in it just shooting randomly from my gunner and doesn't get out after 5 minutes of doing nothing... I tell him to get out of my car in the team chat. That was my warning. I drove my car into the redline and watched as it blew up with him in it. I'm a patient person... but if you revert to BSing on my time it will not end well for you. Again, if you are doing something I don't know why you would be offended. Don't take it personally.

I see a some talk about "slayers" in this thread. Their has always been confusion what a slayer is.
A slayer is a role. They are the player who can get kills, who can win 90% of their gunfights. While you're hacking: the slayer covers you. When you're in trouble: the slayer saves you. When the enemy comes for an objective: the slayer defends it. When you need to take an objective: the slayer cleans it off.
Slayers aren't KDR whores. They often get the most kills, but every single kill they got counted towards something. They weren't killing an enemy that wasn't a threat to the battle plan. They were doing their job by killing for their team, while the other roles can work their role.
A slayer may take on the entire team by themselves, and stay alive as long as possible, getting kills: while the rest of his/her team is hacking, planting, moving, etc. When the entire team thinks they have to send the whole team out to kill one guy, or drop an Orbital on him; the slayer did his job.
I am a slayer. I focus on getting the kills my team needs. I don't focus on hacking, driving, planting uplinks, or being a medic. I am part of a machine. My Logi keeps my stocked and alive, and backs me up. My Scout gives me uplinks, hacks, and mosquito kills on the perimeter. My Tanker comes in and backs me up and gives my a ride out. My Pilot drops me into the killzone and takes me back out.

Natalie Herondale wrote:The role in the game that is most focused into war points specifically is the Logi. Slayers are like quarterbacks; they are on the offense. Whereas Logi's are the defense. The quarterback may be the one running out into the field but the defense keeps the quarterback running. Similarly, the logi keeps the slayer alive, allowing him to continue killing without interruption. Touchdown. The enemy MCC is no more.
After each match you are presented with the leaderboards, which is summed up by warpoints. Whoever has the most is at the top, regardless of your k/d.
WARPOINTS
INSTALLATIONS: 50 WP INSTALLATION DESTRUCTION: 100 WP INSTALLATION ASSIST: 25 WP OBJECTIVE: 100 WP OBJECTIVE ASSIST: 50 WP REHACKING: 80 WP TRIAGE: 25 WP PER NANOHIVES/TEAM RESUPPLY: 10 WP PER DROP UPLINKS: 25 PER ACTIVE SCANNING/INTEL KILL ASSIST: 15 WP PER REVIVE/NANITE INJECTOR: 60 WP KILL: 50 WP KILL ASSIST: 25 WP
The amount of warpoints you get may either increase or decrease based on whether or not you have the defend order on you or on a squad mate within your general area or if you have received a lower assist for hacking or whatnot.
The majority of all matches are not decided by clones. They are decided by who has had the objective or the majority of the objectives the longest... doing the most damage to the enemy MCC. The slayer's job is to keep the enemies off the objective, but slayer's cannot do what they do if they are dead. If no one hacks the objective and everyone just sits back and kills, the end result would be that your team loses the match.
The worst enemies you could ever have in this game is your own blueberries or teammates. Without your team to support you, whether you are a slayer or a Logi, you would die repeatedly. Don't even bother respawning. Imagine that it's just you. You have no team. No one will be there to hack the objective for you. No one will be there to keep you alive. You are solely responsible; whether you win or lose is on you. So, before anyone gets all high and mighty about how good they are you better think about who is supporting you, keeping you alive, and giving you the ammunition you need. What are you without your gun? You are dead.
Kills do not get orbitals and you can't kill the objective in order to destroy the MCC.
As far as I am concerned, every role is equally important as the other as long as you are doing your part.
The hard truth to it all is that we live in a world where not everyone does their part. There will be matches where your team is incompetent. You are a slayer, but you will have to hack the objective. I am a Logi, but I will have to kill. Stop bitching about what you have to do, because that's not going to get it done.
What makes a great player in a game is the same as what makes a great player in life. It's not about the cards you are dealt, it's how you play them.
P.S. Don't even get me started on uplinks. If no one drops uplinks, you'd have to walk from ground spawn or the MCC to the objective every time you die. That takes time and time is money. You lose.
Its all about killing the enemy faster then they can respawn, everything else is a bonus ontop, you can hack the point 100 times, you can drop down 50 pieces of equipment, but if you do not have any killing power on the field, everyone is gonna be dead and redlined, period....
On most games where i solo, and i solo about 99.9% of the time it comes down to me, if i don't kill enough reds, my blues are going to be pushed of the point at such a speed, it makes a scout spin.
One moment, you walk trough 10 reds, kill em all, with a bunch of blueberries behind you, sure there might be a great logi in there, but a good player "does" not need a logi to babysit him, they will know and adapt to every changing situation, an average player when hit by a sniper, will look around in a daze of "Where is he ....where ..."and get sniped in the face by the second round...a good player will guess the trajectory and adjust angle to minimise exposure, a good player will know if it came within reach or out of reach without looking....
A good player will close in on a team of 6 and take them out one by one, using their greed for wanting a kill badly againt em, sure sometimes a logi or random blueberry will get inbetween and either save your *ss or he will get you killed by blocking one of your escape routes that you had planned before engaging.
then 30 seconds after you leave the point all secured up with at least 10 friendles on the point, supplies & logies at the ready, you push the enemy back, now if the enemy has gone around, your 10 friendlies are gonna eat the cake and die, leaving you with the WTF ....where did my blueberries go....and most of the time a Slayer went trough your berries and is now taking your point, no amount of logis or will be able to take back the point.
To get back to the "Without your team to support you, whether you are a slayer or a Logi, you would die repeatedly." part, this is a page taken out of the book written by below average players, they NEED a team to survive, they do not have the awereness to see enemies without scanners or 5 more sets of eyes, they also need to outnumber their enemy in order to put the beatdown on there enemies. Catch them solo and they don't even react to incomming fire, they just drop dead, right there and now...their only salvation is hoping a teamate can intervene and save their clone.
When good slayers players team up, the average players THINK they are using awesome teamwork + tactics out of the whazzoo to beat you, but the sad facts is they are laughing, talking about work, talking about some dent they made in their card on their way to work, there are no tactics going on, just raw unfiltered gungame and its litterally just running after something red to kill it....

what would uplinks do for a solo player? WP? Even in death you depend on others. Go out and kill 150 people by yourself. These slayers come in 3 or more. They're not unkillable unless they have friends supporting them. |

Everyone focuses around me, and I focus around everyone. I am part of the machine of war. I am part of the victory. That's one definition of "slayer", and certainly the one I would prefer to use: this is the slayer role.
However, there's another definition which seems more common, certainly in these forums, which is a player with well above average gun game - see Rei Shepard's post as an example. This is about ability rather than choice: this is the slayer player.
When people just use the term "slayer" without differentiating it cause all kinds of fun and confusion.

i win games by manipulating my unwitting teamates to act in a way that suits me :P Other than strategically placing uplinks, what sort of techniques do you use for this?
sometimes team chat works. Have you tried inviting everyone not in a squad? |

I am not saying that one role is more important than the next. What I am saying is that however great of a slayer you are, you will eventually need support. There is no such thing as infinite ammunition on DUST. Proto doesn't do that. Slaying eats up your bullets. You will need ammunition at some point. The supply depot is either not in your vicinity or has been destroyed by an enemy forge gunner. The bottom-line is that one way or the other, you will eventually need what you lack due to your chosen role. A slayer's only objective is to kill and defend by doing so. You will eventually take damage and die. When people rep you, they prolong your inevitable death and keep you going so you can mow through more targets. No matter how good you are at this game you cannot give a lot of damage without taking a lot of damage. So, your argument is invalid. You may be laughing, but it's only after you're dead. Try seeing how many kills you get with 0 ammunition, no team re-supply, and no one to help you fend off an entire team. Let's be realistic, you and your 5 squadmates who are all slayers against a team of 16. You have no Logi's: you have no scans, you have no uplinks, you have no hives, and you have no reps. That is a match that you are going to lose hands down. What are you going to do? Melee the entire team?
P.S. Of course you need people killing on your team, I definitely did not say otherwise.
If you're going to be bad, be bad with a purpose.

Only in Dust would Logi trash mistake placing equipment on a ground, as attributes of a great player. The whole Slayer and Logi relationship is not a two way street. Slayers win games not Logis Fact. Logis just make the process smoother.
This has been proven so many times before that it is embarrassing that this topic is even brought up. or the better players leave the game because their on the losing side. Coming from a proto I don't find this at all surprising.. |
