I'm considering Profile Dampening and I noticeded that a single Complex Dampener, along the passive skill, is enough to avoid ADV Scanners on a Medium Suit.
That's actually pretty good and I'm seriously considering this possiblity.
So the question is: How many Prototype Scanners would I meet on the battlefield? I use the A-45 all the time, I would never pay that much PG and CPU just to detect such a minority of players. But I don't know what other people do.
Is it a good idea, in your opinion?
Thanks!

ppl gotta be stupid to run proto scanners cause adv picks up 95% of all players. so few people in this game have a clue about dampeners, and 98% of the other half just don't care or cant justify the 932k SP investment.

As "the original scanner" I'd say that the A45 is good enough for pub games. It will not detect some of the stealthy scouts (Like Ruozo), but the proto skanner will detect them. This is a minor issue, unless you have a big problem dying to a sneaky scout every 50th game or so.
The big advantage With the proto scanner IMO is the longer tag time, not the better DB detection. The Duvolle Quantum scanner will in theory put them for 25 sec on the minimap, not the theoretical 16 Seconds of the A45. In short, when using the proto scanner you save some Seconds here and there if you want to keep the enemy team constantly lit up. For me, this is a good enough reason to use the proto, at least on proto suits, I probably wouldn't use it on an enhanced suit, I dunno, haven't really used an enhanced suit since, well, can't really remember.

Based on my combat experience as a dedicated scout who specializes in stealth, I would say there are not that many proto scanners out there. Often times the enemy will only need an advanced scanner since most of the players are running in tanked up suits to account for the amazing hit detection and aim assist which makes it really easy to hit any target (thus a low TTK).
CCP, thank you for hotfixing the knives. But please make sure they're at their full potential in 1.7.

Not that many when I am playing Dust, a few corp squads are using the proto scanner in pub matches, not enough to make me put on more dampening modules, more like a hint of dangerous wasp nest close by, I better keep my distance. I could use dampening on my scout but use the message as a warning, this is a serous threat when a squad have the proto scanner available. Usually means skilled players which it is healthy to keep away from.
It will change when more and more are adding dampeners to beat the advanced scanner, that will force squads to use the proto scanner instead. |

in pubs? not very common. I get scanned like 3 times a month in my scout and it's usually from pub stomping morons.

I'm the author of this thread and my experience from a couple of days worth of matches is that there are next to no prototype scanners in public matches.
You should consider that a complex dampener consumes less fitting resources than a prototype scanner does. If you have the support skills to compensate the loss of a low slot with additional complex level mods then you have a sound investment right there. |

I find the A-45 scanner to be more useful than the Duvolle Quantum because you can refresh your scans more quickly, so if you get a bad scan, you don't have as long to wait until you can scan again.
I'd say when scans are being used by the enemy, 90% are Advanced only, 9% are Duvolle Quantums, and 1% are Duvolle Focused. |

Thanks! I run scout at under 28db all the time, so I can't say if there are a lot of proto scanners out there or not. I know i don't run into the 15db scanner very often. This tells me that not many people are specifically looking for the low profile folks and are more often looking for the basic intel.
I applaud your desire to try this out a variation in suit load out and encourage you to do it. I often wonder about the effectiveness of a stealth square with different suits beyond the (extremely effective) scout squad.

Thank you very much to all of you.
From your feedback, it seems to be an interesting idea.
I'm all for mid to long range engagements and tactical approach, so I think I might give up some HP for one Dampener and that it might actually help my playstyle.
I wouldn't do this in PC, of course, not only because of Proto Scanners, but because I'd rather use all my slots to push the objectives. Does anyone run Dampeners in PC with good results?

Noob here. The dampers ability to remove on the passive scan also assists with flanking or giving false intel to the opposition.
I've played hide and seek runnig around many a supply depot and lured enemies into what they thought was a 1:1 fight. It's also great for walking up behind hackers and practicing my militia scrambler pistol skills - scrambled brains anyone?
All my militia outfits have been refitted with at least a militia damper. My mains Caladri has two basic plates and a basic damper... four maybe eight days away from advanced damper. I've even tried for giggles a triple basic damper outfit.

The thing is : GÖª Armor plating is the Flavor of the month (update i must correct..) GÖªGallentes are armor tankers GÖªLogis are simply better than assaults GÖªGal Logi is there by FOTM GÖªGal logi has fitting reduction in equipment.
Being outer heaven and all, if you are considering Dampening for PLANETARY CONQUEST, you will need to be below 28. Either 2 Cx Prof Dampeners on a Med suit or a Basic on on a Lv 5 Scout. (Or 1 Cx one in a lv 3 scout)
In pub matches , Avoiding ADV scanners is almost always enough. But in PC either Run below 28db, Or just Armor tank.

Unless you run a Gk.0 Scout with 4 x Profile Dampeners, The Duvolle Focused Scanner at 15db Can still see you. For 5 secs, but it can.
For anything else, a Scout with Lv5 Dampening only needs 1 Basic profile Dampener to avoid Proto Scanners and Without Prof Dampeners he can still avoid ADV Scanners.

AT level 5 Scout Plus Lv 5 Profile Dampening (PASSIVE) Plus 1 BASIC Prof Dampener
Your Db is 25.8. 25.8< 28 Proto Scan
So any other Profile dampener on a Lv 5 Scout with Lv5 Dampening is a waste of CPU.
Im not sure what you mean with:''wouldnt drastically save cpu to significantly buff my fit, '' But i explained myself better.

It is annoying with the more common use of dampener modules. I am beginning to encounter more and more medium frames that I am unable to pickup on my scouts 50meters passive scan range. I will need to sacrifice a module slot for a precision module, damned dampener modules, stop using them
I even had a mlt medium sneak up on my proto scout and shot me in the back, that was embarrassing and very sneaky. |
