Just because a module isn't as valuable now doesn't mean it has no value, or that it won't be more valuable in future. The correct solution to these issues is to buff the module, not return the SP for the skills to use it.
Some significant items are being removed, and in this case I think a partial SP refund is appropriate. A full respec would be a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

Pretty much this.
I used to think I had the advantage when I played M/KB. Switched to DS3 and holy jeebus. Mouse users stand no chance against aim assist in close-quarter combat.
Mouse is still awesome for sniping/FG, but DS3 is by far the champ when it comes to hitscan weapons. Couple with the fact that mouse controls have seemingly gotten worse every single time they've patched it.

I think we had about 12-14M SP at Uprising deployment.
It's a bit funny to think how those SPs would be unjustly stuck in something as we've gained some 12-18M SP after that time...
When wishing for a respec, I'd suggest people to think how soon you're gonna open the new thing you're aiming for.

When we get the basic content that should've been in ages ago eg more than 1 heavy suit you can use the whole 'the game is always changing' argument ... adding the odd new weapon here or the odd new suit there then yes i'd agree but when we are missing such a huge amount of basic things such as all racial variants of suits/weapons/vehicles then it is only right that people will ask for a respec ..
Really what your saying is that anyone who wanted to say be a caldari heavy with a cal heavy weapon may as well have not played the game for the past year and simply just not play the game until these basic things are added to the game ?
Way to get players into the game lol

Easiest fix would be to give players a stack of 3 respecs, like in eve where you can rewire your starting stats 3 times and then get 1 for free every year.
You can either use those or save them, if they are gone, another one is coming for you next year.
Use at your own risk.

Dear dipshit,
How can I keep up changing with a game that changes core mechanics and weapon stats every month? When they are completely reworking the base stats of any and all modules or equipment, it fundamentally changes the dynamic of the game. They may nerf a playstyle completely (see heavy/scout/callogi/ARs/MassDrivers/ScR/Vehicle/etc...). CCP makes us save for a month or two to spec into a tree, then in 1 week releases notes that say "we are changing the entire tree you specced into, so even though you grind for months, we will nerf it and you can go **** yourself". Simply because you don't want a respec doesn't mean that respecs are not deserved or warranted for 90% of the player base. If you don't want a respec, don't use it. There are a large demographic of players that want/need it.
This game has been absolute **** for two months now. It went from a broken game with great squad and team tactics to a twitch shooter/watered down version of COD. If it has any hopes of redeeming its current player base and bringing back the players that have left, they will issue a respec. Even if the intent is simply injecting some life back into this dying game. |

As more suits, more weapons, more vehicles, more modules more skills are added to Dust are the whiners always going to ***** about wanting a respec. "Whaa my maxed out tank can die now I want a respec. Whaa my AR is outranged by a scrambler I want a respec."

Just because it isn't here doesn't mean we should get a respec. EVE started the same and it worked. Every game with DLC is a game that doesn't have its "core". There haven't been any surprises that make the choices we have unplayable and no one forced you to put SP anywhere. How is the addition of some suit and weapons now any different then in 6 months or a year or two years from now? Wouldn't same argument be valid every time something is released? We have the core and based off of lore is happening about right. No one said that the game has to have for races of heavy or vehicle. If we only have two racial vehicles for the next year then a respec is warranted at any time. How is it good for the game?

If it has any hopes of redeeming its current player base and bringing back the players that have left, they will issue a respec. Even if the intent is simply injecting some life back into this dying game.
They did what we wanted and now we want a respec because they did what we wanted

Tell me how respecs would be good for the game because I am open minded and I will consider anything. Core Material Just because it isn't here doesn't mean we should get a respec. So Gallente Heavies should have just run militia gear for the past year and a half
Wow, the wisdom is just pouring off of you
Those Minmatar pilots must really love flying Gorgons around with no SP invested since they don't know how the Minmatar dropships will look or play, and don't want to spend precious SP on the wrong skills before they're released. And to hell with those Amarr HAV pilots, Sica's all around!!!
Core material released = respec. Release it all together, and you only need one respec
Respecs are definitely coming considering CCP has shown strong interest in monetizing them via SP skillback boosters

This is how I feel about respecs. I might not have that much (19.5 M) but still it's more than enough to have the best, competative gear I could want. Having a respec won't help me use FoTM because it's not that hard to get it in the first place. I bet new players would welcome the thought of having something useful. Dear dipshit, How can I keep up changing with a game that changes core mechanics and weapon stats every month? Exactly. The more CCP gives in to the complaints and demand for respecs the more people will be using the fotm gear, thus making Dust more like COD not less like it. When you have a weapon skilled that is not the fotm you either train for the fotm item or adapt your tactics to counter it. I know my AR can't compete with a laser or scrambler at range. That doesn't mean I kick and scream for a respec. I adapt my AR tactics while training for the scrambler.
But as more and more people do this the scrambler is already becoming dominate on the battlefield. Just look at the kill fee feeds during battle. Scrambled are gaining popularity. Eventually the scrambler will change or something will be added to counter it. Should everyone using the scrambler get a respec then? **** no. Because respecs are bull ****.
For Drapedup: Changes to Dust don't happen overnight. There are Dev blogs, forum posts and discussions about upcoming changes weeks sometimes months in advance. And we ALL know more **** will be added to dust over time. If you are not able to plan your training accordingly, or horde SP for an item coming out that you really want than maybe you are the dipshit. |

We need that one last respec. Anything besides dmg mods and HP buffs is kind of a gimmick. You can't deny it. I don't see how a respec could change anything. however I do agree with the modules part. they need to add cloaking for the scout, give HMG a buff, and a buff in nova knives. then this game will be balanced. we will, at last, be able to equip most modules for the scout and heavy instead of just using plates and dam mods.

Changes also are not announced in a timely fashion, ask the vehical specialist about 1.5. And weeks in advance? That's great considering it can take MONTHS to grind enough SP to max a skill only to find out that skill will become useless in the next patch.
I get it man, you're scared that with a respec other players may smash you. Why is everyone using this argument that people will go into the FOTM? Who ******* cares? The bigger question is WHY IS THERE A FOTM TO BEGIN WITH?!? the answer is because you are playing a game still in BETA! IT is not balanced in any form or fashion. These monthly patches are not tweaking specific things they are more reworkings of entire skills or equip. Until the game has achieved some semblance of balance, then respec every week for all I care. On to your second point, of course adapting gameplay will always be the challenge (or should be of any good RPG) but this is not an RPG! There is no PvE, your decisions matter that week or until the next patch, then who knows whats going to happen! It is an FPS with a ****-grind. They have already altered the core mechanics of this game twice since JULY! In fact they have taken some things COMPLETELY OUT OF THE GAME to re-work the base stats. How can you possibly justify no respec for vehical specialists?
Please tell me how respecs make this more like COD? Justify that statement. COD has no skill tree, limited tactical dynamics, no vehicles, and 60,000,000 players. Dust is supposedly squad based, with vehicles, and 3,000 players.
A respec will not adversely affect anyone's playstyle. It simply allows them to make a more educated distribution of their SP as the game changes its core mechanics. How does that affect how good of a player you are? If Nove Knives become the FOTM, I can guarantee you I won't go into them. WHy? Because a respec doesn't change how good or bad of a player I am. It simply allows me to re-allocate SP into something that CCP has nerfed out of existence. EX: Flaylocks. People went into flaylock because CCP put them into the game WITHOUT testing and when flaylock spam broke the game, CCP decides 'oh we screwed up better nerf them'. How can you possibly blame the player base for using what CCP put into their own game? Why should those players be affected by CCP's poor decision making?
Respecs will save this game, none and watch it die.

Should already be in the game isn't be best way to say it. Many people can argue that jet packs should be in the game by now. They aren't here and because of that we only had a few choices soon there will be more choices. It isn't bad it is just a different way of doing things when compared to other studios or other studios with more experience.

Players will always complain about this being op or that needing a nerf. There will ALWAYS be a FOTM item. Untill a new item replaces it as the new fotm item. As stats change and new gear is added what works today won't always work tomorrow. The only way to prevent a FOTM item is to make everything the same. How boring would that be?
Respecs allow players to instantly use another item or a newly added item thus reducing variety and tactics on the field. If CCP added every dropsuit, item, module, weapon, vehicle and skill all at once. Everyone would gravitate to a few select items and that is all we would ever see. And since nothing new would be added or stats changed the game would become dull and repetitive. New skills, gear and things to train for keeps the game fresh and evolving. Respecs kill that because you don't have to work for anything. |

What I think doesn't matter. For the record, I think it is one of the stupidest things they could have done. My only point is that saying something should have been here isn't a good reason. The game needs content not respecs. I have SP in things I don't want and coming from a person who doesn't get to play as often as I wish, it hurts. I Think I am about to break 13 M. I have 3-4 in stuff I never use and don't really even like. How a player feels is important but falling back on key principles in the game could be even worse.
The small amount of players we have either love the game or are EVEtards and love the game. Giving respecs is going to make people mad like not giving them one is going to. Got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything. Cheesy line but it true and we are on the razors edge of success or failure. They have to make a stand soon or we're all done. I don't really care one way or another if it happens. I want the game to get good and this thread isn't doing that and I don't think that it helps in any way do that.

My only point is that saying something should have been here isn't a good reason. The game needs content not respecs. I have SP in things I don't want and coming from a person who doesn't get to play as often as I wish, it hurts. I Think I am about to break 13 M. Which is why I stand by our right to use our SP the way we wish when all basic material is in front of us.
I only have a couple million SP not where I want it, much of that is in vehicles and will be returned to me in 1.7 with or without a respec. I argue for the principle and little more.

things changed? LOL
DUST has always been based around medium suits + ARs. Uprising just highlights that fact even more.

Even stacking hp is useless right now since lolar still deal over 800 damage in less than a second. And every one uses ars (fotm anyone?)

Thank you for making my point Dust Fiend. The AR has had a good run at being the king. In fact probably too long. The scrambler rifle is slowly taking away some of that market share and we have more guns coming. That means more things to skill into and the AR will lose its dominance on the battle field. Thus giving us more variety. But everyone who has tons of SP in ARs should not get that sp back just because it might not be king anymore. They should be grateful it was so strong for so long and adapt to the changes in Dust. If you want something train for it. Once you use SP it is gone. That is a fundamental basis of dust and eve. SP is easy to spend but hard to get so use it wisely. And don't complain that something new is being added and its not fair. You still have a huge advantage over new players that have to claw their way from the bottom. |

I can roll a fresh alt and use only militia and still troll the majority of people who play this game.
It's not new if it was supposed to be old. Meaning, core material is core material and if you're going to offer all four races, you have to offer all four races most basic equipment. When that happens, a respec will be needed.
I whole heartedly agree that there should be no respec for new content, so long as that new content is new content that wasn't supposed to be old content, aka, core content.

The problem is people will respec Gal Proto, proto hives, proto nades, proto AR and then we will regret that respec :)
But at least it will still be a full match. Better than the 1 versus 12 matches that are beginning to be seen due to dropping player counts.

I specced into Gal Logi and AR after both respecs. I've dealt with the good and the bad with rebalancing and updates, so I put most of my SP into cores. So I hear more weapons are coming, and I've started saving SP. I don't see why anyone other than a vehicle user has an argument for a respec. Eve doesn't give respecs, at least passive SP is free in this game. If there is a respec and everyone jumps onto the Gal Logi it will be flagged as "OP" and then they'll have to nerf it, and then people will cry for another respec.
The Ellecon's come from a long line of Gallente. Tarn chose Peace. Tallen chose war.
